2005-12-14 [the obvious child]: Sorry [sequeena_rae], JK Rowling cannot write. There are literally thousands of really obvious grammatical errors in the HP series, all the storylines since book three are regurgitated, the latest one is so predictable it hurts... they're fun, fair enough, but a great literary mind she really aint. Want really good wizards? Read Tolkien (from whom many of her ideas are actually stolen, furthermore... ie. Aragog/Shelob, Dumbledore/Gandalf etc etc)

2005-12-14 [sequeena_rae]: You may think that but I think she writes very well thank you very much, I love how she keeps you in suspense and holds you on to the edge of your seat, I love her dry sometimes sarcastic humour, I love her use of irony, I love the way she makes every little boy want to be Harry Potter, I love the way she captures your imagination and sends you off into a different world, she makes me cry, laugh and angry and I think she's great.

2005-12-14 [Corazie]: I cried when I read the Wizard Apprentice series, a 50p per book WHSmith own published thing... The writing was terrible, but because of the emotion I cried. Some bad books can make you cry...

2005-12-15 [the obvious child]: Like I said, there's nothing wrong with the books. The stories are passable and she's done well for herself. But when you're an English Lit student and you're reading people like John Webster, William Wordsworth, Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell... sorry to say it, but, real authors, you realise just how little skill a lot of writers, not just Ms Rowling, have nowadays.

2005-12-15 [the obvious child]: You guys want real pain and tragedy? Try The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster. When an author gets to you so much that you feel that crying would be a betrayal of the character, that's awesome writing.

2005-12-16 [the obvious child]: *sigh* If people are studying JK Rowling at degree level anytime in the future, I will be very much surprised. Dickens is hard work I agree... but worth it at the end, his plots are fantastic :) And as for your comment, [~Sparky~], perhaps less defensiveness would be a good idea. I was just commenting on books that make you cry. A problem?
