The reason it seems like only crew members and their friends win contests is because they vote for people like themselves. They vote for the kind of things they like. And, since the crew is basically a clique of giggling, gaggling, knob gargling girls, only the types of poetry, art, and writing these kinds of people like will win. And there's never any change in the crew, because they're the ones in charge of electing new crewbies. They stick with the same old, same old and nothing ever changes. No new opinions are brought to the table. And if you try to call them on it, they get self righteous and accuse you of being a conspiracy theorist or just a troll and completely disregard your opinion, no matter how accurate, realistic, or factual it may be. They just go about acting like arrogant little high schoolers who talk smack about people behind their backs. Here's an example of a typical crew conversation:

Then they wonder why people get fed up with their crap. And they don't seem to realize why they're so hated by people who aren't twelve year old girls. They don't even consider the possibility that people don't like them because they're incredibly sarcastic, unprofessional, and elitist. Anyone who disagrees with them MUST be a troll or have a mental deficiency of some sort! They have to be TROLLOLOLing, because the crew isn't like that at all!

I also disagree with you that everyone who says something with disagree with becomes a troll. Lots of people say things I disagree with (hell, half the time, the rest of the crew say things I disagree with) but there's only a small fraction of those people I think are trolls (and sometimes even those people I think are trolls say stuff that I DO agree with :P).

Not every suggestion ever made is going to be good; you have to be prepared to accept that some of your ideas will get shot down. Loads of my ideas have been shot down before, by other crew members, by Hedda, etc. Not because they didn't want change, but because they genuinely disagreed with that particular idea. :) Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean it's personal - it probably means they're just as passionate about this site as you are, and want it to be as good as possible, and just disagree that your suggestion will help do that. ^^

Everyone on crew (bar Hedda :p) was a regular member at some point, please don't forget that! We all had experience as non crew members of dealing with the crew. :) Our own past experiences of dealing with crew have certainly lead to some changes in how the crew is currently run, too.

However, it was you who took your Enough down, no one told you to, no one forced you to, so I don't see what that has to do with much (restart it, if you'd like - no one's stopping you :3)

You need to be specific in what changes you want! I can't actually act on the line 'we want change in every way', it needs to be specific stuff like 'the badge reward system is too complicated! It needs to be simplified!' And then we can work at doing that. Just break down your 'we want change in everything' to lots of specific points. And feel free to check out Redesigning ET to see potential format redesigns. :)

Some of them take care of necessary archive pages, some of them offer really good, sound advice in the forums, and have lots of past experience, so if someone suggests something, they can offer helpful advice about whether it's been tried before, whether anything similar has been tried before, whether it worked in the past, whether it's been discussed before and what the objections were then, etc. :)

2011-06-10 [windowframe]: Yes. :) In a big restaurant, you don't see the same person seating a couple, taking their order, cooking their order, serving it, serving them drinks, etc. If you had to do that, you'd need a person for every group that came in (maybe even more, if they were a big group). You need far fewer people if you have a bunch of people who only seat arrivals and take their orders, and someone else who only makes the food orders, and someone else who only handles the drink orders. Then everything gets done a lot faster, and more efficiently. :)

as to sometimes the poetry featured not being what you like, you gotta keep in mind that not everyone likes the same stuff, or "gets" the same stuff. think of it in terms of paintings. maybe you only like Cubism, and i only like Impressionism. if they only featured Neo-Classicism we both be pissed all the time, but the people who only liked Neo-Classicism would be thrilled. poetry is sorta like that, subjective. what you like, maybe i don't, and maybe you can't stand what i like, and a 3rd person hates both of our preferences and likes something else. that's why it's important to feature a wide variety of stuff: to make more people happy at least once in a while.

Creating wikis with poor grammar and spelling, going on and on about how the 'crew' needs to change and how you can make it better is essentially an open invitation to be mocked.

That said, I still believe everyone deserves a chance to be heard... they just need to go about it in the appropriate way.



Having a former (or current) crew member acting as an 'ambassador' between the Guards and the regular Elftowners wouldn't be a bad idea.... Someone who can present your ideas in a slightly more professional manner... and someone who's been there to know what is and isn't possible.

So others can see, I shall reiterate:

Sammie explained that she felt we didn't give her fiance a proper chance – we only gave him "tiny chances" instead of a big one. She then explained what a "big chance" would be: to tell him what he was doing wrong, and to ask him to stop.

I explained that we did this, several times, so in fact, by this definition, we gave him several large chances.

She accused us of banning him over "every little mistake"
I explained that we banned him for repeated harassment, and that we do not consider harassment "a tiny mistake" but a very big one. Especially repeat harassment. And I'm sure Sammie, if she were being harassed, would be relieved to know we took such harassment very seriously indeed.

She then asked if we'd ever unban her fiance.

I replied that I couldn't say, but that we certainly wouldn't be unbanning him right now.

I think it's good that other people can see this exchange, and don't consider it an argument, but rather a defence and explanation of how the Guards work. I guess I'll copy it into my diary, though, if you don't want other people to be able to see it.

And so what if you finished it through PM's, that doesn't mean you have to delete the beginning of it. It makes it seem as if you aren't willing to have a discussion here at all. You claimed Silvie was spamming your wiki, when all she was doing was trying to continue the discussion with you. Then you banned her from commenting! Does that really sound like someone eager to discuss things? I'm not so sure this is a "neutral ground for discussion" after all.
