2008-09-07 [Savien]: I have the Lord of The Rings version of Risk.....What a geek! LOL!

2008-09-07 [Calico Tiger]: Do you remember that really really really old board game that was Lord of the Rings? Four players with their playing piece. You each start at opposite ends of the board and work your way through the maze to the ring in the center. First person there gets the ring and had to run back to their starting position. And the others' goal was to land on you, take the ring from you, and head back to their position. I used to love that as a kid!

2008-09-07 [Lord Dog]: Yeah I think there should have been a point a piece for any licensed propriety Special edition game you had
LOTR Risk
Star Wars Monopoly
Either Version of Trivia Pursuit
Star Trek Twister

2008-09-07 [eyes of frost]: This...is a long test....

2008-09-07 [eyes of frost]: ...

2008-09-07 [Mortified Penguin]: I've got the LOTR Risk too... *eats ramen*...

2008-09-08 [Jeccabee]: my boyfriend is 39.84221% geek! *tears of pride* <img:44166_1164145221.gif>

2008-09-08 [Lothuriel]: Uh oh....looks like I got some competition

2008-09-08 [Jeccabee]: eh...she's two whole points below you.

2008-09-08 [Paul Doyle]: Does anyone else here remember that TSR RPG, "Star Frontiers"? That was about as nerdy and dorky as TSR got, in my opinion.

2008-09-08 [Calico Tiger]: Actually, I still can't get over TSR trying to copyright the word "Nazi" x) That was hilarious

2008-09-09 [Child of God]: OMG!!!! [Mortified Penguin] has LOTR Risk?!?!? I looked all over for that when it first came out, but you couldn't get it in the area I lived!!! I've even contacted the manufacturer to see if they have any left/in circulation and they don't! *cries*

2008-09-09 [jaraden]: i used to love playing risk.. the easiest way was to build up and fortify austral aisa, but anyone who does that is a wimp and deserves crushing in the end.. i would always fight for europe, it was freaking impossible, but so much fun... and i believe the area of russia was reffered to as yakutsk, but now that i've typed it, i think that's so wrong, camchaka maybe.. ohh nevermind.. anyhow, i've played most of the versions of risk.. but does anyone remember the ORIGINAL star wars game???? based on 'the new hope'.. ha ha, now who is the geek master!!!

2008-09-09 [Mom]: Anyone remember the Hobbit,Lord of the Rings and Return of the King animated movies. *Owns them* XP

2008-09-09 [Paul Doyle]: Smaug in the movie version of "The Hobbit" (which I got on a cheapo $1 DVD rack, believe it or not), strikes me as having an uncanny resemblance to future Baseball Hall of Famer Randy Johnson of the Arizona Diamondbacks. (And previously, in reverse order, of the New York Yankees/Arizona Diamondbacks again (back when they won the World Series)/Houston Astros/ Seattle Mariners/Montreal Expos.)

Any way you slice it, quite possibly the ugliest non-scary dragon ever. They should have used that awesome Smaug illustrated by the Brothers Hildebrandt.

Anyway, note the faint facial resemblance between the cartoon Smaug, and Randy Johnson. These weren't the exact shots I was thinking of, but I'm too tired right now to take a DVD screenshot closeup of Smaug's face. If you watch enough baseball, you'll know what I mean.

2008-09-09 [Jeccabee]: that is hilarious!

2008-09-09 [Lord Dog]: I got them with two versions of the Lord of the rings, one with the Hobbit style Rankin Bass animations and the other with a rotoscoped psychedelic appearance aslo by Rankin Bass..

2008-09-09 [Yuriona]: Man, I remember watching 'the Hobbit' when I was a kid. It was on one of those big flat discs (no, not a laser disc) before VHS tapes came out. Man that was a looooooooong time ago.....

2008-09-09 [Mom]: I know what you mean Yuri...we owned one of those disc players . The disc was the size of a record album. My parents still own theirs but they gave about 200 disc.

2008-09-09 [Lord Dog]: Laser discs about a 10-14 inch dvd

2008-09-09 [Yuriona]: I know what a laser disc is, a friend of mine made sure to educate me when I got the two mixed up. I just can't remember the name of the other discs.

2008-09-09 [Jeccabee]: I have no idea what you're talking about...with the laser disks and the other type. I came about the world about the time VHS did.

But I have seen the Hobbit and LotR and Return. I've only seen the rotoscoped verson of LotR...which I didnt enjoy all that much. I would love to see the other version!

2008-09-09 [thisfleshatomb]: i'm a geek? o.0

2008-09-09 [Mortified Penguin]: I have those movies too... those things have the gayest songs I've ever heard... *eats ramen*...

2008-09-09 [Yuriona]: I bet you've never watched Barney then. >< Gayest show ever...

2008-09-09 [Lothuriel]: Oh my gosh Yuriona!! I had those on VHS when i was a kid. That reminds me...I'm gonna at something else to me list at remember...

2008-09-09 [jaraden]: i used to love that movie, i remember watching them on sundays with my brother and thinking them absolutly amazing.. now, after seeing it again only last year i realised just how gay it seems, no i mean really camp.. rotoscope asways makes me think of he-man (which is the gayest cartoon around, also one that i used to love as a child). i remember think how frightening the scene was when gollum kills his best friend in the river bank (i guess on the river bank would be more accurate) all in backlite rotoscope, but seeing it again it was quite laughable...
i guess we're jsut spoiled by the big budget moveis these days...

and i see no one remembers the first star wars board game.. i guess i take the prize in the most geekiness in that department..
har har... snort!

2008-09-09 [Mom]: *hums* Where there's a whip *SnaP* There's a way...

2008-09-09 [jaraden]: and does anyone else feel the pain i do when i watch the transformers movie (i DO mean the original), i mean i can hardly sit through the first five minutes without wanting to scream slews fo obsenities at the TV.. they've killed my childhood!!!!!!!!!!!
the new one was passable, but i'm still waiting for some of my most beloved transformers to be featured if they do a sequal (which will probebly suck)...
and what's this about a whip??? YYY-OUCH!!
watch where you point that thing, i bruise easily.. nah, just kidding..
no really, watchit!!!

2008-09-09 [Lothuriel]: Dude....

How can you call yourself a real geek and NOT love the Transformers movie!!

*faints*

2008-09-09 [jaraden]: don't get me wrong, i loved the movie, its a classic, but its that first schene, where five or more autobots get trashed in the first five or so minutes, some of my all time favorite transformers kick it then.. i feel perpetually gutted every time i watch it.. depresses the heck outta me for the rest of the movie.. still love it though.. i watched the entire series when i was a kid fanaticly, and i still catch it WHENEVER its on!!! i hate the new ones though, a totall bastardisation if you ask me.. you want real transformers, go for the originals, a that INCLUDES the scary japanese ones too!!! and by scary i mean tragically sad!!

take summa that for geekidum!!

2008-09-09 [Lothuriel]: *dramatically puts hand to forehead*

I don't even know you anymore!!!

2008-09-10 [jaraden]: i AM a geek... *looks at himself*

well i may not look it.. but i am...
a total comic, cartoon and sci-fi/ fantasy geek...
so there...
*pouts*
i don't need to prove myself to you... hmph
*goes to find his pucket protector*
and if you haven't guessed, i'm not actaully throwing a huff, incase your wondering..

and don't get me started on trnasformers, i used to collect the toys/ action figures.. the original dyecast/ metal ones, not these poncey plastic jobs that break if you breath on them...
i'm a purist,
and if that don't make me a total geek, i don't know waht will!!
so there

2008-09-10 [Lothuriel]: LOL....<img:44166_1164557415.gif>

2008-09-10 [jaraden]: nice, totally diggin teh smiley...
so what did you get in the quiz???

2008-09-10 [Lothuriel]: *holds head up high*

74.75345% - GEEK GOD

2008-09-10 [Yuriona]: I think you've got the masking tape on your glasses a bit tight Loth. LMAO!

2008-09-10 [Paul Doyle]: I agree with Mort regarding the music on the Rankin-Bass version of "The Hobbit". And yes, "Barney" was even worse. Even my son didn't want to watch Barney when he was little . . . good instincts there, m'boy.

2008-09-10 [Kyrinn]: Teletubbies. *runs and hides* Thank GOD my son didnt like to watch it!! XP

2008-09-10 [Lord Dog]: OOba or something take grimace from the old McDonalds commercials and make him the bastard love child of Barney and each teletubby then multiply

2008-09-10 [Lothuriel]: I love Barney!!

2008-09-10 [Yuriona]: I ought to beat you with a foam bat for admitting that Loth! That has to be one of the more demeaning and condescending shows for kids out there. Gah... why do adults think they have to treat kids like idiots just because they're kids??

2008-09-10 [Lothuriel]: ....I got nothin'.....

*runs away*

2008-09-10 [Kyrinn]: LOTH!!! *shocked* Are you running a super high fever there? *gets out the rectal thermometer*

2008-09-10 [Lothuriel]: We are talking about Barney Miller, riiight <img:stuff/sutN.gif>

2008-09-10 [Jeccabee]: HAHA nice cover. :P I remember liking Barney for like a month then it just got old. And they keep adding characters! When will it end?

Oh and Sir they're Boobahs! I got sucked into a show once on a day off...it's hypnotic! I think that show is more for the infant age. I think it's funny that they make fart noises though. *snicker*

2008-09-10 [Lothuriel]: *shivers* I am terrified of those darn things....<img:stuff/daN-gif.gif>

2008-09-10 [Jeccabee]: they are pretty freaky.

2008-09-10 [Paul Doyle]: Rare bootleg treat for all you unabashed nerds, geeks, dorks, hummers and woofies.

Rush, circa 1975 pre-"2112", doing a live version of "The Necromancer", which of course is about LOTR. Never seen it done "live" before (except covers done by other bands, like Dream Theater). . . in almost every era Rush was about as nerdy as all get-out while blowing just about everyone else off the stage. OK, maybe "The Necromancer" wasn't an immortal song, but Rush itself endures.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur9djRTkYP8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4ti83velHU&feature=related

2008-09-12 [jaraden]: i used to absolutely love rush.. and they are canadian if i'm not mistaken.. that would make them both doubly cool and doubly nerdy!!
personal favorite song was 'tom sawyer'... but that might just be me...
nice to hear someone is devling so deep into the unsung heros of rock!!!
nicely done!!!
haven't heard necromancer in ages.. will have to check it out again!!!

2008-09-12 [Paul Doyle]: Caress of Steel is not anywhere near their most popular album, but it's surprisingly good if not on the level of any of their 1976-1982 albums. Pick any Rush era or album (except "Vapor Trails", whose lyrics were intensely personal since Neil Peart lost both his wife and daughter within the span of a few years) and you'll find a lot of incredibly nerdy songs that absolutely kick ass.

Case in Point: 1982's Signals album. The rocking nerdiness runs rampant through "Chemistry", "The Weapon", "Countdown" (about the first space shuttle flight, of all things!, "Digital man" and of course "New World Man". I imagine Carl Sagan back in the day, listening to this stuff in his office, smoking his famous weed and banging his head playing air-guitar, uttering "Billions and billions of stars!" at any point.

2008-09-12 [jaraden]: genius. thats all i can say.. pure genius!!!
loving rush.. too bad i ain't got any of their music anymore.. will have to download some.. immediatly!!!
yYYYAWRRRR!

2008-09-12 [Jeccabee]: [Doormat] copied off me! we got the same score! LOL

2008-09-12 [Mom]: There are alot of shared scores.

2008-09-12 [Jeccabee]: there are? I dont really look that closely at everyones scores...just the 1st two numbers. :P

I still think [nehirwen] has the coolest score!

2008-09-12 [Jeccabee]: LOL I went through and checked every box just to see the results. It said "100% - Liar!"

That's hilarious!

2008-09-12 [Lothuriel]: LOL...yeah, I did that too! Just to see what it would say.

2008-09-12 [nehirwen]: *loves her score as well* <img:stuff/mood-gif.gif>

2008-09-12 [jaraden]: well, i dont know about the rest of you, but i was pleased by my score.. alittle drunk right now so i can't remember it off hand, but it was in teh 20s... i posted it earlier, but couldn't figure out how to put it up on this page.. so that proves i supose how little of a geek i really am... that in itself depresses the heck outta me, but at the same time releaves me to no end...
take some of that you computer literate fools...
WAH HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

2008-09-12 [Lothuriel]: LOL..I am xtremly proud of my score...just not so much with my spelling skills.

2008-09-12 [jaraden]: hey, you and me both there kid!!!
i've got fingures like sausages at teh moment... but i do feel guilty at calling myslef a geek without knowing the basic computers skill required to put my score up..

i know...
i'm a lazy geek...
yeah, that's my excue!!
so there

2008-09-14 [Chimes]: Uh... some of the usernames are broken. O.O;;

2008-09-14 [HardRockAngel]: eek =S
does it have anything to do with me adding my name?

2008-09-14 [Chimes]: I don't know... but I shall report it in the Bug forum. :]

2008-09-14 [HardRockAngel]: Might be the best thing to do =)

2008-09-14 [Mom]: There have been bugs showing up everywhere today...

2008-09-14 [Chimes]: I just did. :]

2008-09-14 [HardRockAngel]: =S
*checks her wikitrail*
Might be that I bring bad luck =P

2008-09-14 [Hedda]: It had to do with <> and the bug I fixed in [523708]. Name-links inside <> don't work anymore. Like <[hedda]> is a broken link.

2008-09-14 [Mom]: Thank You [Hedda] =}

2008-09-18 [Caelypse]: Thank'ee for the invite, [Mom] :D

2008-09-18 [Lothuriel]: it would seem that [MisLuck] has dethroned me, lol!

2008-09-18 [Jeccabee]: AH [Lothuriel] has been knocked off her throne!

2008-09-19 [kay-chan]: When I went to copypasta my answer, I instead pasted part of my comparative vertebrate anatomy notes...

2008-09-19 [Doormat]: ...Bio 204?

Mucus glands: Only present in the weirdest of places.

2008-09-19 [jaraden]: ummmmm.yah.. i have no mucus glands.. was born without them...SNOT!

2008-09-19 [MisLuck]: I'll gladly keep Lothuriel on the throne. ;) Being that high scored isn't flattering! :D

2008-09-19 [Lothuriel]: LOL....

2008-09-20 [kay-chan]: BIOL 430, actually... Monotremata: the all-purpose aperture.

2008-09-21 [Jeccabee]: Biology? O.o *hides under desk*

2008-09-21 [The Red Baron]: (emerges with a dissection set) Did someone say "anatomy"?
I need a volunteer to lie down on this table.

2008-09-21 [Doormat]: Thanks for reminding me that I need to purchase a dissection set soon :P

2008-09-21 [Paul Doyle]: Minor geekery artifact. This is the obverse of an 1875 Japanese Two Sen coin, the "Square Scales" variety. There's nothing special about the coin. Yet behold the geekery, as defined by the quiz we all took:

---It's history in your hands (or, at least, behind a cardboard holder). History buffs are geeks, according to the quiz.
---Japan is instrumental in making geeks cool. Anime, for example. 'Nuff said!
---OK, so Eastern dragons aren't a tenth as geeky as Western dragons, but oh well. Dragons are uber-geeky mythical beasts.
---Numismatics (that is, coin collecting) requires a rather high geekery quotient, especially when it's not money or greed that drives one to collect them. *nasal nebbish voice* "It's History in your hands!"
---Do note this is the "square" variety of this coin. (I have the other variety around here somewhere.) "Square", of course, is 1960s slang for several things including "not with it" or "untrendy".

<img200*0:stuff/11046_Japan1875_TwoSen_SquareScales.jpg>

2008-09-21 [kay-chan]: Doormat: Just got myself a dissection kit with new razor blades. I AM SO EXCITED.

2008-09-22 [Doormat]: I think you may have purchased the emo dissection kit by accident. D:

2008-09-22 [Pyra]: XD

2008-09-22 [Teufelsweib]: it seems that people who expect a high rating on this test get a lower one than expected, and the ones who expect a low rating exactly the opposite... xD

2008-09-22 [TheRogue]: <img300*0:http://elftown.eu/img/drawing/13941_1162913051.jpg> Or One of these..

2008-09-22 [kay-chan]: NUUUUU. Well, maybe. No, NO. It's totally for comparative anatomy and we're gonna CUT US UP SOME CHONDRICHTHYES. And it has pokey-things and a random ruler that I don't know why it's there and scissors and and and... :D :D

2008-09-23 [The Red Baron]: Yes, chondrichthytes, with 7 rows of maxillary teeth and 5 rows of mandibular teeth; with ampullae of Lorenzini lining them, strong enough to sense an electric field of -70mV. Heeheehee. Speaking of neurals; would anyone care for some cephalopods' giant axons?

2008-09-23 [kay-chan]: I've been playing around with their action potentials all day today, but thank you.

2008-09-23 [Yuriona]: No thanks... I only like cephalopods if they are battered and deep fried. XD

2008-09-24 [thisfleshatomb]: ^_^

2008-09-24 [The Red Baron]: Hmmmm, I wonder if I could find a frying pan large enough to fit a Cracken inside.... fried alive of course.

2008-09-24 [Yuriona]: You could check the Guiness book of world records. They might have one large enough for that.

2008-09-24 [The Red Baron]: Hmmmm, could work.

Or! I could saw a Death Star in half and use it for that.

One half to cook the cracken in, the other to cover it and prevent escape....

Hmmmm, Cracken fried in a Death Star.... why not add some Dianogas to the fry-up? I love exotic cuisine.

2008-09-24 [Jeccabee]: sounds more like a Wok...but it does pretty much the same thing. :P
Calamari for the whole galaxy! hehe

2008-09-24 [TheRogue]: DOH! *smacks self*<img:http://seniorjournal.com/images/Symbols/BadNews-BangHead.gif>

2008-09-24 [Jeccabee]: wha?<img:44166_1164469620.gif>

2008-09-24 [Paul Doyle]: Pan-fry the Mon Calamari, and serve up with a decent brew, and maybe a piece of bread just for the heck of it. Oh, and a side salad if you're still hungry. "IT'S A TRAP!"

2008-09-25 [The Red Baron]: I may like sea food, but seriously, cooking the native species of Dac; namely Mon Calamari and Quarren, is not my cup of tea... now Russian Earl Grey, then we're talking lovely tea.

2008-09-25 [jaraden]: i don't know if those mon-calamari would actually taste any good, is it jsut me or did they just look like giant puffy eyed goldfish with arms and liegs??? i'v eaten a gold fish before, and they taste like pooh!!! trust me.. i'd take a death star fried crcken any day.. but don't stimp on the guiness.. or better yet... killkenny!!!!!!
yar!

if we're talking about star wars races most delicious to eat, i'd have to go with teh wookies, they look like they might have some good meat under all that fur...
or gwedo's race, they look tasty, but they might tast like frogs.. which can be quite nice if smothered in a butter sauce...
or what was those tentacle headed guys, one was jaba's assistant, and there were som e hotty dancers of the same ilk.. they might be good to fry up on a giant wok...
hmmmm...
who else..
ewoks are too tiny, it'd be like eating a hamster..
you wuldn't dare try and eat yoda.... taht would be sacralige (spelt wrong)!!!!!!!
there was that hammer head dude in the mos-isley cantina.. shark is sooooo good!
hmmmm who else....
all of a sudden i could go for a sti-fry...
hmmmmmm... food!

2008-09-25 [Paul Doyle]: I think the Mon Calamari are essentially anthropomorphic, sentient crustaceans, while the Quarren are anthro-squid. That being said, it's a wonder the Galactic Empire didn't eat them all into extinction. I wonder if you simply dropped the Mon Calamari into a humongous lobster pot and savor them the same way one would eat a cooked lobster?

Twi'Lek are to be savored and seduced, not eaten ;-)

For the record, I can't stand lobsters. Too expensive, too annoying to eat, and I don't particularly care for lobster meat. Give me boneless chicken or give me, um, Hamburger Helper without the hamburger?

2008-09-25 [Mortified Penguin]: It's a trap!

2008-09-25 [Paul Doyle]: A tasty one, too.

2008-09-25 [kay-chan]: I dun like lobsters/crab, they taste gross to me. Calamari is fine when prepared well, although for a while I wouldn't eat it on the principle that the squid looked very phallic, and octopi are too smart.

2008-09-25 [Kyrinn]: If allowed, I could live on King crab. *drools*

2008-09-25 [Doormat]: Squid: Stuff that can be jammed into the air vent of the burner in a Korean Barbecue Restaurant.

2008-09-25 [~Valkyrie~]: Speaking of Star Wars: My best friend just bought her boyfriend the most amazing shirt when we were at Disneyland last. (keep in mind that her is a little on the short side, and she's just barely shorter)
The front says 'Judge Me By My Size Do You?' and on the back is a picture of Yoda looking up at the 'you have to be at least this tall to ride this ride' sign.
It's amazing! I want that shirt, and I'm not even short (except when compared to my boyfriend and his family :p)!! :p

Sorry, I guess it's a little bit of a 'you have to see it for yourself' type thing.

2008-09-25 [jaraden]: that shirt sounds brilliant.. i want one!!!
seaking of jedis (however you plurallise jedi) is anyone else like me in that when we were growing up, those who saw star wars on video, or in my case at the theatres (and not the remakes in the 90s) who loved teh jedis, wanted to be one so badly but couldn't relate to any.. most of myfriends wanted to be han solo or boba-fet... no one wanted to be luke.. i always wanted to be a jedi but even back then thought luke was a bit of a tool! but when the new films came out (episodes 1-3) i gained a new giddy rspect for the jedis... even if the films weren't considered as great as the origianls (personally i think they do the originals more thn justice, but thats just me) i think the jedis came into their own! go jedis!!!!!!!!!
PS: lobster is sweet, crap is wicked too, so is squid.. but i CANNOT stand shrimp...
YUK!
the mo-calamari were crustations??? really?? i don't see it adn i'm watching return of the jedi NOW.... i still think they look like walking talking gold fish...
hmmmmm

2008-09-25 [Jeccabee]: I have a shirt that says that (Judge Me By My Size Do You?) But it has a sketchy Yoda on the front. Its my 'work' shirt...I wore it to my printmaking classes and got bleach on the front...so now it looks like Yoda is standing on a white floor! LOL I'll have to take a picture of it. Wait...I may already have something...brb

2008-09-25 [Jeccabee]: ok...this is not a great shot of the whole shirt, but you can see Yoda...and it says the line under him.
<img200*0:http://photos-f.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v155/23/9/78200092/n78200092_30593365_3719.jpg>

2008-09-25 [Jeccabee]: and yes...that is a lizard on my hand...he was a visitor to our cabin.

2008-09-25 [jaraden]: sweet, lovin the t-shirt jeccabee... yoda rocks!!!!!!!!

2008-09-25 [kay-chan]: Hehe, nice, I kind of want the shirt. :3

2008-09-25 [Jeccabee]: it's one of my favorite (I dont care what I look like) shirts.

It's large and baggy and has bleach marks...love it I do! <^_^>

2008-09-25 [jaraden]: and why not, if i had a t-shirt with yoda on it i'd cherish it like the freaking holy grail!!!!

nice find!!!

2008-09-25 [Jeccabee]: LOL yeah. I dont even remember where I got it...I've had it for a few years. It's really soft too...it's a thicker t-shirt material so it wears well and it's soft.

2008-09-25 [jaraden]: i had no idea t-shirts could be so complicated.. it must be a chick thing.. personally i cold care less if a t-shirt (or any other article of clothing for that matter) is soft or otherwise....
sighs...

women...

2008-09-25 [kay-chan]: ...because... it feels good? Seriously? Soft versus scratchy/stiff is... complicating matters? Dude, you wear potato sacks, huh. :P

2008-09-26 [jaraden]: yup, as long as it fits, i wear.. never been fusy about what i wear... that's why chicks don't dig me i guess...

who cares....

i do comfortable.. just not soft.. too girly

2008-09-26 [kay-chan]: I do comfy. And I do object to you going "*sigh* WOMEN." XP

2008-09-26 [jaraden]: women are as alien to us men as amibas are to ant-eaters...

2008-09-26 [Kyrinn]: *shouts* WOMEN ARE MONSTERS!! *dramatic voice*

2008-09-26 [Paul Doyle]: Fabulous beasts, those women. Hell, at least they don't mate with us and then bite our male heads off and eat 'em, like your average lovestruck praying mantis couple.

2008-09-26 [Paul Doyle]: By the way, this is one of the single most annoying books I've ever read:

http://www.annarborvineyard.org/ministries/media/pc_mars.jpg

<img300*0:http://www.annarborvineyard.org/ministries/media/pc_mars.jpg>

Strangely, this was required reading when my wife and I went through through pre-marriage classes in the Roman Catholic faith, back in 1996/7. More than anything else, this book is simply a ruse to buy the author's products. I found it interesting, and ironic, how many of the vaguely New Age-y concepts flew directly in the face of Catholic dogma and doctrine.

2008-09-26 [jaraden]: har har har...
you don't say.. i've never considered reading such TWADDLE.. if a dude doesn't know women are strange creatures and to be avoided like some deadly viper, then their dooms are of their own making and deserve no sympathy from me!!!
it would be nice if there were some manuales on women, how they work and what they want (i think most women would say the say of men, but we are simple creatures) but i reckon such a tome would be twice the size in girth then ones standard dictionary and just as teadious to read...

har har

*sighs*

women...

2008-09-26 [Paul Doyle]: How about "Accept me as I am, warts and all---and I will do the same with you?" It really doesn't have to be THAT arcane. In the 11+ years my wife and I have been married, we have been through an awful lot of ups and downs, and by enduring those "downs" we grow stronger together as a couple, and better understand each other through this shared experience. In all those years we haven't referred to it once, and I think it wound up being thrown away. The last time I remember seeing it was one time, years ago, when our old guinea pigs were getting their exercise through "floor time" (racing back and forth across the carpet). They found the book on the carpet and began nibbling away, like it was a lettuce leaf or something similar. When we realized what was happening we simply let the guinea piggies continue nibbling on "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" because it was such a painful read for both of us.

2008-09-26 [jaraden]: best thing for the book i reckon... like i said i would never entertain reading such tripe... for it to be eaten by overgrown rodents is a fitting death for such a book!!!

HEAR HEAR!!!

i wish you and your wife well, but be warned, women are fickle creatures and can turn one you without a moments notice.. be on your guard mate.. *Spoken like the crocidile hunter*

take care and i wish you both well!!

2008-09-26 [Kyrinn]: Actually that was a quote from an anime I watched a while back, the opening line. So now its a family quote. Damn I can quote some anime all day and not get tired. :P

2008-09-26 [Lothuriel]: Wow, my view of love is just that..unconditional. Why would you want to be with someone that you have to have conditions to love them? It just doesn't make any sense. You either love someone or you don't. You either accept them or you don't. *shrugs* But, then that must just be my romantic version of life, huh?

2008-09-26 [jaraden]: don't talk to me about love....

BAH!

2008-09-27 [Kyrinn]: I feel that respect has a strong place in love as well. One should respect the one they love and treat them the same way they would like to be treated. Unconditional love yes, and respect, yes. :)

2008-09-27 [Lothuriel]: Glad to know I'm not alone!<img:stuff/cheshmak.gif>

2008-09-27 [The Red Baron]: Love? That's one of history's biggest lies; it's the lie of the land as the land lies.

2008-09-27 [Teufelsweib]: nah, it's just a malfunction in the right half of your brain, not a lie :P

2008-09-27 [Paul Doyle]: If there was a lot more lovin' in this world (and a lot less greed), imagine how much less conflict there'd be. I'm not trying to pull a John Lennon on you people, but I think you get the general idea.

2008-09-27 [The Red Baron]: POWER! UNLIMITED POWER! (throws Force Lightning at the nearest Jawa)

2008-09-27 [Lothuriel]: Now, hon. You promised to let me punt kick the next Jawa we found! No fair! *pouts*

2008-09-27 [The Red Baron]: (Pins the next Jawa down by pressing his index finger on the idiot's head)

"All yours."

2008-09-27 [Lothuriel]: YAY!! *claps*

*punt--Jawa goes flying off into the sunset*

2008-09-27 [The Red Baron]: (sets the Jawa on fire using the Force) Now it looks like a meteor.

2008-09-27 [Lothuriel]: oooooh <img:stuff/c-gif.gif>pretty!

2008-09-27 [The Red Baron]: Yes, and it goes KA-BOOM when it reaches its crash site.

2008-09-27 [Kyrinn]: the new star wars game you can torment all the jawas you wanna. Therapy... >:D

2008-09-27 [The Red Baron]: Trandoshanism.... WARNING: extremely gorey on the detail, not for the feeble-hearted. It's a piece from an old RPG involving Trandoshans. Again, warning, blood, gore, and cruelty to revolting things called Ewoks.

2008-09-27 [kay-chan]: Butbutbut... Giant stuffed bears! O.O

2008-09-27 [The Red Baron]: No, revolting creatures that should be hunted down to extinction or bred in cages for their fur, meat, and experimental purposes.

And I'll Trandoshanize/Richardize (Richard the Warlock in case you didn't know) anyone who doesn't like it.

2008-09-28 [kay-chan]: ...over the internet? :P

2008-09-28 [The Red Baron]: If we are to embrace the Force, one must use a wider perspective, not the dogmatic narrow view of the Jedi.

The Dark Side of the Force is a path to powers that many consider un-natural.

2008-09-28 [Paul Doyle]: Mmm, Gummi Bears.

2008-09-28 [Paul Doyle]: By the way, [Luke Skywalker] is back on Elftown. Speaking of Jedi and all

*adds Gummi Bears to shopping list*

2008-09-28 [The Red Baron]: He will join us or die!
We got Death Star!
(stormtroopers in the background) Death Star!

And you know that we got it, Death Star!

2008-09-29 [Mortified Penguin]: Yoda, why you bein' a playa hater?

2008-09-29 [The Red Baron]: You won't believe your eyes watch the X-wing rise.

2008-09-30 [jaraden]: you know, it does my heart proud reading this long and utterly confusing chat, all refering to star wars....

does this old jedi proud...

2008-09-30 [Jeccabee]: *hoards all the ewoks* dont hurt them! They're soft and squishy and nice for cuddling!

They make great pillows! :)

2008-09-30 [~Valkyrie~]: So, what are everyone's favorite "Star Wars" books?
I loved the "Jedi Academy Trilogy" by Kevin J. Anderson.

I love Ewoks! My friend (the biggest Star Wars fan you'll ever meet)had a dog that looked like an Ewok, she was 1/2 German Shepard, so she was all brown and pretty, and 1/2 Chow-Chow, so she was fluffy too. I miss Scout and Annie! :(

2008-09-30 [Lothuriel]: I like the Bounty Hunter Tales

2008-09-30 [Jeccabee]: I've never read the books, but my boyfriend has...and quite a few of the comics.

2008-10-01 [~Valkyrie~]: Jeccabee, read "Jedi Search" you'll get hooked, I promise. :p

2008-10-01 [Paul Doyle]: Does anyone else remember Han Solo's Revenge which killed him off? some of the stuff that came out between the original movie and "The Empire Strikes Back" was very, very interesting and astonishingly non-canon.

2008-10-01 [~Valkyrie~]: Han Dies?!?!?! NOOOOOO!!!!! I'm misunderstanding you, right?

2008-10-01 [Paul Doyle]: Whoops, now I'm going back and refreshing my memory from 25+ years ago. Han did not die, after all. "Han's Solo's Revenge" was part of a trilogy that chronicled the adventures of Han and Chewbacca prior to the first "Star Wars" movie. A childhood friend told me he was killed off in the third book, and this has stuck with me all of this time. (Remember, when these Han solo books came out, I was about six years old, and there were Han Solo death rumors prior to "Empire" and "Return", as well).

Oh well :P Internet verification of non-canon Star Wars trivia for the win!

2008-10-01 [~Valkyrie~]: Wow, you Really scared me there, it's bad enough that I found out...well, I won't say who, dies, I don't think I could handle it if Han died too.

What is it about books and movies such as these, we become so attached to the characters? More attached even, than some real people.

2008-10-01 [Paul Doyle]: Well, for all of the huge CGI advances in the prequels, are there any characters (other than Anakin, Padme, Obi-Wan and Palpatine) that we really care about, or resonate somehow with us? The original trilogy is still vastly superior, despite a generally awesome "Episode III", simply because the principal characters, and heck a lot of the secondary characters as well, are better conceived and more relatable in various ways. For example, we all know someone who's like Han Solo, or like Princess Leia. Also, the storylines are so much better done and so are the dialogues and plots.

This is how we become attached to these characters and stay attached to them, way after the geeky fascination of this gadget or that style of lightsaber fighting wears off. A hundred years from now nobody will give a damn about the first two prequels, and people will still love Luke, Vader, Han, Leia and the rest.

2008-10-01 [The Red Baron]: Concerning the description of Ewoks, I promise you all that unjust cruelty and sheer brutality and Anti-Ewok sentiments and will all cease when they're all dead! Extinct! They're irresistible, it's hard to kill just one.

Kill Han! Kill Chewbacca! (I'll beat the 'vongies to Sernpidal; then kill them too; beating the Bothans to the Ar'krai and making it seem like a game of chess.

Let's redecorate the galaxy as Necroplanets, kill many species and raise them as re-animated skeletons, Death Knights, Liches, wraiths, phantom warriors, dread knights, and....

I've been seeing too much of Richard the Warlock for my own good....

2008-10-01 [The Red Baron]: I make a move that Zonama Sekot be the next target for KA-BOOM!ing (yes, I invented a new verb) by the Death Star.

Let's see if a planet can scream in pain...

2008-10-01 [Paul Doyle]: Aaah, someone contact Marvin the Martian for the needed Kaboomite. After all, we don't want things getting wonkity and quadrospazzed.

2008-10-01 [The Red Baron]: I don't he has any of that; all he's got are P-38 Space Modulators and stupid Martian goons on scooters.

2008-10-01 [jaraden]: i am utterly shocked.. who's tripe for a brain came with teh idiotic notion of killing off han and chewy????????? morons!!
i refuse to believe it, and if such a book exists, i dismiss and deny its existance!!!

so there!

2008-10-01 [Linderel]: That would be R.A. Salvatore.

2008-10-01 [jaraden]: then he must die, as a traitor should!!! killing off han and chewy.. why not just kill them all off, it's not like they weren't the bleeding FOUNDATIONS of the star wars universe!!!

bastards!

i am an angry jedi now!!!!!!!!!
GRRRRRRRRRRRR

hunts for lightsaber...

2008-10-01 [Jeccabee]: I beleive [Paul Doyle] said he didnt die...he was misinformed.

calm down.

2008-10-01 [jaraden]: breaths a huge sigh of releif!!!!!!

i will never calm down.. those who have grown up with star wars and its characters would be appauled if that news were true..

thankfully it isn't.. my rage is subsiding...
*puts lightsaber back into my belt*

for now...

2008-10-01 [~Valkyrie~]: But James Luceno does kill off someone very important, someone who everybody loves. :'(
And being the unlucky girl that I am, I bought the book right after and came in when everybody is all sad and depressed.... Stupid "New Jedi Order" series.

2008-10-01 [Dark Side of the Moon]: [The Red Baron], I cannot believe that you have such loathing for those cuddly ewoks! Why I'll bet you've got one that you use for a teddy bear every night. *spears one* (Take that in the yub-yub, fuzzy)

2008-10-01 [All_Most PUNK]: There's at least 3 deaths of important characters in the last 2 series. Two of them aren't from the movies, though.

2008-10-01 [~Valkyrie~]: I've heard about Mara Jade, but who's the other?

2008-10-01 [Kyrinn]: Its kind of funny watching people freak out over the possible deaths of sci fi characters.

Though I get worked up over such things too, lol

2008-10-01 [jaraden]: it's one thing to kill of characters created after the movies, or ones based outside the core characters.. it is entirely a different story if an author kills off one of the core characters like han, chewy, luke or any of the other ones we as fans have grown up with and loved! i think the only person who has a right to do that is george lucas himself.. they are after all HIS creations... if a novel came out writen by him and he chose to kill off.. say luke.. then i'd be upset, but i'd accept it.. if someone else killed off luke, then i'd be pissed.. they have in my mind no right to do so... that's my point!

anyhow.. does anyone remember the ewok movie?? the ewok cartoon or the droids cartoon??? har har.. that's giving away my age!

2008-10-01 [Lothuriel]: Well, Han does eventually die but, he is quite old when it happens.

2008-10-01 [All_Most PUNK]: But it's authorized by Lucas, in any case.

2008-10-01 [Jeccabee]: I remember the Ewok movies...and my boyfriend has them, as well as the cartoons and the droids cartoons! LOL He has just about everything that Lucus made on DVD. this also includes his other movies (THX...er ####, American Graffiti, and all the Indiana films) He's a big Lucus nut. Just one of the reasons I loves him ^_^

2008-10-01 [Kyrinn]: There was a christmas special that lucas would rather have been destroyed, it was pretty bad. My husband remembers watching it on TV as a little kid. :P

2008-10-01 [jaraden]: yeah, and does anyone remember the casts appearence on te muppet show??? brilliant! good times!!!!!!!!

i suppose if han (or any character for that matter) meets his maker in the twighlight of their lives then it might be a fitting end to their lives and character.. i just hate it when an author ruins a series by taking liberties with characters that they did not create... get my gills up!!!!!!!

2008-10-01 [Lothuriel]: Lordy!! I lurved those horrible Christmas specials!!! LOL who can forget Droids? Ah!! The Star Wars Muppet show...I remember those too! *hobbles off on cane* I just showed my age again didn't I?

2008-10-01 [jaraden]: no older then i dear lothuriel.... you and i may creek on our rockin chairs wavin out canes at the youngins..

2008-10-01 [Lothuriel]: I so look forward to being a Granny. I'll be like 'hey you youngins' bring me muh Player's Handbook will ya? Now sit yer butts down and listen, boy do I have some stories to tell' Then bore my grandkids into comas with tales of my old RPG days..

My husband and I joke all the time that is what our future holds. Sitting around the nursing home roleplaying and playing Risk with our gaming group and getting in trouble for making too much noise, lol!

2008-10-01 [Kyrinn]: XD is that so bad though??

2008-10-01 [jaraden]: i'm right there with you on that one... forget bridge, i see myself playin risk, or clue, or better yet, poker when i'm an old fogey. talking to the grand kids about all the games i've played, trying to beat them at whatever new contraption has come out by then... my kids, heck my grandkids will think i'm an old loon.. but i'll still be playing video games when i'm old.. until the old arthritis flares up again..

hee hee *laughin with my dentures out*

2008-10-01 [Lothuriel]: Nope, I think it sounds like a fine way to go out [Kyrinn] ^___^
