You'd be surprised. I think every group has someone who's obsessive (if I make no sense forgive me, I've spent 7 hours in a board room watching a small tv and filling in questionnaires and reading crap that I'll never need to know)

For instance White is generally considered in many cultures as an innocent and balanced colour (Ie Virgin White just screams that doesn't it). I really don't know to be honest but if colours is important, I'd try to find out what each colour means or don't bother. Or just experiment. After all if white is working for you on a regular basis then more power to ya.

And it depends [zankou]. I don't put much store by things like that. A traditionalist is a bad person to ask these things about because when faced with a simple white candle and then other more shiny options we'll look at you perplexed and ask "what on earth for?" If things work fine, then good, if anything your spell work would improve with the betterment of your own focus. Colours are just a shiny aid to help you focus things, really. Magic comes from within and around, not based on what colour you use. But if you are easily swayed by the colours in front of you and are say...performi
After my frist year of this I stopped using coloured things all together. What I do tend to do though, if I want to infuse an object with certain qualities, I will visualise colours or images. If you're stuck using white candles, then in your minds eye you can alter the colour. I'll stick with the example of healing. Say I were working for someone in need of mental peace, I'd infuse the object or candle as being a calm blue colour. Were they in need of energy I'd choose a more vibrant colour such as red or orange.
They key is to choose colours that will enhance your own working, the actual power doesn't come from the candle, but the will of your intent.
I'll refrain from making any scathing remarks about Wicca's love for spending money on such pointless items (oops) but really, they are not necessary.
2008-02-19 [The Naiad]: I agree completely with Dela. You don't need shiny objects to feel connected with the God(s) and Goddess(es). I never like spells anywho. I'm quite content to just enjoy and express myself in Nature. If I need assistance, of course, I ask the Gods to guide me. In turn, I celebrate them on the Celtic/ Wiccan Sabbats. But I find that material things (like candles) can sometimes hinder, rather than help. Although, as Dela pointed out, they are useful when consentrating your energy.
