Leaves

Flowers
Flowers of common violets are pansy-like, white to blue to purple, and also yellow. The side petals are hairy near the base. Common violet flowers appear early in spring.

Acción Farmacológica
El aceite esencial le confiere una acción antiséptica, antiespasmódica y estimulante general. Frecuentemente se utiliza como corrector organoléptico de preparados cosméticos y perfumería, por su agradable aroma canfóreo.

Indicaciones
Astenia, dispepsias hiposecretoras, espasmos gastrointestinales, disquinesias hepatobiliares, gastroenteritis, infecciones dérmicas, heridas. En las zonas donde crece tiene un amplio uso popular, considerándose una panacea: se usa para tratar todo tipo de dolencias (véase Mulet, 1991).

Contraindicaciones
Salvo indicación expresa, recomendamos abstenerse de prescribir aceites esenciales por vía interna durante el embarazo, la lactancia, a niños menores de seis años o a pacientes con gastritis, úlceras gastroduodenales, síndrome del intestino irritable, colitis ulcerosa, hepatopatías, epilepsia, Parkinson u otras enfermedades neurológicas.
No administrar, ni aplicar tópicamente a niños menores de seis años ni a personas con alergias respiratorias o con hipersensibilidad conocida a éste o a otros aceites esenciales.

Precaución / Intoxicaciones
La esencia puede producir irritación de las mucosas, reacciones alérgicas y, a dosis extraterapéuticas, cefaleas, náuseas y sopor.

Formas Galénicas / Posología
Uso interno:
- Infusión: una cucharada de postre por taza. Infundir 10 minutos, 2 ó 3 tazas al día, después de las comidas.
- Aceite esencial deterpenado: 2 a 4 gotas sobre un terrón de azúcar, o en cápsulas (25-50 mg/cáps.), una a tres veces al día.
Uso externo:
- Infusión: aplicada en forma de lavados o compresas.
