80 in art so far...my teacher said my work was inconsistant...some things really amazing, like some of my photography, and drawings, she said my pattern designs were the best in the class, and I'm really good at looking at something, or just its style and replicating it. Then she said somethings just didn't par up, so I have to try and make it all as good, she thinks I can do really good in the course. She wants me to talk more during critiques, she said when i do talk, I sound really intelligent, so I should do it more. XD Generally, my pieces that weren't so great were things that I didn't draw...I hate collages and other weird little things. >.> I was shocked she thought my work was so good. O.O Totally reminded me of when my english teacher got pissed at me in highschool when she realised that I was good at english, but was getting crappy marks. XD

I gotta remember to get some pictures of some of my work from class.

Running head: Cognitive Evolution & Predictions

Cognitive Evolution: Predicting the Next 200,000 Years

Amanda M. White

Keyano College

Abstract

How will cognitive abilities have evolved by the next 200,000 years? This prediction of humans evolution discusses how humans cognitive traits of their intelligence (thinking, logic, linguistics…etc), and reaction time (processing, sensory and perception…etc) will evolve by the next 200,000 years in the occurrence of humans exceeding carrying capacity. It will demonstrate how in the case of many natural disasters that dramatically drop the human population aid in pushing evolution by showing that those with a natural intelligence, and those with naturally high reaction times survive and out number those without either. It will show that their reproductive success is higher, resulting in their genetic code for intelligence and reaction time being passed on to the next generation to eventually produce a more intelligent human race with a higher reaction time that aids in their succeeding to spread their genetics to the next generation.

Cognitive Evolution: Predicting the Next 200,000 Years

Humans are constantly evolving, bit by bit, and gene by gene. With environmental issues pushing evolution, how will humans have cognitively evolved within the next 200,000 years? Within this article there will be predictions of just that.

In present day, cognitive abilities are a great asset to man, though, through man-made    efficiencies, mans own cognitive abilities have become less crucial as a part of human life. Technology has brought about an age of computers, microchips, and implants; all things that require man to do less thinking of his own, and less problem solving or even decision making. A few cognitive traits that help characterize humans today are their intelligence (thinking, logic, linguistics…etc), and reaction time (processing, sensory and perception…etc). Presently humans use intelligence in everything they do; it’s what sets them apart from other organisms. Human’s use intelligence heavily for linguistics and communications and wouldn’t be at their current point in evolution without these traits, as well as the other traits of intelligence. These include logic, and thinking. These are very critical, they allow humans to problem solve, reason, make decisions, and learn new skills to aid in survival. In today’s world it is critical to be able to use these traits, they allow humans to successfully succeed in their environment which they created also by using these traits, attend educational facilities to learn everything they know to get through adulthood, and make responsible decisions in their life. Humans presently also use reaction time constantly, when they move, think, calculate, perceive, and use their senses. Human reaction time presently cannot keep up with human needs; this is made up for throughout human technology. Humans now use computers to calculate, problem solve and process information at a higher speed than it is currently possible for them to do themselves. In the past, humans relied more so on their own abilities for these tasks.

In the next 200,000 years, given the present occurrences, human’s carrying capacity will be heavily exceeded and the environment will no longer be able to support such a large population of one species. At this point, measures will be taken by the natural environment in an attempt to dramatically drop population to a safe level that the earth can support. Natural disasters will develop that take a dramatic toll on human life; hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and other various types and degrees of storms. The effects of these disasters will be devastating, electromagnetic currents short circuiting electronics, terminating electricity and rendering technology useless as building and manufacturing plants are destroyed as well as countless human lives. The survivors will then have to face the task of continuing to survive without the aid of technology and having to find safe shelter, and food. In this devastated environment where nature wreaks havoc with powerful storms, the remaining population quickly becomes divided between who has the tools necessary to survive, and who does not.

Those with faster reaction times that are able to process the situation faster, as well as quick decision making have a higher chance of survival against the elements than those who are much slower in making decisions and processing the situations that they face. Someone with a lower reaction time would have a harder time dealing with life threatening situations, and would die faster than someone with a naturally higher reaction time that can react appropriately to the given situation much faster as they process and perceive their surroundings faster. Those with a higher intelligence and have a higher ability to think, use logic and reasoning also has a better chance of survival than those who don’t because someone with a lower intelligence would also have a harder time dealing with life threatening situations, and would potentially perish before someone with a natural intelligence that can think logically and make critical decisions. Though for a few generations those with learned intelligence will continue to survive, though at a much lower population. Within the next 200,000 years a male and female reproducing together that have the cognitive abilities for intelligence, and reaction time will have greatly increased resulting in offspring who have biologically evolved through generations of this process to have a heightened intelligence compared to today’s humans, and a heightened reaction time, or both combined as a result of pairings of those with the evolved intelligence traits, and those with an evolved reaction time. In the game of survival a human would more likely be drawn to a partner who has the proper capabilities to survive and protect than someone who does not, since someone having a more difficult time surviving would more likely be looked over as a potential partner, though they will still reproduce, due to their smaller numbers their reproductive success will not be as great as those with the tools to survive. These evolved humans will be much better at processing and calculating information, their reaction times will be greatly increased, allowing information to pass through their synapses and neurons much faster allowing them to physically react faster, and cognitively while thinking and problem solving. Their evolved intelligence will allow them to have a greater capacity for knowledge and learning, they will be more logical thinkers with a higher skill of reasoning.

Overall, due to environmental issues pushing human evolution, in 200,000 years the human race will be a much better species than it is today, likely having a greater appreciation for the environment and having less of a need for technology that pushes the limits realizing the disadvantages of relying so heavily on it. Humans will potentially have a more wholesome lifestyle as they rely more on their own cognitive abilities in society.

Oh yes! There was a professional artist in class today! David someone...I don't remember. X3 He gave me compliments. Said I was good at....I dont' remember, begins with a D and indicates I was good at mimicking styles...we had two images, and had to draw an image to end the seqence, or go in the middle...like, a bird, a cat...and what happens when you put them together. Or a trowl and a flower in a pot...what goes inbetween...my teacher said we could try and keep the drawing style consistant, so I used the same style as in the images...and the artist guy complimented my work. And another was a girl and a spider...so i drew her on her knees crying...the little spider in front of her...and he looked at it and went 'WOW.' I think I may have turned red. X3 And then we joked about a little girls screaming reaction to a spider. X3 Boost of self esteem. :P And I heard him saying something about another piece that was tacked up he didn't know was mine, I don't know what he said, but he expressed an interest I think. :P

And omg. Scott is amazing. He's a guy in my class...and his art rocks, he's into western comic style...and there was an image of a girl and chalkboard....and I don't know if what he drew was a teacher....I think it was...but everyone joked she looked like a prostitute...cause she was all sexy with a short plaid skirt. XD And for the cat and bird one, he drew them sitting down having tea together...the spider one, a giant spider with a womens head that was getting blasted. XD It was so awesome. He intimidates me. >.> He's so good. >.>

Oh yeah...Boston Pizza bbq chicken pizza is good...and their new fancy drinks....one, I don't remember the name is like a rocket icecream...blue, white and red...it's a slush, and the red is raspberry smirnoff vodka, and when you mix the layers, it does taste like the icecream, it's really good...and Space Freeze tastes like an icepop thing too....it's orange smirnoff vodka and blue curaco( I LOVE blue curaco), it's also a slush, and it's bright blue, with a slice of orange, and a yummy cherry. it's so pretty. X3 And yummy. Oh yeah...can't forget the $6 piece of cake. >.> Chocolate Explosion cheescake. @_@ *drools* So fucking good it isn't fit. My brother took me out for supper the other night. :P

My audition for AiS that I had only sent in a message to Ferox, but never posted. I wanted to make sure I had a copy saved, so I'm putting it here. <3

Deep within the halls of the Mountain Lords, the High Lord has called a joining of the greatest dwarven druids and clerics, to divine the source of the coming darkness from the Elfin lands... You stumble into this sacred procession, and watch in awe as the ceremony progresses.. Suddenly, a vile blackness sweeps across the stone-hewn floors, and horrifying beasts descend upon the dwarves as they work their magic...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Audition(Niari):

The observer's lips pull back, their corners twisting upwards into a cruel grin as his lips part revealing pointed canines; his tongue sweeps quickly over a salty lip before this sinister smile widens further. His dark complexion comaflages him from view, though, his cold icy eyes pierce through the darkness. There was no pity here for the poor dwarves. Niari begain to laugh, a chuckle at first which ascended into malicious laughter which echoed throughout the stone hall as he watched the beasts descent upon the dwarves. He stepped foreward, into the hall, "Where is your mightly 'god' now? Foolish dwarves! To think that you could find a way to stop this..." Niari's expression contorts to utter disgust, as if something fowl had been placed beneath his nose, "Such inferior, pathetic creatures as yourselves would have been better leaving things be, and accepting your fate! What could such weak fools hope to achieve?!" He laughs again, looking on as dwarven blood was spilt. A dwarf, flung by one of the beast, lands infront of Niari, eyes pleading to be saved by a diety Niari knew could care less. He steped foreward. The dwarf registered that another being was near, and his eyes finally found Niari, and grew wide. Niari's expression was cool as he stepped foreward casually, and lifted his foot above the dwarves head, insane enjoyment shone in Niari's eyes as he watched the look of terror upon his new victims face, and amidst the chaos of the hall, the demon brought his foot down with enough force to shatter stone, releasing a loud cracking noise followed by a sound thick pudding might make after falling from a height....

Who wants to write my psychology assignment for me? >.>

In less than 4 pages, APA(American Psychological Association) format, predict how you think Humans will have cognitively evolved by the year 200,000, make sure you can support your idea's through natural selection, and that none of them are cultural.

That is basically what my paper is to be written on.

Sounds easy huh?

Now really THINK about it. It's how we evolve cognitively. It means internally, as in your mind and thought process. This means you must becareful to exclude all things cultural or you will lose marks. Meaning you can't write anything about evolving through technology...because thats artificial. Cybernetic implants? Genetic Engineering? Nope. Neither allowed. Even genetic engineering is artificial, and not natural.

If we want to write that the human race becomes more intelligent...how?

You have to differentiate between inherited intelligence through DNA, and learned intelligence. Someone naturally born smart scores 100% on a test. Someone born not smart, from non smart parents, also scores 100% because his intelligence is learned, he studied well and earns high marks despite not being born smart. If this individual goes on to pass his DNA on to offspring, they do NOT inherit his learned intelligence...they only get the non smart gene. Therefore humans can not evolve to become smarter through what their parents have learned. They can only achieve this through someone naturally smart bearing children with someone else who is also naturally smart to slowy make the next generations smarter and smarter, bit by bit.

So in order for your prediction that humans become more intelligent, you have to create a plausible scenerio where for some reason, smart people reproduce more that dumb people to pass on more of their DNA to the next generation.....chances are...dumb people aren't going to just choose to stop having children, so saying in your paper that smart people have more children than dumb ones isn't going to work. >.>

The scenerio you create doesn't have to be likely either. Someone last year handed in a paper on Aliens invading the Earth, and survival of the fittest that way, and apparently got a pretty good mark on it.

I have an idea for the topic I may write on...but I have to track down Chaston first and run it by him first to make sure I have the idea straight. The man gets a kick out of watching his students squirm when he makes their brains melt with science. He has admitted that he is a little evil. >.>

ARGH. Due freaking Wednesday. I don't wanna write the abstract either. Due the same day as my freaking art assignment too. >.> Still haven't taken pictures for that...I don't know where to go around here to get good ones. >.>

Hahahaha! This article is about some research my psychology and cognitive strategies teacher did. XD Theres even a clip, if you click it, click the thing saying your under 13, then you don't have to register to watch it. XD He showed us this in class, and thought it was rather amusing because for a few weeks he got a lot of media attention on a two page article he and some other guy wrote after some research. XD Seriously though, he's a cool professor, his classes are actually interesting and make you look forward to going. >.>

:O I had Japanese for dinner. First time ever. XD I ate at a place called Edo Japan, and had Chicken Yakisoba. O.O It was good. They didn't have ramen or sushi. >.> Theres another Japanese restaurant here somewhere though. Omg, the cute asian guys. >.> Mrow. Good looking guys in general. o.O Lots of 'em. X.X *dies*

I think I got looked at. o.O I never got looked at at home. And jeez, the girls dress skankier here too. >.> They look like hoes. >.>

We went to a superstore place to get groceries. And I guess since there is such a high population of asian's in west canada, they had a lot of asian foods, the noodles in what I had at the restaurant were u-don noodles, and we found some at the store. Lots of food items from different cultures. Sorry if i sound like a total clueless moron, but it's very different from where I'm from...it's like probaly 98% caucasian there, unlike here.

There are cool stores...couldn't really look or go in a lot of them today, I think we're going again tomorrow. So I'll get to look around. They had the manga series I was looking for. Except the volumes I actually don't have. >.>

My brother has no style or sense in interior design. This is the most bland looking apartment....I put out some of my ordaments, and candles(though I'm not allowed to light them. >.>) Just to make it look a bit better, and mom put out some pictures. O.O

Holy crap. The heat in town is nuts...ok, so it's a city...but it seems more like a large town, since the tallest buildings are the hotels...which arne't overly large. X.X I bet my back is burned.

Wee for having less than 2 hours sleep in the past 41 hours.

It was raining. It calls for lightning. >:D Apparently they get REAL thunder and lightning storms. And there was a huge full rainbow, with another faded out above. I have pictures. And pictures from the plane, but no current way of getting them on my brothers computer.

Also...Montreal is the most beautiful place I've ever seen. The sun was setting when we landed there, and mostly dark out when we took off(I never left the plane), so I got to see it all lite up, and Calgary was nice too, but I likes Montreal more, it was gorgeous, I wish my camera didn't suck at taking pics at night, I would have took some.
