22:32 — I got the original English version of The Left Hand of Darkness today and speed-read through it. Squee. Some points were made clearer, but still, language-wise, the Finnish one was better. And not just because I didn't understand rather many of the English words... Finnish fits better, maybe because there's so much talk about the snow and climate, which is similar to Finland. And the Finnish vocabulary matches the culture and climate pretty well. That and our superior uni-sex pronouns.
14:06 — OMFG. Blind Guardian singing happy happy joy joy songs. Ô_Ô ...Holy crapmonkeys!! They're singing "Barbara Ann". I mean... so not Blind Guardian style. XD
Er, yeah. I got Clive Barker's Imajica in mail today. I only ordered it on last Friday. Darn fast, wow. I need to start reading... when I get over my laziness... I also ordered the original English version of The Left Hand of Darkness, but that didn't come yet. I want to have the Finnish translation too, but I can find it in bookstores... maybe I should go pillage second-hand bookshops instead.
My graduation party went relatively okay... My mom managed to mess up almost every photo she took, though... I can only hope my uncle took better pictures.
I got my laptop, too. I also got it set up and working, and even my network cable works in it. Now I only wonder whether or not WLAN works on it. I'm not familiar with that stuff.
I still didn't get my student card. Sigh. Well, maybe on Friday then...
13:24 — OMG. I haven't touched The Left Hand of Darkness for a day. From the two days I read it for the first time, I've been rereading some bits and chunks from it and I can intellectually quote some pieces of the text. Yay! XD But now I haven't touched it for a day. Meep. I need to buy my own copy of it. I must. And a copy of the original English one, too.
I just had my first truly boring math class. I'm not exactly certain that my tiredness wasn't involved, but it sure was boring! I mean, like if x + a = y + a, I'd just really feel like stating the obvious (x = y) and not go into statements like y + 0 = y and a + (-a) = 0. Sure it's understandable that way, but I think of stuff with the help of a graphical representation
21:01 — I just decided not to go to the university morning classes tomorrow. Har!
21:03 — Oh and the info I need sure is NOT on the webpages of the courses.
21:08 — And one more thing. The Left Hand of Darkness! http://elfwood
22:24 — Sigh... I got up at about 13, reread a few parts of The Left Hand of Darkness and then my mom asked me and my little sister to vacuum and wash our cars. Well, there we go... At about 18 we were done, and now I'm rather tired. Even if it's only half to 23, hah. Not sleepy though.
01:29 — I just watched Scanners (1981). It was on TV. Not much of a movie, but it was strangely enjoyable, and who would care about anything else as long as it has mutant telepaths! Squee. It's half to two and I don't think I'll go to university tomorrow. Who wouldn't know everything about websites and viruses already.
But I did like the movie. I have to count exactly how many minutes the protagonist and antagonist try to blow each other's brains out! XD
17:58 — Yes... the first thing they teach in basic computer science is... how to use IRC in the class! It was this close that I didn't start drawing, but somehow I just felt that I'm perfectly good just sitting there.
I'm trying to draw something from The Left Hand of Darkness. Wish me luck. Drawing scenes or just characters from books is very demanding... I've tried at least once before, and failed miserably, which greatly decreased my urge to draw book characters. But here I go again...
20:49 — I started in the Technical University of Tampere yesterday. Tomorrow I'll have my first university lesson. They have a role-playing club. I think I'll go take a look at it. I wonder if they have an art or writing club.
I had a weird dream (or nightmare) not last night, but the night before that, I think. In the dream, I had problems with my right big toe. I could see the veins and goo, generally the inside of my foot from that piece. The weirder part was that my real foot was IN there, like it was a sock, but it was just the big toe and the next two toes. The thing also behaved like a sock, because it rolled down a bit sometimes. I was there, looking at it and going: "This can't be real." But I still didn't figure that it was a stupid dream! I think I want it to be real. Just to get something exciting into my life. Sad, eh? And in real life, I have some very small trouble with my LEFT big toe. Yay... Well, I've never been very good at telling left and right apart.
And Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness is a wonderful book.
20:32 — My (new?) favorite book is Ursula Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness.
05:40 — Har, I'm staying up through the night today! ...I think I need sleep.
17:10 — I and a few other mods had a really long and frantic conversation about what's offensive (yes, a picture to be modded started it), and ended up discussing swastikas and burning crosses. Well, I won't go into that, but I started thinking about swastikas. If you don't mind that it represents Nazis, i. e. try to forget it and stuff, I think it's a really neat symbol/mark thing. I just like it. I wish I could use it, but in nowaday's world, I just couldn't get away with it no matter how much I claimed that the mark doesn't represent Nazis. Sigh. Oh well...
00:45 — Har! Lemmings is awesome. http://193.151
00:45 — I just tried to kill yet another wart. I have altogether three of them. All teeny tiny. The one of interest is the one on my toe.
Aren't my diary entries just exciting, or what?
20:31 — Holy crapmonkeys. Today I drove my mom to the health care center. She has something wrong in a nerve or something. Later I had to drive my mom's miniature soccer players to a game, and I had to stay there because the drive home was longer than the game. Not only that, but it was hellishly hot, there were hellisly lot of mosquitoes (I've been eaten! Argh!) and I had to take photos of them. And then drive back. Gngngngn.
22:37 — Argh! Just when I thought "yes, the pizza place is still open and my dad agreed to order a pizza", NO, the place won't get the pizzas to us! ARRRGNGNGN I'm hungry and I want pizza!
19:14 —
23:25 — ARRRGGGHHH! It's hot as hell in here! 27 freaking °C! I'm melting! Vaporizing!
00:58 — Today I've mostly been building the new clothes shelf/closet my mom got for our hall. My hand is hurting from all the screwdriving, my fingers are just sore, my feet hurt and my knees have exploded from crawling around the floor. On the other hand, it does feel like I'm playing with a huge lego set. Adult legos! Not only that, but I'm ALSO useful for my parents. Whoopee.
I tried to kill yet another wart. It's a really tiny one on the ball of my left foot. I'm not sure what's come of the one on my right foot... I tried to kill it, and I looked like it might have died, but now it doesn't look that different. Hm. Oh well.
I pondered joining MAX or CMAX. I'd like to have my characters drawn, and I don't really mind drawing others' characters... especially when in this business I tend to be from the erm... slightly better end. But the last thing I want to see are my precious characters drawn in bad manga style... Oh the contradiction. Anyone want to do an art trade?
12:58 — http://www.liv
Yeah, well. I doubt you'd want to see it.
23:53 â My parents got home today. Finally some real food... but not until tomorrow. All of our family will rot at home for three weeks, and after that my parents will go to their jobs, my little brother to high school and little sister to junior high. I'll start at university a week or two later.
Apparently my mom is going to organize a darn huge ceremony for my getting out of high school... it's kind of ridiculous. There's going to be 19 people, I think. Õ_Ô Urrh... My family (5), my parents' friends' family (5), my aunt's family (5), my uncle's family (3) and my grandmother (1). OMFG. I think I'll drive to Jyväskylä and hide there.
23:50 Ninja Gaiden. Today I played to the final boss (at least I think it's the final one) and I don't have any elixirs, save for one that'll return magic energy. Yay. Well... I might be able to beat it using all fireballs, but... Got to see that later.
Our house has been invaded by ants (namely the toilet and also the place where the laundry machine and dryer are and which we use to pass down to the gaming/TV room). Ants. In the toilet. And my parents aren't here to do anything about it, so we keep vacuuming them.
00:03 â Rant rant. Ninja Gaiden. In Chapter 9 there's a save station in the Locomotive Turntable area. No problem. Well, I went into the next room and the doors were locked. I beated two tanks (sub-boss things). Okay... doors still not open. Well, I don't have any elixirs left but I already defeated the sub-boss, so let's move on. I went to the Overpass area and goodi! there was a save station. Maniacal saving. Well, I only have an inch of energy left and only one great elixir, but that shouldn't be a problem, I already fought the sub-boss. Well, I go beat the next two thugs and absorb some energy from them, and whoopee, I've got a darned helicopter up at me! Well, it shoots homing missiles at me... when I evade the first one, the last one will hit me, AND it shoots at me 2â3 series of 4 missiles at once! As if that wasn't bad enough, Ryu's aim stinks. I can't say I'd be much better, but come on. Even the thugs I just killed could aim better. Well, that was pretty much it. I probably died around 200 times on that scene, either on the helicopter or the thugs who also had missile launchers. That was two or three days ago. Today I passed it and found the shop! Goodie, I already had like 5 scarabs and 25000 money units since the last store.
Just for the record, I'm now fighting two über-cute giant worms! *squee*
00:13 â More ranting. We're leaving for Joensuu tomorrow. The thing I go there to do is drive 420 km there, pick my little brother and drive 420 km back. But, my mom wants me to visit all my relatives! I just wonder why. They know how I look like (it's not like I would change so much after finishing growing) and they can ask how I'm doing over the ohone (which they already do). On top of that, I'm bad at speaking in person, so I'm always more or less a disappointment anyway. And if that's not enough, I don't really want to see my relatives either. I don't like the views of life my mother's family has, and I've never heard my father's family actually asking me to go there. For me, that trip is 3 days of nothing to do 420 km away from my computer! Plus, I can't even sleep in my own bed! And my mom said I can't drive back on Tuesday evening because of MOOSE (elks? Whatever). Moose. Seriously. I figure they've ran into a moose every time they've driven at summer late in the evening. It's not like I have good vision, better than they have, or that I get really sick in direct sunshine (in which I will be unless I drive at night), or that there are 10 times more cars moving at daytime. Somebody please explain to me. I want to be home, write, draw, play, watch movies and surf the net. I can't do any of these properly elsewhere. I want to stay home.
18:09 — Well, I got my grades.
