19:14 — I found out a while ago that the OS I installed didn't accept the activation key anymore. So yeah. I then played around with it for a while, copying my files in a better organized way while trying to figure out what to do next. I tried another Windows but it was in Dutch (yay! >_>).
Let's see.
In other news, an online friend of mine was here in my house for the weekend and I'm bouncy. X)

12:38 — I think I know now how to copy the whole of the disk, if this thing just agrees to work, which I doubt, but I have to try. Whee, Windows manual repair with DOS things. The memory I bought yesterday works fine and I like the new HD, too. If this doesn't work, I'll just reinstall windows and transfer and export files and stuff.
In other news, I needed to get a password to reserve my physics lab hours last week, but I forgot, and I apparently can't get them on this week (exam week). My conclusion is based on experience from today. I went to get the password from the lab like I should have, but it seemed the lab was closed. Therefore I went to the other room they said the password could be gotten from, but no one answered my knocking, so I left. That wasted 76 minutes of my life and 60 km worth of diesel.
I was getting frustrated last night at about 1 in the morning with my computer and some other things, so I'm not feeling exactly happy here or anything. I need to also clean up our TV/playing room.

19:06 — Oh stars damnit! I couldn't access my old HD and OS's "My Documents" from the new HD and OS because well, I wasn't the owner or anything. So I tried desperately logging into my old HD and OS to move those damned files. Well, it didn't work, I always got an error no metter what and I even fixed the error. The reason was because I was trying to boot the wrong OS. The old HD came to have three OS choices of "Windows XP Professional" and I kept choosing the second because that's what I had used to temporarily look at things in the old and new HD without them being OS-y. For some reason I just didn't realize that my original OS was the third choice. Of course. Things like this happen to me. And I was just about to give up, too! My carelessness is getting "legendary", should we say. Well, I should be able to export registry and fix all nice things now. Yeah right. Well, at least my files are there and being aggressively copied. Now where exactly is my email?

19:53 — I have killed hamburgers. File-copying is doing good this far... but those were just the files. Now I should copy some system and program files and maybe registry.

21:11 — File-copying is advancing. Now I've once again taken the old HD out, thinking that I won't need to plug it in anymore, except maybe for formatting later. It was a good disk but so bloody damned noisy. This new one doesn't even crunch when I copy!

14:32 — Holy crap! I went to the city again. First to the computer store (used 512 MB memory and a 160 GB HD), then to a big store (whatever they're called in English) (a shirt, wow). I nearly bought myself a trenchcoat but thought it wouldn't be worth it. Besides, most of them were too big. Then I walked further and went to another big store, but didn't buy anything because there were too many people there. I couldn't find a book in the bookstore so I finally went to McDonald's and walked back to the car which I'd left about 4 km away because I just couldn't be bothered to drive around with it and pay a lot of extra for it and worry about getting back to it in time and because I was nearly out of diesel. When I got home, my hands smelled like diesel, hamburger and apple juice, in that order. Well, at least that trip was successful! Now I have a shirt and a new HD!

16:25 — The file-copying seems to be working well. some files aren't copied because the system is annoying, but I'm hoping real hard that won't matter.

16:37 — So much for that... DISK BOOT FAILURE. Recovery install doesn't work because I'm lacking a password. I wonder what it'd do if...

16:47 — Hmm, Let's try my portable linux. Whee, Mandrake Move. On a CD. >_>
...Bwahaha!
Fatal server error: no screens found
fatal IO error 104
can't launch graphical mode :(
exited abnormally :-(
Hilarious.

17:40 — Whoa. The problem with my new HD is "NTLDR is missing". How educational.

19:22 — I tried to fix the problem by using some instructions from a site for that NTLDR problem. It sure helped, but not quite enough... the OS starts very slowly and then eventually stops loading. Now I'll try yet another external thing. I'll download knoppix and try use that to copy my things. Maybe that will work when the Mandrake Move didn't. Damn I'm lucky to have a laptop with a burning CD drive.

19:28 — My new HD's sound imitation:
Seagate Barracuda 160 GB: very high-pitch mosquito.

20:38 — Woohoo! Knoppix works! Now I have to see whether it can copy the whole disk and stuff.

23:05 — I'm getting rather frustrated. Nothing works when I try to copy the files. Knoppix complains about permissions or other things, Partition Magic just won't do it (I blame NTFS because a lot of copy things don't seem to do NTFS system) and so on. I'll try again with Knoppix now that I've once again formatted the new HD. Maybe now it won't complain about the permissions. Yeah, as if.

14:22 — Okay, so. My 60 GB hardrive started making a ton of noise (well, it's always been noisy, but whatever). Today I bothered to test all my HDs for noise.
Deskstar 60 GB: ow, my ears! Drill-imitating mosquito to the power of ten!
Deskstar 40 GB: beeeeep?
Maxtor 30 GB: mosquito.
The two deskstars aren't even that much age-different. Maybe it's just bad, then. Oh well, the problem is that all of my stuff takes up about 41 GB. Like, just by coincidence. So it doesn't fit on one HD and I'm not sure about how to copy it all, system files and stuff.

20:28 — I made a lousy backup of whatever it was that I'd changed after the last time I made a backup. Now I should just copy a bunch of system files and... gah if I have to reinstall all my programs and stuff. I think I'll try using WinXP's formatting thing to copy the stuff over. Or my absolutely trusted Win98SE boot floppy. That'd take a year or something.

20:53 — In other news, I killed a math exam today. It was the first course of engineer math. Last year I did the first course of extended math. You wouldn't believe the differences. It's silly. I fail horribly the extended math exam and yet totally ace the engineer math exam (I think, though I probably just jinxed it). This is annoying.

22:54 — I'm bored when I can't really access my regular computer, so I'll just whine about backups. There's this "Transfer files and settings" thing on WinXP that I thought I could use to make a nice backup. Well, okay, cool. So I proceeded, but it made a copy of everything, including this it didn't need to copy. Of course I ran out of disk space. Next, I'd try to not copy all the files. Well, it doesn't let me do that. Therefore I move some files and try to have it compress enough so that it can fit on the damned HD. The whole size of my stuff is 41 GB, if I remember correctly. Now, the disk I'm trying to stuff it all in is 40 GB. Heck, surely there's something with the OS that's taking up 1 GB and doesn't have to be saved. Right? Right? Hell no. This thing is still copying. I'm sure it'll complain sooner or later about disk space. Asshole.

23:02 — Blah blah blah. What could I possibly complain about... Hmm, yeah. I was supposed to go buy a shirt and possibly pants last week. I went to a bunch of different stores and stuff (yeah, mainly the computer shop and a bookstore, but anyway). Okay, a shirt. There's a million of them and I don't know what I want. Million different colors, million different models and a million different other things about clothing that I'm unaware of. Sigh. I'll try again tomorrow. maybe I'll get lucky.

13:44 — I was totally convinced yesterday that I need to leave at approximately 12:30 so that I can take this piece of paper to the police so that I can get my permanent driver's license, and then go to lectures that start at 14. So I did just that. After taking the paper to the police, I left for university. Right before the center of Tampere I looked at the time and realized, damnit, the lecture started at 12 and not at 14. It was 13:11 by then, so I snickered, turned around with style and drove home.

22:12 — I went to physics lectures that started at 8 and left at 10. Then I went to the computer store to buy power units. I also went to a big store to look for a shirt. You know that feeling you get when you're looking for a shirt and there's a whole floor of a huge building full of shirts and stuff? Now, the only option isn't to go poke a salesperson and say "I want a shirt." There are also choices like 1. go shopping with your preferred parent, 2. leave, 3. have a nervous breakdown and 4. get nervous and leave. The 5th option of trying on every shirt there is... well, infernal and should not be tried. I nearly always do 4 nowadays. Let's just say that I don't have much clothes.
The power supply units were okay. It was rather sad to realize that most of the noise in my computer is generated by the damned hard disks and not the fans. Oh well, I suppose it is a bit quieter. [Gastogh]'s computer got noticeably better (I think), but there the main noisemaker was the CPU fan, of course. Or some other fan.
I was so busy installing my power unit that I nearly forgot to go play today! What a shame. Either way, it was awesome playing. We got totally pwned with our 11 goblin and 2 hobgoblin heads though.

21:11 — Oh the hilarity that is my and [Lunnie]'s conversation (just imagine the topics before this that might have caused this to happen and you'll never sleep another night) XD
(21:09:22) [Lunnie]: I think my dog enjoys starving herself xD
(21:09:32) [Veltzeh]: how nice XD

14:13 — I counted the gas stations I could see on my way to school and back. Two in Hervanta, one near a Prisma store, one near the center, two in Lielahti, two near Teivon ravirata and the Ylöjärvi Shell. I remembered there would be a gas station near Näsijärvi, but apparently it was disassembled or something. I sure couldn't see it at least. Or then I just looked in the wrong place. There was also at least one, probably two boat stations along the way. And of course the place where big trucks get gas or something, but it's somewhat hidden.
Result: 9 gas stations on a 30 km trip.

14:40 — I was checking that my translation of goblin was correct, and I stumbled on some hilarious dictionary entries in the vicinity. First, "go-devil" is either putkenpuhdistusharja (a brush to clean pipes) or nitroglyserolin räjäyttämislaite (a device used to ignite nitroglycerine / make nitroglycerine explode). Is there any connection between these two? The whole concept of the totally unrelated word meaning both of these specific things is flat-out hilarious.
The next funny one was "god-forsaken". "At a god-forsaken time" was translated as "epäkristilliseen aikaan" (literally "at an unchristianly time"). Awesome. All the while "jumalaton" was correctly translated as "godless". However, in Finnish "jumalaton" is at least sometimes used in a place where in English "god-forsaken" would be used. That is, I'd like "at a god-forsaken time" to be translated as "jumalattomaan aikaan" which is literally in English "at a godless time". It makes a very nice mental image. Besides that, "jumalaton" can be used in other ways also, and it's generally a damn awesome word. Jumalattoman hieno sana. XD God-things make nice sayings even if I don't really believe in them or much anything.
...So what was "goblin" again? Krhm. "Peikko, menninkäinen". Yes. I'm once again right.

20:58 — Yay! My first actual gaming session was today. How awesome. Well, I got my little epicine halfling rogue killed anyway, but fortunately the other characters in the party were good. XD Heal away!

22:06 — I need to complain about my sleep, too. So, on Monday night I went to sleep early because I needed to get up at 6. Well, of course around midnight my dad starts making a damn big amount of noise in the kitchen and I wake up right after I had fallen asleep after rolling around in my bed for about an hour, maybe more. On Tuesday night I went to sleep and woke up at 4 because my guts were being annying assholes. Damn it hurt. I stayed up until maybe 5 or 5:30 and then slept until six. Let's see what happens today. Maybe my stomach strikes again, at least it hurt a moment ago.

14:27 — In Monday morning I was driving to school and kept glancing at the mirror because if there was an ambulance coming, I'd want to be out of the way. This has never happened to me and the three times an ambulance has went past was when I already was on the other lane. Even more frequently I've seen ambulances coming toward and driving past. Now, I didn't have any reason to keep glancing at the mirror so often. Yet I did, just up until the center of Tampere. Right there, I heard the sirens of an ambulance behind me, looked in the mirror and oh stars, there was an ambulance right behind me! The irony is ridiculous.
I blew my body fluids out through my nose today. I bet the people next to and in front of me had fun in lectures. I didn't bother to stay and infect the math exercise group, so I gave my papers to the assistent and left.

08:00 — Well, I slept very bad because of this damned cold again and my nose is being overly productive. I'm rather tired, but I think the pain pill is making me feel a bit better.
Here's a new link to my collection, too: http://www.rotten.com/library/sex/hermaphrodite/

20:41 — I was rather dead today, then slept over an hour at about 16 and now I feel like I won't sleep in the night at all. Sigh. Besides that, I wrote up my character description and background for my D&D campaign in university. Over 2000 words worth of babble in Finnish, probably to be illustrated by a drawing of the character. Please shoot me.

16:12 — Sigh, this illness kicked into high gear. First my throat just hurt, the nose started dripping and now my nostrils are conspiring against my brain which is confounded by the amount of snot. I couldn't sleep well so I'm tired too, yay. And what the heck is it with being cold in the night, except right when you get up, at which point you're sweating so much you'd need a shower? >_> Of course this only happens if I stay in bed longer than optimal, I suppose. Maybe it's just that I start rolling about so frequently that it's a form of exercise.

15:26 — I figured I'd write this thing here for the sake of writing it and remembering a realization, among other things that will be revealed.
For some reason a person referred to me with a gender-specific pronoun, even though these people know I say I'm genderless. Well, of course I was a little confused, and who wouldn't? The offender gave a reason that I understood as not being specific or not caring about my wishes. The first one was it conflict with my understanding of specific/unspecific and the other I would have had difficulty to digest when coming from a friend-like person.
Well, being confused, I had to go over it and ask more, and it collided with the issue about which we had been talking about. Along the lines the others started saying that I should get over it. Over what? I was still trying to understand what was going on, and then it I started feeling that the others didn't want to talk about it at all. This is one reason why I'm writing here and not trying to explain this to the others. They made it pretty clear to me that they don't want to hear my side of the issue. Of course my side of the issue seems to drastically differ from theirs and I'm not the best explainer.
Once again I'm not sure whether I should feel bitter, angry, insulted, happy that they didn't offend me worsely, indifferent or stupid for not getting it all at the same time as the others.
The issue we were discussing went completely unsolved, but I guess that's better.

21:11 — More psychoanalysis. For a long time I've been in positions where I constantly slightly disagree with people, but not so much that it would be the end of all. Now, I've noticed that if I express it so, very few ever even notice I said anything. If I try to completely explain everything about how I see things and so on, every single piece of text I'd write would be a page long. If I shortly and bluntly say I disagree, I'm quite often either forced to accept things or asked why and interrogated about it. I tend to give reasons for my choices (which I've noticed very few people doing otherwise), yet I seem to be the only one who's forced to explain them completely and have to be perfect. Now, it's bad enough that I'm a perfectionist in my eyes, but now others expect me to be perfect, too. Maybe I should just always keep my mouth shut.
It doesn't help the issues that I always think that what if I really am wrong or not explaining things understandably enough. Then, when I'm forced to give out a usually rather extremist view, I tend to give in because I have much difficulty accepting only one way for things. Sigh, I never knew flexibility was such a flaw...

In other news, I went to the RPG club again, played a nice game (very nice especially because I won both of the instances we played it, damn I rule) and signed up for a fuksi D&D thing. (Fuksi is a "first-year" university student, and apparently people stay that way until they've taken part in the "joke" thing that's arranged in vappu (first of May). Yes.)

15:48 — I have made progress today! I finally asked the janitor or whatever of one of the university buildings where its basement was. Well, being me, I had known where the entrances where. I'm just that good. The stairway from indoors was well hidden by clothes racks and a room and non-staircase-like structures, but it was there where I'd thought it to be. I had walked past several times, looking for a stairway and hadn't seen it. Oh well. The other entrance was the one from outside and it too was the door I had been eyeing suspiciously. Yeah, only I can accomplish something like this. :P

22:03 — Krhm. Cloak and Dagger. I've been reading comics again. I've seen them before somewhere else, probably in some X-Men story, but I remembered they were special somehow. Special, yeah. As if everybody else wasn't.
Well, it made me think about what they say: Without light there is no shadow and without shadowthere is no light (or it's useless). Something along those lines. Nevertheless, what is light and darkness without the things in between that reflect, refract, scatter and block that light?
Then I thought about electromagnetic waves and the whole thing lost its purpose and mysticism. Except not, but it's still a metaphor or analogy, I suppose. I never really liked metaphors. I like physics and that brings a whole new mysticity to it.

13:59 — Holy crap. The RPG club of my university is in the basement of Sähkötalo (Electricity house) and its address is SA016. Yet again I looked through the A hall and saw no staircase whatsoever leading downstairs. I know there is some way to the basement because I've been there. I think I went there from the outside, though, but I still can't figure out where the damn basement is. I think I'll blame it on waking up at 6 after bad nights, having to study physics and math right after each other for 4 hours and being unbelievably hungry because I'd get sick if I ate any more food in the morning. I should bring a snack and juice from home or something.
I was very hungry today and gave up as stated, drove home and forgot I was hungry. Damnit, I started doing the math exercises, thinking that I had forgotten something and didn't remember what it was. Geez. It's food time!
