Greenday's

AMERICAN IDIOT

by [ capybara ]

As a huge punk fan, I can safely say, this has been by far one of the best punk albums of the year. Green day have always been forerunners of the grunge and punk community, and this time they have truly out done themselves.

The first track released was the title track, American Idiot. This is without a doubt, very apt, and very appropriate. We have the American elections, their fatal results and the illustrious leader and the butt of the world's jokes, George W Bush, to thank for the best punk album of the year.

Better than Insomniac, and almost as good as Warning, this album is 24 tracks of solid gold. Except for American Idiot and Boulevard of Broken Dreams, which you will have seen on MTV and on the radio, the rest of the tracks are relatively unheard until you buy the CD.

My favourite tracks are ‘She's a rebel' and ‘whatshername' . This album is a perfect blend of mellow tunes, and rockin' punk rhythms. So, for the mild greenday fans, this is a must, and for the big greenday fans.. I don't even need to tell you, because you will have already bought it.

The song I don't care for, is ‘Tales of another broken home”. There seems to have been an outbreak in the sort of punk where the only topic is family upheaval and domestic suffering. I feel that this just isn't in keeping with punk morality and values.

Lyrics originality: The new lyrics are original, save for a few songs where the boys stick to good-old punk traditions, anarchy and so forth.
Rhythms originality: Always amazing, always fresh.
Punk value: Most of the tracks or hardcore punk, but some lead towards softer rock.
Stay value: The greenday boys have already proven themselves many times, and there is no doubt that they'll be around for a long time, and this new album looks to be a classic.
