The Poetry Corner - Issue 9

Passing of Time/Changing of Seasons

This issues Poetry Corner was incredibly successful! We've had so many poets return to us with several pieces, and new poets find us that maybe the Corner will live for another issue yet ;) Welcome to our new Poetry Heralder [Eiko] and thank you to all our other helpers recently! Remember, if you help long enough there's always a chance that you'll be made official!
Also thanks to those poets who have submitted enough to earn themselves either of our Poetry Eldar or Poetry Great Eldar buttons, it's elftowners like you guys who keep us going :)

This month's theme was “Passing of Time/Changing of Seasons" and we had an amazing amount of work submitted. Unfortunately some didn't make the final cut but all the poetry was wonderful and we hope to see more for the next issue, remember to read the PoetryCorner guidelines for the rules on guidelines to help your poetry get featured in the Herald :)

Please, show your support by checking out these members houses, and keep an eye out for next month's Poetry Corner theme for your chance to submit your work.

Thanks from all of us here at the Poetry Corner

"Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" by [ Jumpsteady ]

Ten years ago I was... sure things was gonna go my way.
I wanted be... able to live on forever.
I believed... that nothing could ever go wrong to me.
I hoped... that one day my dreams would come true.
I was afraid of... being alone.
I loved... everything around me, my family and my friends.
I learned... life is one big surprise.
Other people said I was... a spoiled baby.

Today I am... careless, fearless, but full of love.
I want to be... remembered for who I am, not what I have done.
I believe... there is true love.
I hope... that people won't think me of a nymphomaniac.
I love... one beautiful and wonderful girl.
I am afraid of... the thought of being alone.
I have learned... not to waste my time on chasing my dreams.
Other people say I am... different.

In 10 years I will be... completely different from what I am now.
I want to have already... a loving wife and a nice family.
I will still believe... that true love never dies.
I would love to have seen... my life grown with much of my dreams for filled.
I will no longer fear... of being alone.
I hope that I will have learned... that dreams can come true.
I want other people to say I am... not what they expected me to become.

It has vanished with the summer
Its flower withered in the cold
It missed the bloody autumn sunset
The people couldn't make to hold it

It was immortal, in its glory
It had them all, it had their lives
It was their precious sacred worry
It was the thunder in their skies

It was their slave, they had it captured
They cut it with their little minds
They had it thrusted, spiked and blinded
It lost its bright creative sands

Now it was free before its death
The autumn kissed it for goodbye
But before its final breath
It didn't have the time to die ...

"Innocent Seasons" by [Keisari], check out Kei's Poetry

Foolish years,
So long ago.
I fell for your charm,
Wanting to give you my all.
Seasons change,
Winter to spring.
Yet I was still waiting,
Colouring the world as a perfect painting.
I was so wrong those many years ago,
So foolish and naïve,
With my heart laid bare,
About what was wrong and what was really there.
How I long for those days,
Innocent and unaware,
When the world seemed so perfect,
A gigantic playground.
No suffering and heartache,
My heart laid open but at no risk,
Playing in the meadows,
With natures kiss.
Seasons change,
Winter to spring,
I age with the world
And cry with the wind.

"Seasons of life" by [ Calann ]

Time passes by
day after day
from my window I see
the leaves turning gold
and I know

autumn is coming.

Silently I wonder
will there be a day
sometime in this world
when I can awake
curled up in your arms

and you would be my spring
in my life of eternal winter.

Perhaps some day
you would bring me summer
and you would be my gentle sun
shining down on me.

"Everlasting love" by [ Elmiira ]

She sat in the tree
watching for the young boy playing
under the tree with his friends

She flapped her wings
dropped some apples
but the boy didn't even watch up for once

This little faery had beautiful dress
made of the leafs of a sunflower
and her wings where like the mist of autumn nights

autumn came.
other faeries flew to south, with the birds
she stayed in the tree and watched
the boy going and coming from school.

winter came and it was cold and dark
leafs had fallen down and it was snowing
the boy was inside in the warm and light
but she sat in the tree
watching inside from the window
she was freezing, but she didn't move

once the spring came.
it started to be warm again.
her body came warmer but her heart didn't
the boy didn't notice her even now.

seasons changed, other faeries moved.
She stayed in the tree.

The boy grew older
he was a young man now
and still she watched him from the tree

That boy once went married.
She watched their wedding
with tears in her hopeless eyes.

The boy got older.
He got children who played under her tree
she watched their play without a smile.

He was old.
Imortal fairy stayed young.
he had grey hair, forrowed face.
till he didn't know anything about the faery
who sat in the tree watching his life.

One day his life was over.
His sons carried him away.
But still she sats in the tree
watching son after son
remembering her everlasting love.

"Time" by [ Eiko ], check out Eiko's other stuff

Shadows come creeping in,
Walking on ice so thin,
If it breaks and I fall,
I'll be holding onto nothing at all,
It's just a matter of time,
Before we all die.
I can't grasp what I hold so dear,
I can't see what I thought was so near,
I'm going back in time
Keep on losing my mind.
Darkness is here,
Nothing in thier eyes but fear,
Sad thoughts swarm around me,
Why wont they just let me be?
I'm going back in time again,
Old thoughts I cannot mend.
I can't grasp what I hold so dear,
I can't see what I thought was so near,
I'm going back in time,
I've just lost my mind!

"Fading into Dusk" by [ oreades ]

A crumbling stone wall and
rusted wrought-iron gate-
beyond, broken porcelain dolls
torn lace
graves and tombstones
everything seen through an absinthe haze.
The graveyard merges with an abandoned fair
the merry-go-round creaking
and groaning
in its slow revolution, the once-vibrant music
quiet and sharp
a breeze drifts
lazily
through, barely moving, sucked in by the apathy
laced heavily through the air
tents once the home of marvels
and horrors
still stand, their colors gleaming dully in the
half-light of dusk.

"Baby Girl" by [ the squeegee ], check out A Piece of My Heart

My baby girl
is crying,
I try to wipe away
the tears.
Her little cheeks are red,
she's hungry I fear.

My baby girl
is crying.
As I hug and
comfort her.
She cut her knee,
jumping off the swing.
"it'll be alright my dear."

My baby girl
is crying.
She go in trouble today,
the principal
sent her home.
"It's not your fault," I say,
"little Johnny deserved it.
He should've let you have your way."

My baby girl
is crying.
love didn't work.
Big Johnny Dae
couldn't have been
more of a jerk.

My baby girl
is crying,
And I don't know
Why.
She's in her room,
I'll give her some time.

My baby girl
stopped crying,
As she lies
in her black bed.
If only I would've
taken time,
she'd be here
to comfort again.

"A Shadow's Diary" by [ shadow_of_life ], This poem was entirely inspired by [Elmiira]
poem can be found at: ShadowLife

Tender blossoms falling from the trees
They swim in the lake of my tears
When I realised I was in love with the world
And I didn't know what to do

Heavy raindrops hitting dusty ground
When the drought of my heart was over
And I saw life turning back and smiling at me
And its smile was brighter than the lightnings

Unreal crimson leaves dance with the wind
The same way I was dancing alone in the park
Because time had stopped to talk to me
And its words made me wiser and stronger

Fragile transparent snowflakes form flowers in the sky
While my heart was as frozen as their shiny crystals
Because death had come to kiss my desperate lips
And it ran away from the loneliness it saw in my eyes

...But there was something strange pushing from within me
It was aching, still it felt as good as pleasure
Just as if I was in love with the world
And I waited for the tender falling blossoms

"The Hour Glass" by [ pegasus1000 ], check out The Hour Glass

Time eating to eternity
Ravaged by the animals
That pick and claw at it

The Fire that burns in us
Dropping slowly to the end

Slipping sand into the sea
Consumed by the tides and
Cast into the eternal abyss

Never failing to run out
Right as time is up.

"Will of the wind " by [ Elmiira ]

it has been everywhere.
It has lived forever.
It has heard every secret.
it has seen everything.

Year after year
century after century
millenium after millenium
it has blown,
wandered
all over this world.

It has seen the first human being
it has blown on his face,
played with his hair.
Like it does with ours today.

It is the soul of the world.
It can take a leaf
and carry it to the other side of the world.
it can make a huge storm and destroy.
But it can be a little whiff in a stale hot day.
What ever is it's will.
Will of the wind.

"Translucent Children" by [ Our Two Faces ]

Looking down the Park Place road seeing the translucent children play, and though I know I can never rejoin them I do not hold contempt or dismay.

Slowly I walk the sticky black of the paved road, in my suit and tie, watching with a smile the children play and rhyme.

A White picket fence stuck in the ground blocks my way, no longer able to open their doors as they slowly fade.
but the faded children see me and my exposed heart, taking my hand a guiding me to their playmart

Taking my hand and guiding me in, fresh cut grass between my feet, and I run and run and run some more under the rhythmic sun's beat.

Never again to feel the joy of innocents as I lay on the fresh cut grass and stare up and up into the clear blue sky, glad I had this one final task.

"Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, dedicated to my dear friend Jennifer" by [ Sheona ]

This poem was loosely inspired by a poem of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe. When I was growing up, I would spend my days sitting on the grass next to a small river near my house. Throughout all the years, that was one of the few things that seemed to remain constant...alt hough, technically, you never see the same river twice. The water you once saw is long gone. So it's a poem about constants and change (and loss).

Behold the peaceful waters by,
As ephemeral as the hour.
Bringing bygone memory nigh
As it follows life's meandering course.
Through the glass I see my source -
A source that shall devour.

Tearstained is the silky stream,
The looking-glass mirrored o'er.
In the reflection afeared face screams.
Crystal ripplets blue as sky
In which reflections I may spy
Yield haunting wail from times of yore.

My frosty river beneath bridge sweeps,
An emblem of youth's beauty lost.
Mother Nature weakly weeps
For that which is gone forever.
Summer sun will return never,
The fringes laced with frost.

"Forever Waiting, Forever Watching" by [ Amos the Flame ], check out Poetic Junk.

Time to the blazing dawn,
Dusk to the comming moon,
Past, present, future, ever growing on,
The seasons brewing June.
Forever waiting, forever watching.

Hazy mourning, drowning to the evening light,
Before another day,
Morn to morn, night to night,
From evershine to grey.
Forever Waiting, forever watching.

Ever young, still ever growing,
A vision of the world,
Alwys changing, never knowing,
What next to be unfurled.
Forever waiting forever watching.

Yet still an aspect, a memory of haunting.

"The Coming Days" by [ blackenedrose* ]

The Coming Days

Hope is transient. Dreams are unwavering...

With each passing page—
Calendar's grow.
From bitter cold—to muddy dreams,
From budding love—to frozen streams.
But what lies beneath the surface?
Fish still swim and the water runs smooth,
The first three inches are what seems real,
But what lies beneath?

"The Wait" by [ shadow_of_life ], check out ShadowLife

Why do the ruins feel so sad?
For what their heart of stone is crying?
And even when they bath in light
Forever they are not enlightened ...

For what era are they yearning?
What ancient people made them lonely?
They look as if they're deeply starving
For life in past, but endless glory.

The castles die along with people
And time devours them with flowers
And all they leave is decent feeling
Of high unreal castle towers

Abounded ruins - slowly rotting
If stone could rot in hungry shadows
Their grace is carved by years floating
Which rest in this forgotten castle

This solitude has no salvation
To fall in love with your past days
When even stonehearts were burnt in passion
And who are now to fade away

So still they wait and clad in shadows
For ones who are to be no more
Forever they are not enlightened
For life in past, but endless glory...

"Loneliness" by [ Aidan Ryuko ], check out

slowly the leafs fall down the trees,
just like the hope falls away in my heart,
increasing hurt,
tearing me apart,

first the autumn,
the season of rain,
the season, of losing hope,
increasing pain,

after the leafs have fallen down,
and autumn is passed,
my hope will be gone,
and be frozen at last,

when the winter arrives,
my heart turns into ice,

happy snow people,
cozy.. warm.. and nice..

except for me,
I'm alone,
just like..

the frozen mans of ice.

-
dedicated to all snowmen out there on christmas eve,

note: this poem is written from recalled memories, i am not lonely these days because if got people around me.. the poem is still written with my own feelings though.

"Spring of the Ice Queen" by [ shadow_of_life ], check out ShadowLife

It's warm, it's blooming, it is sunshine
And yet it chills me deep inside
It lasts an instant and a lifetime
It gives you wings, but you can't fly

This springtime doesn't make me happy
It's like it's distant and obscure
It's as if I have something lacking
And I am stranger in this world

Why do I seek these frozen castles
That winter builds from trees and snow
Where ebery single piece is flashing
Like guiding light you never followed

I fear the winds of change in spring
They melt the crystals of our feelings
I hope for place with no such winds
Where love is sylent crystal winter

I long for fragile lovely gardens
Where you see only black and white
And black is our secret darkness
And white is light within our hearts

That's why this spring is so confusing
And I feel fear when you're to leave me
And silence is just killed by music
And ice when melting, looks like bleeding

You kill my world, oh, time of living!
Your flowers perce my screaming flesh!
My time of life was just in winter!
This life from you for me is death ...
