My entry in the Halloween Poetry Competition, 2005:

"Time To Fright and Shine!"

             - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The clock has struck the time of doom.
No more seconds, so grab your broom!
The moon has risen high in the sky.
The ghosts, the goblins and witches will fly.
The spirits have gathered amongst the graves.
The witches are chanting to raise the knaves.
The air is filled with screams and moans.
The skeletal band rattles their bones.
As the owls hoot and the wolves howl,
The evil and dark are on the prowl.
Searching for souls to steal, possess,
Tasting the blood they're about to access.
The hunt will peek in the depth of the night.
Purging their thirst and hunger with fright.
The moon, though brilliant, is dauntless, benign.
Affords the fright to rise and shine!

My entry in the Halloween Art Competition, 2006
...When I was a kid, we had some woods close to our house. I loved to play in them by day, but at night, you couldn't get me anywhere near them, for I thought that that was where the ghosts, demons & spirits were summoned to start their nightly prowling! This is that summons of things that go bump in the night!
...Now the poem that goes with, that I've entered in the Halloween Poetry Competition, minus the last line you see here, 'cause the last line made it 36 and the contest only allows 35!

A Spirit Summons!

             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
             Stirring, stirring...
             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Dellaroo stands, smiling over her pot,
Stirring up a potion, bubbling hot.
             "Come one, come all!
It's time for a spiritual ball!"
She spews forth a chant, repeated in three
She dances with joy, tickled with glee.
As the vapors rise, forms appear.
Her summons' been heard, far and near.
A wicked grin creeps across her face,
An assortment of spirits all over the place.
             "Spirits come forth! Arise! Arise!
Come! Come! Reveal thyselves before my eyes!
             Ghosts! Ghosts! Condense your matter.
Your chains create a melodic clatter.
             Goblins and ghouls, conspire, contrive.
The hunt begins when you all arrive."
             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
             Stirring, stirring...
             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Dellaroo looks around, her heart aglee.
Piercing the veil of darkness she doth see.
So many eyes of perilous demise,
Each in their own unique disguise.
"Is everyone here? Practice your gloom.
Perfect your craft. The darkness consume.
The instillment of fright has begun
As this haunting commences, bring on the fun!"
             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
             Stirring, stirring...
             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
"The hour of twelve, ready, set, prowl.
The wolves, awakened, are starting to howl.
Go forth now. Frighten your best.
Many souls await you in your quest.
Utilize those closets and beds, underneath,
Perfect places to rattle and chatter your teeth.
Add some wailing moans, but don't call it quits,
'Til you've scared all the kids, out of their wits!"

             Stirring, stirring...

My second entry in the Halloween Poetry Competition, 2006:

Nightly Demons!

             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Most days are uneventful, some would call them boring.
I guess because my haunters are so busy snoring.
All I know is that each night as the darkness looms,
I go throughout my parents' house to each and all the rooms.
Checking every corner, as a dark, inviting host,
Ruling out all chances to welcome any ghost.
Once my suspicions are settled, visibly erased,
I tell myself, my fear has really been misplaced.
             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Once in my room, before I turn out my light,
I inspect all objects that's within my sight.
My slippers I place just along my bed.
The robe is lightly plopped on the post beside my head.
The drapes are hanging still over windows tightly locked.
If my parents knew my thoughts, I'm sure that they'd be shocked.
My closet is so neat, everything in place.
Why, I can't believe myself that I have extra space!
Okay! I'm ready. My cozy bed invites.
I glance around once more and clap off all the lights.
As my dreams commence, the creepies waltz on in,
And when I wake at morning, I'm tired with no win.
             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
I look around my room aghast at what I see.
Gee, I could have sworn... My! This just can't be!
My slippers are way across the room.
My robe is in my closet hanging from the broom.
The drapes are pulled aside, every drawer has been cracked.
Boy! I must be losing it! My brain is truly whacked!
My books are on the floor all in disarray.
Did I really want to waken to all of this dismay?
I scramble to straighten up such a major mess.
My mom is calling me as I slip into my dress.
"Coming", I holler with a final glance.
Tonight there'll be nothing I will leave to chance.
             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Although I'm not quite sure why I'm thinking in this way,
Because I know the same awaits me today and everyday!

My entry in the Halloween Art Competition, 2007, and...
...my entry in the Halloween Poetry Competition, 2007:

"Three Halloween Guests"

             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
             The Halloween bash has begun.
Most of the guests have come.
There's ghosts and goblins, witches, too.
They've gathered around their boiling brew.
             Somehow, the party seems incomplete,
Even though, there's a variety of feet.
             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Then, the door opens and there stands three.
Three unknowns, who might they be?
             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The first is dressed in fleece, a sheep.
Silenced are all, not even a peep.
The second walks in, a pig for sure.
Grunts escape, as he leans on the door.
The third, the last, wearing a crimson hood,
Everyone's eying, in the entrance he stood.
             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The party resumes with ghoulish fun.
Some tricks are played on more than one.
No one's concerned with the three let in,
Nor to the fact, they're not even of kin.
             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The striking of twelve has long since passed.
The brew is cold, the scene aghast.
Where are the guests? No laughing or screaming,
'Cept the three, sleeping and dreaming,
With paws on their bellies, they're snoring loud,
They've really enjoyed, eating the crowd!

Just a Halloween poem I wrote:

"Birth Of A Jack O' Lantern"

             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The leaves are changing, losing their green appeal.
The colors are appearing, embracing an autumn feel.
As Old Man Winter's breath leaves traces in the breeze,
It's time to pick the apples from the fruit laden trees.
The vines in the pumpkin patch, frostbitten, burnt from the sun,
With gourds exposed, waiting, to be chosen by someone,
To carve a face, happy, sad, or scary,
To adorn an entrance for all goblins to be wary.

...And another Halloween poem I wrote:

"It's Halloween!"

             ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
             So, yes, it's Halloween,
When ghoulish and scary sights are seen.
The goblins and ghosts will be all aroun',
For this is the night they paint the town.
Inside the houses of each family and friend,
Candy awaits as trick or treaters descend
In costumes that range from cute to scary.
The pumpkins are carved, warning the wary.
We each have the daunting task
To guess who hides behind each mask.
Just remember, for it to be fun,
             Safety is foremost with everyone!
