Cora Fields
So named as this region is the last reservation for wild Cora in the entire world. This free range of birds is actually quite peaceful, as the Cora here have few predators to contend with and is protected by Yeoman rangers from poachers or intruding monsters. Coras are naturally peaceful to human-sized creatures, though if threatened or harmed they can cause terrible and even lethal wounds to aggressors.
Beowulf stepped out onto the plains and gazed around. "Think we will find anything here?" he asked his squire companion.
Beowulf caught a glimpse of Blaze out in the field trying to lift a kill into the air. It seemed like a rabbit or other rodent of sufficient size, too big for Blaze to carry into the air at least.
Üsserhadd rubbed his hairy chin while thinking of an answer. "Cora run these fields all the time, so we might run into a few wild ones." he replied, "Of course they're protected animals so peaceful encounters are better than going out to tackle one for food."
"Perhaps Blaze has already begun gathering our food for us,"
Beowulf said with a smile, pointing out the falcon in the distance. "He seems to be struggling, let us make our way to him and see what was caught." He began to march steadily to the falcon, his partisan still in hand in case they were attacked.
Arming himself as well,
Üsserhadd roamed out after Beowulf. There were probably several Coras around, and a mean buck among them might find them as invaders into their territory.
Once Beowulf closed in near to Blaze, the falcon dropped the kill and glided over to the hunter's outstretched arm. Beowulf saw the kill, and it was a huge muskrat. Much like a beaver with a rat's tail, the rodent was enormous but very dead. Blaze did his job well, unfortunately none could tell if the scent had not called the interests of other predators to this area.
"This might not be enough for our troupe,"
Beowulf said, holding up the muskrat. "But he did a good job nonetheless. Perhaps we could use this as bait for something larger?" He looked at Usserhad, for input on the idea.
"Not here, top predator is the Cora."
Üsserhadd replied, and pointed back to the forest, "Boars are omnivorous, but there is no guarrantee we wouldn't attract a Basilisk, wolves, or bear instead." The squire scratched his head and calculated the muskrat's size, "It might feed three humans, or one troll."
"What say you then? Return to the woodlands and bait? Praying for something more? Or try to catch something else for the troll?"
Beowulf asked his companion after a pause.
"We have food, don't know why you're so insistant on catching something bigger. I swear, you hunters..."
Üsserhadd continued to praddle on as he began walking back to the
Fellrise Woodlands.
"'Tis more efficient on reserving our stores of course,"
Beowulf shouted before running off after the squire into the
Fellrise Woodlands.
