Battle Royale Chapter 1

Kage finally put her game down after an hour of play. "Two more levels and I'm done." She grinned at her brother.

Sei groaned, "Aww, c'mon Kage-chan, you just got that game yesterday."

"Can I help it if I'm good?"

"Save some glory for the rest of us." Sei said, then he proceeded to tickle her. "Say it." He said in response to her shrieks of laughter.

"Never." Kage managed to get out.

"Keep it down back there." Came the voice of their teacher. Mr. Riharu. Sei and Kage stopped their play suddenly and grinned at each other.

"Aww man," groaned Riku Harada," If her only skirt had just slid a few more inches higher..." Kage promptly flipped him off. This playful exchange continued on into the night.

Seiketsu became aware of something wrong when he noticed his sister was asleep. She never fell asleep before midnight. Sei was also starting to feel tired, he glanced at his watch it was only ten o'clock. Shouldn't we be doing something crazy? He thought Hazily. We should be singing stupid songs or Kei and Kita should be verbally attacking each other. A glance around the bus showed that everyone was asleep or close to it.

Right before Sei himself passed out he saw the bus driver. He was wearing an oxygen mask. The kind that he'd seen his Father use when he's entered a clean room. This one was silver and green though, and the oxygen tank was on the ground, when it should have been on his back. Only one coherant thought got through Sei's mind before he passed out...Oh crap.

The bus driver glanced back a second time. The kid who was moving about before had collasped. His body was twisted in, what looked like, an uncomfortable postion, his head was on the lap of the girl next to him. poor kids, the bus driver thought. He knew what was going to happen to the children that graced his humble bus, he wanted to stop the killing before it began, but he couldn't escape. The Republic of Greater East Asia would kill him long before he could get the children anywhere safe. He would have made a good effort to save the children, but he knew it was impossible, and he didn't want to risk his own life.

The oldest of this class couldn't have been more than fourteen years old. He wasn't even considered an adult in this world, yet when his parents signed the permission slip allowing him to come on this 'camping trip' they had also, unwittingly, signed his death warrant. They would sign their own if they tried to protest against the Republic's actions. It was a win lose situation. The Republic would win, while the parents would lose. It happened every year.

The lone bus, containing fourty-two Junior High School students turned off onto a road marked 'Goverment Base, No Trespassing'. Two soldiers stopped him and I.Ded him, a third checked the people inside of the bus. None of them stirred when he walked through the isle. He nodded to his comrades and they waved the bus through the gates...
