Chapter Two: Danger Danger

Emilina nodded and sat down in the clearing using her bag to lean up against the tree. "You best get some sleep." She leaned back against the tree, her eyes wandering across the scenrey.

Rebecca Stood and entered the clearing but sat opposite from them, her greyish green eyes searching the surrounding forest around them. "It's alright, I prefer being alone." she replied, jumping slightly hearing an animal nearby. Why us? What's so special about the four of us? she wondered as she put her sketchbook away.

Sitting down onto the cold hard ground, Jacky slipped her sweater on and zipped it up. Keeping her bag close to her she laid down facing the sky. "I'm here when you guys decide to wake me up..." her voice rang out into the new silence.

Emilina sighed and looked around, she was to take first watch, now to stay awake. She played with a little thin switch.

Chris rolled around unable to fall asleep as his mind ran through several things wondering why they were here, why it was only them. Or if it was actually only them.

Emilina ran her hands through her hair and sighed. She was just as curious as everyone else.

He leaned down to look at them, he was set up in a tree about ten yards away. His foot slipped which brought him to the ground, hitting every branch down, he hit the ground with a loud thud.

Natali, A girl standing at about 5'7" with a somewhat thin frame sipped her Chai drink. She held it delicatly between her hands and blew on it. The drink was hot, she was cold. Her attention turned to her heater, which was fussing. She bent down, and turned it up. She couldn't work if her body was cold. Her eyes studied the intricate work infront of her that she had worked on the day before. Then to palates of paint, and then canvases; Some used. Some not. Her own special work shop, where she was safe. She hooked her long, dark hair behind her ears and took another drink of her chai. The heater started to buzz behind her again. With a sigh, she turned to smack it on the side to make it stop. As she turned, a bright orb of light danced above the heater about five feet. She looked at it oddly, and felt herself get sucked in.

She felt herself fall through darkness. A now dry area, differing greatly from the rain at her home in Washington. A loud thud, and she was on the ground, moaning from the pressure of her body. She moved to feel her rib cage, in hope of it not being broken. When she opened her eyes, she was looking at another girl. She coughed. "Hi," She said faintly.

Emilina felt someone hit her, the other persons elbow was in her side. She opened her eyes to look at the brown haired girl. She was in pain but more worried about the other person. "Are you okay?" She helped her get up, and stood up next to the girl up, she touched her side, which was still in pain. "How did you get here?" She was confused because she thought that they were the only ones. "My name is Emilina, Em for short."

"My name is Natali." Natali said, brushing herself off. "Are you alright? I'm so sorry." She watched the other girl hold her side. "I um.. was turning up my heater in my art studio and there was this.. orb of light." She shook her head, knowing she must sound like a crazy person. She touched her back. "That fall hurt."

"I'm good.. I'm a gym instructor.. I know how to deal with pains.. you however.. might not. Let me look." She stepped toward her. "And you don't sound insane, it happened to all of us." She motioned toward the small clearing covered by trees.

Natali nodded faintly. "I've had my share of physical pains." She said, lightly, with a tone of rememberance. "My side is fine.. But.. where are we? Are the others your friends?"

Em nodded and looked at her again. "We don't know.. but there are other people here, they tried to attack us earlier. They are all we've got here."

"Oh." Natali said, looking off to the distance to see the others. "Damnit, I had a great idea for my canvas too." She bit at her lips. "Do you have any... plans of action?"

Em looked down then back up. "Survive tonight first of all.. everyone get some sleep. It's time for someone elses watch.. I have to wake them up." She lead her to the small clearing and kneeled next to Chris. "Chris?" She shook him slightly. "Chris.. it's your turn." She yawned and sat down on her bottom and then laid back on her gym bag she had brought. "I suggest you get some sleep, then we can talk in the morning about all this." She yawned again.

"Alright." Natali said, removing her own bag from her shoulder. She leaned against a tree. She wasn't very tired, since it would only be around 5:30 p.m. at her house right now. She sighed, and looked around before closing her eyes tight. She tried to force herself asleep.

Chris rolled over and saw Natali who seemed to be asleep or close to at least, then looked up at Em, "who's that" he said mouthing the words.

Natali opened an eye and noticed Chris. She smiled, and opened her eyes completely. "I'm Natali." She whispered.

Em touched Chris's shoulder protectively, as she heard Natali tell him her name. She seemed to like Chris, he seemed to have a nice head on her shoulders, unlike most of the guys she had met, and she had went through a lot. "She says she is like us, just got pulled her, I told her to get some sleep, but I think she is a bit too shocked for all that." She smiled warmly and laid back next to him, she glanced at Natali then Chris. "I'll take the next watch, no big deal, I'll be fine."

Natali noticed the protective ways of Emilena, and thought Wow. Like him much? I wasn't even meaning that. She shook her head. "Just relax, I'll take the watch. It was only around five thrity before I came here anyway. I'm not tired at all." She watched the couple lay down. I just said my name. That was really weird.

Chris smiled back at Natali, "well I'm Chris, now sorry but go to sleep you look like you could use it, we have a long day ahead of us." Chris got up and sat by the fire, pulling out his notebook and pencil starting to jote down more into his story.

Em looked at Natali and her lips formed a thin line. "I think it's best if he takes watch." She hadn't meant it like that, he seemed like a nice guy friend. "I'll get some sleep. Keep her in your sights at all times, and let the next person know too, make sure they pass it on." She closed her eyes and rested slightly, letting her guard down.

Chris almost ignored what she said as he had already endulged into his writing, "ya I'll be sure to do that"

Natali shook her head, and leaned back. I would have taken the watch. I'm not tired. She closed her eyes, though, and tried to sleep. But she couldnt. They all seem so comfortable...

Chris read back in his story slightly to check on things. "The four of them sat close to each other for warmth; slowly going to sleep. "We should keep watch just incase" Jeff spoke up, being the only male around he felt outta place." Reading furthur ahead he saw the introduction of another character, a character who looked and acted even had the same name as Natali. Slamming the notebook shut he threw it at least ten feet away scared to continue on.

Em fell asleep, and jerked awake as she heard something rustle in the bushes, she sat up looking at Chris, who was looking toward the bushes. "What was that?"

Natali's eyes opened. "Is everything okay?" She asked, watching everyone.

Chris looked over at them, "Yea, everythings fine, sorry was my fault"

"Rightyo.." She said softly looking at Chris for a moment then closed her eyes tightly, forcing herself to get some sleep. She seemed to trust them, all except Natali, the newbie of them, why hadn't she been pulled here the same time they had?

He had fallen from the tree a few minutes before the new arrival making a loud thud, no one had heard him, thank god. He moved closer, rustling some bushes as he moved her sat down and enjoyed his view of the few people, especially the blonde and the new comer, maybe they were just like him. Lost.

Chris quickly jolted his head over to where the noise had come from. "Who's there?"

Kurtis drummed his fingers on his elbow then looked up as the man spoke, he stood up alertly. He pushed his way through the bushes and walked near the clearing, he cleared his throat and looked at Chris. "My name is Kurtis." He looked over at the blonde, just now realizing that he knew her. She was his ex-fiance.. until he was stuck here. She had meant do much to him and now seeing her was overwhelming. "Thats Emilina, isn't it?" He looked over at Chris. "I've been here for eleven months, six days, seven hours, and twenty-six seconds." He sighed and walked into the clearing, sitting next to Emilina, he ran his hand across her cheek, sending shutters through him.

"Hey woah, back away from her, you're starting to sound a little creepy especially if you can keep count of even seconds while running away from whatever is out there." Chris looked at Emilina and at Kurtis hoping that she was okay as he had nothing to fend him off with but his own hands.

Emilina eyes fluttered open as she heard Chris, she sat up quickly looking at Kurtis. "... it can't be.. how.. did.. why?" She seemed really confused now. She glanced over at Chris and made her way over to his side. "I know him.. but he was reported missing almost two years ago. The police couldn't find him, I couldn't find him."

He glanced at Chris. "You get like that after being here, not knowing the time, you learn... to adapt."

Chris looked at Emilina still worried for her protection, two years in a place like this could probably change a man, but said nothing

Emilina watched Kurtis from behind Chris, she wanted to keep her distance. "And this place could get to you.. why are you th only one left? Four other people disappeared the same way, and you are the only one to show up now?" She slid her arm around Chris's, ready to pull him with her to run, she would try to warn the others. "All of you! Get up! Now!" She yelled to the others sleeping. She looked back to Kurtis. "Stay away from us."

Kurtis stepped forward, a bit hurt. "I haven't changed, I still love you Emmie. I want to be with you still, after all this time.. and what do you mean, about what you said earlier, I haven't been gone two years, I have only been gone for almost a year." He was confused.. he knew it wasn't that long. He didn't want to tell them about the others, they were all stupid, thought staying away from him would save them, he survived, them villiagers got to the others.. killed them.. ate them. He wouldn't tell them though. He shuffled his feet some. "Come with me Emmie.. I know you want to... or is it him stopping you? Your little lover boy?" His facial expression changed to anger. "Why so protective Chris?"

Emilina looked over at the others, getting worried. Why weren't they waking up? She looked back at Kurtis. "Leave him alone, he did nothing to you. Just leave." She stayed behind Chris, now very scared that Kurtis would do something he would later regret.. one reason why she was planning to talk him into anger management.. he hit her when he was angry.. but then she had loved him.. this was now. "YOU GUYS! GET UP!" She yelled directly at the others.

Chris looked up at him with a glare in his eyes, "I protect her because we came here together, and she asked you to leave, so leave" Chris was calm, trying to at least act tough even if he could or couldn't beat win against this guy, he had to protect Emilina.

"You.. you like her?" His face went blank. "She is smart, has a sense of humor, and has the body of a goddess, why wouldn't you want her? Be honest. For me. And for her." He glanced at Emlina. "I'm sorry. I haven't seen another human.. that was still breathing in a while.. and I don't want to be alone again. I'm sorry. I'll leave if you want, but to be honest, you have a better chance with me then without. I have survived for a while now, I know their living patterns." He looked down sighing.

"Waht exactly happened to the others?" She glanced at Chris then looked back to Kurtis. "How do we know we can trust you? How do we know that you won't kill us, and that you didn't kill those other people?"

Chris was still glaring at Kurits, "That's excatly what I was wondering, what happened to them that you survived and they didn't?"

"Avoiding tyhe question Chris.. answer it.. it's pathetically simple." He glanced at Em then looked down. "The villiagers are cannibals.. they ate them.. after the ceremony. The others wouldn't listen.. I told them the river was safer.. they didn't listen. The villiagers can't stand water.. they won't go near it." He looked back up to Chris. "Now you want to answer the question?"

Emilina looked at Kurtis is shock. "Cannibals... ceremony.. river.. dead.." She had to let it process for a moment.

"Im not the one on trial here you are" Chris shot back quickly, "So how is it that you knew that they didn't like water but everyone else didn't?"

"They attacked us.. I ran into the river, I swam across as fast as possible, they three spears at me, and knicked me on the arm." He pulled a dark dirty band from his arm, part of his shirt more than likely, it covered a small gash. "That was when we split up. I found two of them again, but they wouldn't listen to me. I tried to save them." He looked down, his eyes starting to water. "Lily.. she didn't have to die.. neither did Ricardo.. or Rachel.. or Marco.. if they had followed me..." He trailed off then snapped his head up looking directly at Chris. "Now it's your turn, do you have something for her or not? Why protect someone you have known for a few hours?"

Emilina looked over at Chris then at Kurtis. "The others?"

"Why woudln't I protect her, or any of them, there not just some random person in the city, there the only people I know here that don't seem clinically insane, I'll protect them to the best of my abilities" Chris was starting to get angry with Kurtis

Kurtis glanced over at the others. "Funny, how you don't seem too concerned with the others and they are asleep, but you are concerned about the one that is awake and able to leave." He sat back down. "We need to get closer, and soon, they hunt soon." He looked up in the trees, a worried look on his face. He pulled out a small twig and blew into one side, a small thin piece of wood flew out, disappearing into the trees, a few seconds later, a body feel from the tree, hitting the ground right in front of Chris and Em with a loud sickening thud. Kurtis looked up, concern covered his face. "Wake them up, he is just the beginning, we have to cross the river, and now." He walked toward Emilina, grabbing her arm she pulled him to his side. "I can't lose you again, you mean too much to me.. even after all this time." He glanced at the figure lying on the ground, half bear and half human, they would kill the bears and use their heads as a mask.

Emilina was jerked from Chris's side, she couldn't grasp his arm, she was forced to collid with Kurtis some, not making him lose his balance. She glanced at Chris a bit frightened then looked to Kurtis. 'Easy Kurtis. Just take it easy. We can do this. Just relax. Remember back when we went to the couselor? Do what he said.. count to ten and breather in two counts." He glanced toward Chris, Kurtis did have a point, Chris didn't worry about the ones who were vulnerable.. just the one that could get away.. the one in the best shape.

Chris ignored Kurtis once again, going over to the others shaking them all to wake up. "Come on we gotta get going, NOW!"

Kurtis nodded, and held on to Emilina, he started pulling her away from everyone else. "They are near, get the others and come on." He let her go then waited.

Em nodded a bit confused, she ran back to the clearing, tugging on Rebecca and Natali. "Get up!" She looked at Jacky, and walked over shaking her. "Come on." She glanced at Chris. "He had survived, and he killed that.. that thing.. we need to follow him." She was worried, but he had survived, he knew how by now.

Chris nodded "Yea, I'll follow him..." For Now he though to himself. "Come on guys wake up we gotta go"

Natali woke up slowly. "I had finally fallen asleep... what happened?" She stood up, and noticed everyone moving around quicky. "Something's wrong.. isnt it?"

"We gotta wake up the other's we will fill you in later" As Chris ran over to wake up another person

Natali went to wake up the others. "Common guys, lets go." She shook them to try and wake them.

Jacky's eyes snapped open as soon as she felt someone touch her. "What's going on?" she asked, her voice alittle slurred from the sleep.

"Sad to say, but I have no idea." Natali said, pulling her up. "But everyone's freaking out, so I think we need to get out of here." Natali stood back after helping her up. "Get your stuff, and help wake up the others."

Jacky nodded as she sat up and grabbed her bag and slung it over her shoulder. Walking over to someone on the ground and shaking them awake gently.

One of the beasted looking men jumped out of the tree, landing on the ground next to Rebecca, he grabbed her, lugging her over his shoulder. He growled like a huge bear, snarling at the others. He vanished into the shadows, Rebecca in tow. She still didn't wake, for she was already dead. The posion needle was in her spine, he had hit her with it the first time he had seen them. The posion works slowly, but kills at the end.

Emilina jumped back as the beast picked up Rebecca. "No!" She took a swing at him, but he had vanished, without a trace. She grabbed Jacky's hand quickly, jerking her from the clearing. "Natali! Chris! NOW!" She started running after Kurtis, after a few minutes they were at the river's edge.

Kurtis stopped at the rivers edge and glanced back to see Em and the others close behind. "We have to cross! Now!" He dived in, swimming in long quick strokes across, he pulled himself up on the bank and turned around, ready to help everyone else up.

Emilina dived in as she seen him, she swam across as fast as she could, pulling herself up the edge of the river, she sat on the ground, huffing anf puffing. "Come on!"

Natali took the next dive in, without thinking of the fact that her cloths were now going to be wet and there was the possible fact that freezing to death might be in store. She swam quickly, and reached the other side and pulled herself up, ready to wait for the others.

Jacky followed in tow, shocked by what she had just seen. The current ripped at her as she made her way.

Kurtis grabbed Jacky's arms as she neared, pulling her up to him, he didn't let go right away. After a few seconds he released her, and looked across the river at Chris. "Hurry up! It's not that hard!" He glanced at the three women and forced a weak smile. "I will explain everything to you two when we make it to the house." He pointed at Jacky and Rebecca. "I can also give everyone some more clothes.. that are dry."

Chris jumped in the river swimming across with ease, forgetting that he left his notebook back at the camp.

Em looked at Kurtis for a minute then glanced over at Chris as he neared the edge. She held her hand out to help him up. "Here. Grab my hand."

Natali shook out her hair a little bit, so it wasn't as heavy. "Sound's like a plan." She said, to the newer Man she did not yet know. She bit at her lips as she tried to get water out of her shoes. She watched Em pull Chris up. Thank god everyone made it... She stopped herself. I barely know these people.. She looked at them each in turn, before going back to squeezing her hair.

Heaving her heavy body out of the river, Jacky plopped down onto her butt as she began to wring out her hair. Peeling her sweater off of her arms and shoulders she began to extract the water from that as well. "What...the hell...was that...THING?!" she questioned as she shot up and looked at the others, as if they would have all the answers.

Kurtis watched Chris, then looked over at Em, her hair was wet and sticking to her face, her black top sticking to her as well. She was different now, since the last time he had seen her. He started toward the forest. "Follow me." He lead them to a overgrown area, he got on his hands and knees and started to crawl, then he stood up, and climbed up a tall ladder, that disappeared in the tree limbs above. "Climb."

Natali followed Kurtis, and looked up into the tree's. She climbed up, moving further into the tree's with him. "You.. live here?"

Jacky followed with her sweater hanging over her shoulder and her bag slung over the other.

When Natali got to the top, she pulled off her sweater and rung it out off to the side of the ladder so the water wouldn't hit anyone. "No reason to be wearing that." She started to ring out her tighter black t-shirt with "DC" written on it.

Emilina followed them. She reached the top and looked down, waiting for Chris.

Kurtis nodded some to Natali. "I do." He walked over to the huge wooden box, made of thin branches, pulling out layers of clothing. "It gets really hot here, so you want something thinner, when there was more of us, we made these, they cover what needs to be covered. Put them on, it helps to blend it too."

Emilina walked in the room and took a handle of clothing from him, dividing it between the three of them. She went behind the small wall that divided the room from a bedroom to a small kitchen/frontroom. She changed and came back out wearing the cloth. It tied around her neck and her back, covering her breast, the other was sort of like a skirt, it wraped around her thighs to cover herself, sort of like a skort, and hung loosely.

Natali also grabbed a couple things to wear, and went behind the screen also. She put on the small shirt, which covered her chest and tied over her shoulders and in the back. The next piece of clothing was a skirt, which layed out to be a long rectangle, and was short on one side and longer on the other. She carried her cloths back out. "Wow.. these are revealing." She laughed to herself.

"Tell me about it." She smiled some and sat down, both her legs to one side. Em glanced over at Kurtis. "Want to tell them what you told us?"

Kurtis nodded some glancing up at Natali slightly, he smiled some. "Sorry about that. Lily was a stripper, she came up with them, that one covers the most." He laughed some. "It seems like it only happened a few days ago, but to actually believe it has been almost two years. I was the only one to survive.. that river saved me, it led me here. Those.. those.. beasts are terrified of water. I don't know why.. but they are.. they attacked us.. at the same spot you were at. Everyone ran. Lily followed me, towards the river, she almost made it when one hit her with a needle, she survived the needle, made it across and we ran here. I buried her two hours later, the needle had posion on it, killed her. Ricardo ran the way we had came, I heard him scream, when Lily was alive, she went with me to find something to eat, we found his head, that was it, on a spear. Marco had been hit too, but earlier, died in his sleep, like your friend Rebecca. And Rachel ran towards the villiage, we seen her from the other side of the river, a huge groups attacked her and tore her apart. Eating her.. they are cannibals." He looked down. "We thought all this was some kind of a scam, from the government, we thought terribly wrong." Her looked up. "I know we are safe here, we can move some of the items to the other tree house, a bridge leads to it, he motioned toward the porch surrounding the small tree house. "You women can stay there if you like."

Emilina looked to the others, still in shock from what he had told them, and she had been the first to find this out. So much to process, too much to handle. "I think we all will stay over there, except you." She looked at Kurtis. "Like I said before.. places like this can change a person."

Jacky sat there, not really wanting to change into the revealing clothing. She looked at Kurtis in shock and horror at the information.

Chris changed into a new shirt and some shorts, he wanted to yell at Kurtis ask about why he couldnt protect the others and why he thinks he can protect them, but he knew he shouldn't not now. "I'm going over here with them" Then he followed Emilina

Kurtis nodded slightly. "Very well. I will be here if you need me."

Emilina stood up and moved toward the porch around the tree house. "I can make it a less revealing if you want Jacky." She had noticed her uneasiness. She walked around the edge to the small bridge that led to the other tree house. She started across it and entered the much smaller tree house. It was only five by five.. half the size of the other. She went over to the far side of the room picking up hay, she took some and spread it around, so that the floor would be a bit more comfortable. She sat down. "Maybe we should talk, about all that has happened."

Jacky smiled at Emilina. "That would be great, thank you." she replied. Walking over to the corner she placed her bag and sweater down. Checking her cell phone it still had the count down. One and a half days... she thought as she closed it silently and put it back in her bag. She then proceeded to sit down and make herself comfortable against the wall.

Emilina examined the clothes, then grabbed her sweater. "I'm using this.. you don't mind do you?"

Chris laid down next to them, completely silent as he was still trying to figure out for himself what was going on, with these creatures, them him book. "MY BOOK!" He suddenly lept up realising he forgot it on the other side. "damnit"

Emilina shook her head. "There is no way in hell we are going back there."

Jacky shook her head in reply to Emilina's question. "No way in hell are you getting me across that river again."

"Especially after we just got dry." Natali said. She was still slightly uncomfortable with the clothing, but she was sure it would pass. "So, what now?"

"Damnit that book had my life...and possibly ours in it" Chris said trying to say it to himself but failed horribly at that.

After thinking for a moment, Natali stood. "Let's go get it then. It might have clues for the future." She waited for him to stand in a form of following.

"but...we can't they'll kill us" Chris had a shocked look on his face for a second when she mentioned going back

"What's life without chances?" Natali asked, simply. "If you look at it, all we'd have to do is cross the river, run over, get your book, and come back. I'll be your cover. I'll watch out to see if anyone comes. We don't hesitate. Just run, grab, swim, and Bam. We have it." She had run in track for a year, she could do it.

"Its not taht simple its just a normal notebook water destroys those, everything in there could be lost neways. But, lets talk about this in the morning" Chris sighed at the possible lose of his book

"Throw it." Natali said, measuring the distance in her head. "If you threw it far enough, and someone was able to catch it...." It was being drawn in her head, the plan."It could work."

"Well...alright maybe but not till morning at least" Chris looked as it seemed the sun would be coming up in a bit neways

Natali eyed him. "I'm just trying to help." She moved over to a place where she would be somewhat away from the others. She had her sweatshirt in hand, and her other cloths. She put her sweatshirt over her knees, like she would of back home, so nothing would show. Back home...

Chris walked over and sat beside Natali "I'm sorry if I seem a little grouchy right now, its just...Kurtis, i don't know about him...but you're idea was great I'll think about it. Now try and get some rest" With that he got up and sat on the otherside of the room.

Emilina closed her eyes leaning against the wall, the handful of clothing in her hands, she had finished while they talked. She was really tired, as to she had stayed up for most of the time, while the others had rest. "We will try tomorrow, with Kurtis's help, he knows his way around."

"You all can get some sleep if you want. I'm still not very tired." Natali said, hoping they would just agree. I have to do something for them.

Chris was asleep before Natali even mentioned staying awake

Natali fussed around with her garnments for a minute, trying to keep busy. She ran her hands through her hair to try and get it to stay undreded. She sighed, and looked at all of them.

Jacky sat there and began to shiver slightly. She sighed and looked around. "You can sleep if you want, Natali..." she spoke softly as she pulled out her mp3 and turned it on.

"Nah. I'm good. I'm not much of a sleeper." Natali looked at her sweater. "Here, wear this. It's dry now."

Jacky smiled kindly. "Thank you." she replied as she took the sweater and put it on, and somehow she managed to get her shirt off while keeping the sweater on.

"You're welcome." Natali said. "These cloths are quite.. revealing." She suddenly longed for her art room. Her sanctuary. She bit at her lips. She would more than likely never see her room again, never go to another art opening, or drink Chai again. She sighed.

Emilina handed the garments to Natali, she had made them longer, and covered her more. She lay some in Jacky's lap as well, both were a bit worried about how much they revealed. "Here. Cover up some." She walked back next to Chris, two feet away, she fell asleep immediately, extremely tired, and exhausted.

Natali smiled. "I think I'm fine. I'm just going to wait tell something happens."

Jacky took the garments and nodded as she went over to a small partition in the room and changed quickly, coming out slowly she grabbed the dry sweater and put it on. She then proceeded to begin to hang all of the wet clothes that were laying around up to dry.

Natali thought for a moment, and went and put on the less revealing cloths, and sat back down.

She was still asleep, but the things around her physically would enter her dreams, the sounds anyway.

Chris woke up temporarily turned to his side, and saw how close Emilina was, but noticing that she was sleeping he said nothing just simply smiled and went back to sleep.

Emilina sat up suddenly, everything around her was spinning, she put her head in her hands. Her head was throbbing. She sat for a few moments, and leaned against the wall, breathing slowly.

Chris sat up immediatly as this happened right before he fell back asleep "You ok Elimina?" worried for her safety her rushed to her side.

Emilina breathed heavily. "I'll be okay." She glanced at him, and then looked down. "Just a nightmare."

Chris looked at her worried, "Calm down, like you said it was just a dream."

Emilina smiled weakly. "Just get some sleep, I'm fine."

Natali watched her. "Are you sure? You look as if someone ripped you to pieces."

She closed her eyes, still breathing heavily.. "I seen all of us die.. those beasts.. were attacking us. They killed Kurtis, and when we found them we started to freak."

"Hey." Natali said, moving closer to her. "Everythings going to be alright." She looked at Chris. "You said your book had all of us in it. It might beable to help us get through this. We need that book before the beasts get it."

Em nodded agreeing with Natali. "Yeah, it could help"

"Well, I'm going to go get it." Natali said, standing up. "I'll go there myself if no one else will."

Emilina started to stand up, but couldn't she was really dizzy. "You two go.. I'll watch Kurtis. Be careful. Please."

"Are you going to go with me, Chris?" Natali asked.

Jacky looked around at the others. "I'll go if you want..."

"Alright. We just need a plan." Natali said, starting to think. "Should we distract them, while someone else goes to grab it?"

Jacky thought about it for a moment. "I think that would be best. I could distract them...you could grab the notebook." she suggested.

"After I grab the notebook, you can run back, and get across the river. I'll throw the book across, you can catch it, then I'll be across." Natali said, "Sound good?"

Emilina looked at them both and nodded. "Just be quick on your feet."

Natali nodded. "We will be, but lets get this done." She started down the ladder.

Jacky nodded and followed Natali down the steps of the ladder. "Sounds like a plan."

Emilina stood slowly, and watched them climb down, she glanced over to the other treehouse, frowning slightly as she seen two figures in the window, but she couldn't make them out.

Natali looked at Jacky when she finnished climbing down. "I figure just making alot of noise will distract them enough. If you stay across the river, you wont get hurt." Natali started walking towards the river. "I'm going to swim across, when I'm in some cover, start making noise. They've got to be curious, you'd think. I'll run over, grab the notebook, come back, and toss it to you."

"But the camp is pretty far...if I'm distracting them at the river...then you won't be able to cross... I might be able to out run them if I know which way I'm going to get back to the river." Jacky spoke unsurely as she remembered that even though they reached the river quickly, they were running and someone knew their way back.

Emilina watched them, then climbed down. "I'll go with you."

"Are you sure? You haven't been feeling well." Natali looked at Jacky. "You're right. If you cross the river, and go over a little with me. Then distract. I used to run track, so I'll be really quick."

"We'll be alright...you don't need to come if you're not feeling well." Jacky responded as well as she looked across the river. "Then we should be fine. Two track runners." she smiled and looked at Emilina, waiting to see if she was really going to come.

"You were a track runner too?" Natali smiled, finally having something incommon with someone. "Let's do this. I'm full of endrinaline."

Emilina thought to herself, and grabbed both of them hugging them. "I know we haven't known each other long.. but be careful. Ok." She looked at them both. "I'll make sure Kurtis doesn't go anywhere." She headed back up the ladder, when she reached the top, she went across the thin bridge to his hut, oddly enough he was up. "Hello Kurtis... still awake I see."

Jacky nodded and watched Emilina climb back up into the tree house. "Alrighty...let's roll..." she spoke as she pulled off the sweater and dropped it to the ground. "Don't forget the path back..." she reminded Natali as she walked towards the river.

"I've got it stuck in my head." Natali said, remembering that she was still in.. revealing cloths. "Let's get this done so I can go back and get in my jeans." She laughed as she waded into the water.

Jacky laughed as she make her way onto the other side of the river and up onto the bank. Turning to watch Natali get out of the water she remained quiet as she looked around.

Natali shook out her hair lightly, and looked at Jacky. "Let's go." She started at a light run, making sure to not make alot of noise. She stepped lightly around leaves and branches.

Jacky nodded and followed making her steps as quiet as possible. Memorizing the way back and making sure she wouldn't get lost incase she ended up being chased.

"We're close to that clearing now. I think it would be good to start the distraction." Natali whispered. "I am going to go grab the notebook." Natali started to run off again, into the bushes.

Kurtis looked up at Em as she came into the treehouse. "I couldn't sleep. Thats all. You?" He walked toward her, with a large blanket in tow.

Emilina backed away and shivered slightly. "Just stay over there. I couldn't sleep, was havin nightmares."

Natali turned, to make sure Jacky was still okay. A protective state came over her, like these people had mattered to her her whole life. Almost there...

Jacky nodded and headed alittle off course so she could distract them away from Natali. She began to yell out, shuffling through dead leaves, hitting trees, anything that she thought would get their attention. Her senses heightened as she seemed to be able to hear everything around her, maybe it was her instincts, maybe it was just paranoia, but she began to hear something else, something that wasn't her.

Chris stood up finally coming out of shock from the idea of them going over the river after the book...his book. After getting up he walked over towards Emilina and just stood there not saying anything.

Natali slid across dead leaves and towards the book. She grabbed it, and held it to her for a minute. "Gotcha." She said, and turned again, starting to run off. A creature dropped down in front of her. She dodged, running around him quickly. "JACKY!!" She yelled. "GET TO THE OTHER SIDE!"

Hearing the yell, Jacky turned on her heals and dashed back the way she came. Her legs working hard to get back to the river safely. Suddenly her body slumped into a semi crouched position as her legs locked momentarily and her hand shot out to the side to steady herself as she looked up at the creature towering over her. Her hands and legs scrambled to get some distance between her and the creature while she pushed herself back up and in the opposite direction as fast as she could. Jumping into the bush she wasn't sure if she could outrun it in the bush but she knew she wouldn't go down that easily. Dodging around the trees and jumping the small bushes, slowly making her way back towards where she believe the river was. The girl could hear her heart beating loudly as she saw a small glimpse of the river up ahead. Her legs pushed harder as she looked behind her quickly to see the creature catching up to her quickly. Jumping a dead, fallen tree at the edge of the forest her foot caught on a small branch that was sticking up and sent her off balance and down towards the ground. Landing hard on the ground she looked behind her to see the creature right above her, it's clawed hand raised. In a large swooping motion it came towards her chest. Jacky just managed to roll to the side, but instead of getting hit on her chest she took the hit on her side as she yelped and grabbed her injured side as she stumbled up to her feet and into the river, narrowly escaping another lethal strike. Pushing her tired legs against the bottom she made it near the other side and turned to see the creature glaring at her from the other side, after a few minutes that seemed like hours the creature turned and departed back into the forest. She let out a breath of relief as she made her way back onto the other side of the river. Only then did the sting of the large gash become aparent to her, causing her to whimper and clench her teeth.

Natali jumped again, in a sort of running motion, sending herself further across the ground. Who would have thought? Another creature, returning from the river came moving slowly, as if dissapointed. Natali dodged under a few small tree's, as she turned to see how far they were. Ten paces behind. That wasn't very far. She lept again, over an old log, and felt relief as she saw the river. "They're afraid of the river." She remembered Kurtis saying. She grabbed at a tree branch with one hand, keeping the notebook safe to her chest. She swong it to keep up, pushing herself further. The burn in her legs was starting to show, but she pressed on. A claw reached her back, sending her stumbeling towards the river. Being safe was right.. there. She stepped back a couple paces, and threw the notebook with all the strength she could, feeling sucessfull as she watched the papers flutter and land on the ground on the other side. Another claw to the back, and she fell into the river, face first. Sure that the creatures would think her dead, she stayed how she had fell, tell a few yards down. Her weak hands clutched a rock, and pulled her body to the ground. She rolled onto the ground, moaning.

Gasping, Jacky looked to the side as she heard the fluttering in papers landing on the ground. Her vision blurring as she looked down the river bank a few meters and saw Natali laying there. Shit... she thought as she gasps as her hand unintentionally tightened on the large gash in her side. She tried to crawl towards the book but couldn't move from her position, the searing pain racking her body. "Help." she tried to cry out but only managing a hoarse whisper, barely able to be heard by her own ears. Her eyes got heavy as she closed them, passing out from the pain and the bleeding from her side.

God, Jacky, Natali thought, I never wanted to get you hurt. She lifted her head as much as she could, looking to see if Jacky was doing any better than herself. She dug her fingernails into the soil, trying to pull the rest of her body out of the water. She looked at the ground beside her, blood staining the ground. "I'm going to need stitches." She said to herself, not even loud enough to hear. She pulled further, grinding her teeth and letting out small whimpers. She stopped to catch her breath, now fully out of the water. At least now I wont get Hypothermia.

Hearing the commotion coming from the river side Chris quickly found his way down the stairs running towards the riverside himself. Praying that Emilina would be fine withouth him there, "Natali!, Jacky! are you two alright!?"
he wasnt even close to the shore when he yelled at them.

Natali pulled her head up again, trying to see where Chris was at. She wanted to yell for him, but she had no moisture in her throat to make a sound. She attemped pulling herself closer, but failed. Instead, she layed on the wooded ground, and waited.

Chris came out of the clearing and saw Natali laying there but no Jacky. Running over towards Natali he picked her up slightly, "Natali, are you alright? Wheres Jacky?"

"Jacky's up stream. I don't know how you missed her, since I'm further down." Natali said, moaning under the pressure and the feeling of blood running through her body again. "I'm going to need stitches," She looked at him, as if saying 'sorry'.

Upstream, Jacky laid there, unconcious and lying in a large amount of blood. Her hand still clutching at the wound as her shirt began to turn red.

"I don't know but lets get you out of here" after a second of wanting to pick up Natali Chris knew he had to find Jacky still she may be in worse condition. "Emily! HELP!" crying out to Emily or to Kurtis was his only choice, and he still didnt trust Kurtis

Natali coughed, feeling small amounts of blood run up through her throat. She tried to stand up and steady herself, but ended up having to sit back down on the soil. She layed down, getting dizzy. "I'll be just fine." She closed her eyes, hoping he'd leave her and help Jacky.

"just....ahh Stay put, I'll be right back" Chris ran off upstream to go find Jacky"

Kurtis sighed and looked up at her. "I'm not trying to get you and your new friends killed you know?" He reached for her grabbing her hand. "I won't if you stay with me that is."

Emilina pulled away and looked up at him. "What has happened to you?"

Natali reached back, feeling the large gashes in her back and side. How could you just tell me to stay put? She felt the blood run down her fingers as she closed her eyes and fell out of concoiusness.

Chris found Jacky and ran to her side, "Jacky? you awake?" before he even got an answer Chris hoisted Jacky onto his shoulder and headed back to camp, hoping that Natali was alright, or that Emily had shown up to help her"

Emilina looked at Kurtis then faked a yawn. "I think it's time for some sleep." Before he could amswer she had left, going down the ladder from the other treehouse she started for the river. She looked around and spotted Natali on the ground, she made her way as quick and quietly as possible. "Natali?" She whispered shaking her slightly. "Nat?"

Kurtis watched her go, then run to the other treehouse then down the ladder. "Sleep my ass."

Natali still layed on the ground, unable of hearing Emilina say her name. Blood still seaped from her.

Emilina still had her white sweater with her, she pressed it against the wound, tieing it around Natali. She struggled to pick her up and carry her back, both seemed about to be the same weight so it was hard. After making it back to the treehouse, she looked up wondering if Chris and Jacky had gotten back yet.

Natali's eyes flickered, and she pressed her hand to head. "Oh god." She felt utterly sick, and pain throbbed through her body. "Is the notebook and Jacky okay?"
