Gaide's Reign
Episode Ten:
Alegora slung a bag with the necessary medicine on her shoulder and tried an uncertain grin through gritted teeth, stopping herself from telling the stuck-up angel that she, although not holy, had values. Now was not the time to pick a fight. "So... haven't quite caught your names..."
"Bitch," Dimitri replied dryly, mentally taking note the hardness of her grin in sick pleasure. "That's Melody, Dalamir and Rayan," his tone switched to a somewhat lighter one, or as much as his permanently dark pitch would allow.
Alegora's face reddened and "Okay" was her only reply, but her jaw was clenched. She tried to ignore Dimitri and turned towards Melody. "Your bandage is fine now, and I've got everything in case there's another ... wounded." Her tone was much friendlier and the corner of her mouth twitched.
"There's sure to be more in the future." Rayan noted, nodding again.
Melody stretched, and yawnd loudly,"Well then, I think they should be releasing me soon." she said,"Then we can be off...to wherever we're heading."
"Thank you, Gladice." A doctor nodded to a nurse in the hallway, and headed off towards another room.
A fanged man grabbed him, and shoved him in the janitor's closet. The doctor yelped, but Kaine covered his mouth after he shut the door,
"Keep quiet," he hissed, pulling his hood off.
The doctor's mouth dropped, as he saw the pointed teeth which resided in Kaine's mouth,"Y-you'r
e a vamp--"
Within seconds, Kaine's pistol was at his head,"Yes, I amn, and we're the only two in this building who're going to know that...is that clear."
His captive gulped, and nodded,"Y-yes..."
Kaine smirked in a sadistic way,"Very good." he kept his hand steady, gun still pressing against his forehead,"Now, if anyone asks, my name is Doctor Ashmoore, and you know me personally. I work here, and am respected by all..."
The doctor cocked his head in confusion, only causing Kaine to press harder against his forehead,"Understood...?"
"...y-yes..."
Kaine lowered his gun,"Good." he sighed, accomplished,"Now get me a uniform..."
"Did we ever really have a destination in the first place?" Dimitri asked absently, his gaze lingering on the window where the rain shattered against it. He felt a sudden chill come over him, as though some black omen had emerged. He pushed it from his mind, turning to look back at the others.
"Hmm." Melody looked down to her knees,"Not really...the only place I've ever wanted to be recently is away from Kaine. Unfortunately, the jackass is one of those people who never leaves a job unfinished. And that's why he's damned us for all I know..."
"Until we can get rid of him... or other methods," he turned again back to his orginal position and leaned his forehead against the glass "... If that's even possible,"
"Everybody has a weakness." Dalamir stated, staring up at the white light in the ceiling,"Kaine's is just...extremely hard to define."
Dimitri remained silent, squinting into the dark city, an unending insecurity taking over him. He growled some curse, trailing his finger absently across his gun's black and silver handle "Can it count as a weakness if it can't be used...?"
Dalamir thought about it, and refrained to silence.
Suddenly, a tall figure came prancing into the door,"Hellooooo everyone." he smirked toothily behind his doctor's mask, which was covering his mouth.
An uncomfortable feeling thickened the air, as Melody shifted in her seat.
Rayan just smiled brightly, from behind his brother was giving him a glare of annoyance, since he's been smiling that same way all day.
Melody blinked, and her eyes narrowed slightly at the strange doctor,"Hey,"
Dimitri turned from the window to glare at the new disturbance "Who're you?" he growled bluntly, not really liking formalities.
Alegora, who'd been trying to sort out that Kaine business just before, looked up at the doctor. "Hello, I'm the appointed nurse here, everything's just fine and the patient is ready to go out." she smiled, though her mind was occupied trying to recognise the doctor. Must be his first day, though I haven't heard of any new doctor coming in. Maybe he's from a different department or something ...
Kaine nodded at Alegora, and tried his best to contain himself from glancing at Dimitri, afraid he'd suddenly snap and do something crazy like attack him.
"I see. I'm just going to do a final check up on Miss Melody over here."
"...it's Melika." she said darkly.
Kaine felt himself turn red,'Well, that was stupid...',"Eh, forgive me, you just remind me of a little girl I know."
She nodded, arching a brow,"Uh-huh..."
He shook his head, and reached over to feel Melody's forehead,"Oh my, oh my..."
Melody flinched back at the familar and cold touch.
"But you...you're a crazed hanyou who was born to be insane-- born to kill." he chuckled,"Born to belong in that hellhole they locked you in..."
"You're running a fever, girl."
"...I'm not sick..."
Kaine narrowed his eyes,"Oh, yes you are..."
Melody did likewise,"Oh, I think I'm perfectly fine..." she snapped.
His eye twitched irritably, as he grabbed a thermometer off of the table, and popped it in Melody's mouth. After a pathetic two seconds, he took it out of her mouth, only too see it still at room temperature. He bit her lip, and threw in the garbage can,"Oh, yes you are, your fever is very high."
She gave him a dull look,"Tell me, do I look sick, 'doctor'??"
A growl began to rise in his throat, tension so high he almost thought he heard a heartbeat in his cold and dead body,"Yes, you fucking do..."
"Hey doc," Dimitri had crossed the room to be on the other side of the bed, glaring at Kaine. "... Do you see any sweat on her forehead or is her face flushed? No. I'm the dumbest person you'll meet and even I know she doesn't have an effing fever. She's missing an eye you dumbass," he narrowed his eyes, that subconsious dread rising again in his chest. He took a breath, and allowed his words to lack fire "Can you leave now? I think we have everything under control, doctor,"
Alegora stepped uneasily towards the doctor. "Sir I assure you everything's fine ! I have checked for possible infection or disease and have given the painkillers, there is no fever." She reached for the doctor's hand, intending to give him the full list of the medication prescribed and to direct him towards the door.
The vampire flinched back from Alegora. He sighed, and snatched the list from her hand, muttering a feign and blunt,"Thank you," Kaine eyed the room uneasily, and gave an aggrivated whine, whipping off the mask. He held up his gun, anbd stood in front of the door,"I'm tired of this charade..."
Melody swallowed, and bit her lip,"Dammit...!!"
He smirked,"None are you are leaving this room...until the police get here. I've been informed of a little incident earlier this evening...and I've contacted the police."
Dimitri blinked once, watching Kaine. Then a slow smile spread across his lips "Kaine, it's nice to see you doing something with your life. That doctor's outfit looks very good on you." he drew his own gun, staying his place.
"Hm," Kaine clicked his gun idly,"'Harrasser' of women who want a piece of you is a job that suits you very well, indeed,"
Dalamir shot a slight,'told you so' look at the angel, but didn't press the subject to verbal speech,"Now tell me, how the hell are the police gonna believe a vampire?"
"I used to the phone, Elf." Kaine said snidely.
Dalamir's ears drooped, as Rayan's did earlier.
"What're you gonna do when the police get here? You are a standing vampire here ya know," Dimitri said mildly, blatantly ignoring Dalamir's look.
"These humans are idiots." Kaine replied, although inside he did realise what he was risking,"I haven't comitted any crimes. I'm jailing a threat to society."
Dimitri unwillingly flinched at the former word, but continued his calm demeanor. "I find it kind of sad, Kaine, that you'd rather call the police and jail us, then shoot us all right now. You do have the upper hand," he spoke genuinely. "But there goes me again, suggesting ways for me to get killed,"
Alegora felt her adrenaline level rising as she pulled a small seringe full of tranquilising liquid from her pocket, normally used on severly wounded or agitated patients, and hid it in her hand. Please let this work on vampires she prayed as she lunged towards Kaine.
"What the--" Kaine lept out of the way, and fired a warning shot at Alegora, bullet skidded over her head,"Stay away from me, human!!"
"Yeah, that would be a good idea..." Dimitri mumbled, watching her futile attack dully.
Leerah sat up in her cave, and welcomed the night. She got up, and began to walk. She then started to see the outlining of a city.
"The angel is right," Kaine said calmly,"I do not take kindly to those who make sad and useless attempts...humans, in particular,"
"Thank you, Kaine, for stating the obvious." Melody hissed.
"None of you are in any position to make petty insults."
Dimitri sighed "Cause you know, it would help..." he growled to himself, thumb tapping idly on his gun "The angel...? I have a name, don't you remember?"
Kaine heaved a sigh as well,"How could I ever forget. And for your earlier comment, I'm not exacty in a position to kill anyone right now. First off, I'm outnumbered, and you brats have learned how to get away a few times too many. Second, they think Melody's a human, and the police are on the way soon...you get the picture. And third," he smiled again,"It's fun to have humans on my side...to use them."
Dimitri rolled his eyes "You're too sadistic for your own good..." he sighed, letting his gaze rest on the vampire's face for a few more seconds before glancing over at Dalamir and Rayan.
Alegora was leaning against the wall, still in state of shock. However her mind was racing, trying to find an escape route. Why the hell are they taking so long ? They must have heard the gun shot by now ...
Kaine ran his tongue across his front row of teeth, and his attentioned turned to the window, as blue and red lights cascaded over the area,"Well, they're here."
"Wheee..." Dimitri sighed, reaching into his pocket he grabbed some ammo and loaded his gun, hands running over the black handle in thought. "Feeling hungry, Kaine?"
"I'm always lusting for more, Dimitri. You people should know that." he swallowed dryly, noting his movements,"Don't try anything. This place is surrounded."
"Mm, now why would I try something?" He replied, thinking. His brows furrowed and he glanced up "How did you get in here anyways?" he continued the blatant questions so as to keep the room from becoming silent.
The vampire winked, and gave a sly grin,"That's my little secret."
Loud and yelling voiced were heard outside in the hallways. Kaine sighed, and put a hand on the doorknob,"Here they cooooome..." he said in a sing-song tone.
Dimitri smiled, clicking his gun once. He watched Kaine, his hand trailing his gun back to it's respected holster, and stepped around the bed to stalk up beside the vampire. He leaned against the wall beside the door, tilting his head to the side "Fun."
Kaine tilted his head the way Dimitri did, raising his gun to him,"Yes," he laughed lowly, "Fun," he quickly opened the door, and in an instant, three police men had their weapons pointed up into the room,
"Freeze," they all hissed.
Dimitri watched them, eyes trailing across their human faces. He let out an inaudible sigh. Lifting his leg he struck the one nearest him in the solar plexus. Drawing his gun in mid-kick, he shot the man in the forehead. He turned to look at the others, eyes narrowing.
A few of them flinched back, not only because of their lost comrade, but the size of his massive white wings. The one on the left of Dimitri kept his weapon up,"Put the gun, down,"
A throwing dagger slammed into his hand, and the gun in the officer's hand flew into the wall. Melody was up, already changed back into her clothes.
Rayan was still red faced, since she changed right in front of the two elves. Dalamir sighed, and his crossbow was at the ready.
His gun already taking a shot at the now gun inept cop, he wtahced the bullet pierce through the man's face, just above his eye, leaving a clean round hole.
He turned to look at Dalamir with his crossbow at the ready and nodded. He then glanced around for Kaine.
Dalamir shot an arrow at another officer, sitting him square in the chest. He sighed, as the man dropped to the ground.
Melody grabbed her sword from Rayan, and ran towards two of them, taking both of them out by spinning around with her blade.
Dimitri mumbled a curse as blood splattered his face. He clicked his gun, stepping over the corpses, once again glancing around for the vampire. He raised a hand to wipe the blood from his face and smirked.
The vampire cursed under his breath, and shot twice at Dimitri, using corpses as a human shield.
Dimitri sighed, as one bullet grazed his cheek, the other catching him in the collar bone. He felt hot blood seep onto his skin and he started towards Kaine, kicking corpses aside as he went.
"Dammit," Kaine threw a corpse at Dimitri, and fired another shot at him, backing away.
Rayan had gestured the most part of the people in the waiting room, almost all patients, and some staff out of the building.
Dalamir sighed, and fired at another upcoming officer,"Rayan, be a man and fight already!!"
Rayan slouched slightly, and sighed, grabbing one of his knives
The corpse fell usless at Dimitri's feet, which he stepped over automatically. The bullet catching him in the rib, he felt his bone shatter at the impact. Pain swept him, his foot staggered, but he reached out and grasped Kaine by the neck. He shoved the vampire against the wall, holding him off his feet. He narrowed his eyes, everything burning in white hot pain he blatantly ignored.
Kaine whailed out, as his back hit the wall. He growled, glaring hard and cold at Dimitri, grabbing the hand which he was grasping him now. He made a choking noise, but soon smiled,"Aha...do you feel proud, Dimitri? What exactly will you accomplish by killing me?"
Dimitri kept his face dark as he leaned closer to him, black eyes flashing dangerously. "What exactly will you accomplish by killing me, Kaine? Wiping out one more piece of everything you hate? Will that give something back to you, one more piece of your soul that you lost?" his brows furrowed and he leaned even closer so that he could whisper "What will my death bring...? Please, tell me, so I can stop driving myself mad wondering,"
Kaine breathed heavily, feeling drops of sweat drip over his body,"At first, it was duty...then suddenly, it became a lot more personal."
Dimitri watched a bead of sweat trail down Kaine's cheek. His gaze locked with the vampire's and he stared hard at the lustre orbs "Why?"
Kaine sighed,"Because I--"
From behind, a remaining officer fired at Dimitri's lower back.
Dimitri's eyes widened, his spine shattering the nerves ripping and dying in his body tore pain across his self. He took in a breath, hand falling from Kaine's neck. He staggered, blood sokaing his skin in all it's crimson radiance, before collapsing among the other corpses at Kaine's feet.
Kaine looked down at his fallen opponent, and was still breathing heavily. He sighed, as he eyed the current situation
Melody had already fallen to her knees, policeman's knife at her throat, hair haning lank across her face. She glanced up hopelessly to Dimitri, as tears began to stung her eyes,"Dammit..."
Rayan panted heavily , as two guns were already at his head. He sighed in defeat, and put his weapon down. He looked at his brother Dalamir, on the ground, after a policeman used a taser gun on him.
Another had a gun to Alegora's head as well.
Kaine looked up to the officer who shot Dimitri, and sighed in relief, stepping over several bodies,"Thank you, sir...I'm sure you'll take care of these miscreants." he nodded, and began to walk, smirking down at the still concious creatures who were being handcuffed.
Another authourity with a taser gun stood in his path,"Oh, no you don't, vampire...you have caused many casualties, and obviously murdered the city guard, and broke into here as well."
Kaine bit his lip, and gave a sheepish smile,"Sir, we can sort this--"
Bam. In a moment, Kaine was at the ground, hit with the taser gun.
"...take 'em all away."
Dimitri slowly opened his eyes, the only thing he was aware of was the searing pain coursing through every part of his being. He rolle over, his vision completely unfocused, he had know idea where he was.
"...thank God you're awake..." Melody heaved a sigh of relief, ears drooping, as she watched over him sympathetically.
Her voice was slurred and he could only see the faint blur of her hair and clothes. "What happened...?" he croaked, his throat felt like sandpaper.
Melody looked to her knees,"Well, obviously you were shot and knocked unconcious..." she cleared her throat,"They've arrested us."
Dimitri blinked slowly, suddenly everything came back in a wave. The last thing he saw was Kaine's face, in the middle of speaking... "Where is he?" he asked suddenly.
"He's right here, Dimitri." a dry voice came from the cell across from them. Kaine has his head leaned against the cold iron bars, sidglancing him.
Dimitri rolled over painfully to glare at him, he tried speaking once more then coughed. He sighed and started again "Guess it didn't work out the way you planned,"
"Hell yeah," he replied bluntly, staring at the ceiling. A muffled whining was heard from the same place. Kaine sighed in annoyance, and whined in aggriavtion,"Could you tell your little elven friends in here with me to quit whining?! The little gangly and perky one's going crazy, and I'm not even doin' anythin' to him, for Pete's sake!!"
"His name is Rayan," Dimitri growled. He then sighed "Rayan," he called weakly "Can you please stop...?"
"B-but..." the younger elf called out staggering,"We're locked in here...with him...vampire!!" he spat out the final word as if it was some kind of suprise.
"OW! Stop pulling ony my hair, dammit!!" Dalamir glanced over to his younger brother, hiding behind him,"We know what is is, Rayan...calm down, he can't hurt us here."
Of course, the frantic elf almost ignored all these comments, and began to whine and cry into Dalamir's back. The older elf sighed, and looked to Kaine from the corner of the room,"...sorry." he said, almost inaudiably.
Kaine snarled, and sighed.
Melody tapped her fingers against the iron bars which held both her and Dimitri in,"Well, this is just dandy." she muttured.
Dimitri grunted as he pulled himself to a sitting position. He let out a breath he was unaware of holding and cursed, tilting his head back to lean wagainst the stone wall. He blinked again, staring at the ceiling...
"Oh my God..."
Alegora sat against one of the walls, eyes staring into space. She haden't said a word since the fight had broken out, and she pulled herself together to mumble, "They took away my meds. Think that angels can't die a second time ..." She looked up at Dimitri with the tiny bit of compassion left inside her, and then unfocused her eyes again. She blinked, and a single tear came slowly down her face.
Melody's looked to Dimitri, then Alegora, energy drained. She sighed, and gave Alegora an apologetic look,"Sorry you got dragged into all of this." she said, smiling sadly,"But I'm sure they won't convict you of anything. You haven't done anything wrong..."
She sighed, and crawled over by Dimitri,"...you holding up okay?" Melody asked, twtching her ears.
"I'm okay ?" burst out Alegora, no longer able to contain herself, "I've been seen in the presence of fucking supernatural beings who have just fucking killed at least 2 policemen and injured the double; people that I met every fucking day on the bus, people that had a family, friends, neighours, a life that you just reduced to nothing when you could have gone off nicely, had a minor fine and let out straight away ! Because I decided to fucking trust you, 2 people are dead and I am now convicted of conspiracy ! I am fucking sick and tired of you heavenly creatures, she spat out the word, treating us humans as cattle, as mere nothing when we haven't done anything to provoke you ! We give you hospitality, medical treatment, trust, and you just .. just ... murder innocent people trying to protect this city ?" The last few words were interrupted by a few sobs as she went over to the iron bars and called out to one of the policeman for her medics bag.
After a few shouts and reasoning, the medication (labelled and in seperate plastic bags) was passed through the bars. Alegora breathed in heavily. "Anyone injured can come to me and I'll dress the wound," she finished, looking at none in particular. She slid down the wall and pressed her forhead against the cold iron, shutting herself from the rest of the world as much as she could.
Melody opened her mouth to retaliate, but was interrupted by Kaine,
"We're not all holy here, missy." he said,"...we're all hipocrits. Have you ever considered how they just might have feelings too? Heaven and such is just getting back at you humans for shunning them oh so long ago when this whole conspiricy started!!"
Alegora looked up at the vampire. "Conspiracy ? What the hell is this about ? We were okay in our purgatory before you came, go back to where you came from." Her voice came out strangely neutral, as if she didn't really care anymore.
"God dammit, I know that." he snapped back at her,"I should know, I was there before this all began."
Alegora looked at him with a mixture of interest and apprehension. "Before what exactly began ? Before you lot came here ? Or ..."
"...my lot?" he snarled,"Oh, come on... You can't just be born vampire. I've witnessed this whole war begin."
She sighed tiredly, "Why ? What's the point of this war ? We're all loosing, and getting nothing but suffering out of it ."
"Power, miss. We're all powerhungry beings inside..."
"But what's the point of controlling the purgatory ? Unless it's just the battlefield but then it still makes no sense ! An eternity filled with holiness, prayer and no sins doesn't seem much better than torture, screams and flames ..." Her brows furrowed as she tried thinking of other possibilities.
"Dammit, you idiots, everyone should know by now that a catostraphe this big wasn't supposed to happen!! Heaven's not trying to make everything all good, nor is hell trying to make everything all bad. What heaven's doing right now really doesn't seem that heavenly, in fact is almost seems as hellish as hell. And humans...sheesh, how do I explain that..."
Alegora looked confused and then nodded back at the vampire, waiting for him to continue.
Dimitri listened to the whole of the exchanges intently, finally tearing his eyes away from the ceiling. He glanced at Alegora, refraining form glaring at her. The whole incident that had just happened must have been disturbing for her. She was more than right, the police were just doing their jobs. Death didn't need to be the answer, but currently he was in too much pain to start feeling guilty. He then looked over to Kaine, whose words shocked him more than anything had that day. He blinked, and leaned his head against the wall, waiting for the conversation to continue.
Alegora suddenly noticed the angel's wounds and offered to take a look at them, though still keeping her eyes on Kaine.
Dimitri glanced at her coming towards him. He raised a hand "Please," he croaked "Don't bother, I'm fine,"
She took her eyes off the vampire and looked at the blood stained angel. "Lie down, I'll do what I can." She stood next to a wooden plank which looked slightly more confortable than the floor..
"Don't bother," he repated, coughing slightly "Honestly, I'm fine," he pulled his knee up to rest his arm on it.
"You might feel like it now, but it's going to get worse whenever you're going to move ... and I doubt you're in the best physical shape in case we need to escape. Currently you're the one holding us down, and I'm not only doing this for your sake." The words weren't particularily pleasant to hear but the tone was gentle.
Dimitri now full front glared at her "Please excuse my current condition, I didn't ask for it," he hissed "However I do know that right now I have enough energy to punch your face in, don't try me,"
Alegora dropped her bag in front of him and backed off. "Suits yourself.' she muttered, slumping down on the floor again.
Leerah came to the enterance of the city. damn, there are so many humans here. She thought as she lurched in the shadows.
Melody watched Dimitri and Alegora wearily, and sighed, closing her eyes,"We might as well make the best of this." she shot a look at the vampire,"At least Kaine won't bite tonight..."
Dimitri side glanced said person tiredly "What makes you think that?" he asked, coughing after. He mentally cursed his croaking voice.
Kaine sighed,"I simply can't, since I'm locked in a cell full of holiness, and I'm gonna be itching for the rest of my damned life!!"
"..." Dimitri sighed, feeling very stupid. Everything sounded very loud and booming. "...Oh yeah..."
"I'm guessing this put's a little set back on your little plan, huh Dim..." Dalamir said, almost inaudiably.
Melody's ears picked it up, but she paid no heed to the comment,"...this situation's gonna get weird once we get outta here. We can't just start fighting the minute we get outta here, we'll just get arrested again, and cause unnessicary casualties.
Dimitri cursed under his breath, flipping his head to glare at the Elf "Would you shut-up, Dalamir? My God! As if you care anyways!" he snapped automatically, realizing only moments after what he had just said. "..."
Melody just stared at him, as Rayan peered over his older brother's shoulder.
"...this thing doesn't seem so 'grown-up' anymore..." she called out sheepishly. Dalamir sighed, and crawled over to the edge of the cell, opposite Kaine. Rayan yelped helplessly after him, squealing out,'No, my shield!!', voice broken.
"Look, Dimitri, of course I care...I'm not that shallow."
Dimitri sighed leaning his head back again. "You seem more intent on reminding me about it rather than stopping it..." he said, once again choosing his words carefully.
"I'm reminding you, so that you'll snap, and you won't do it!!" Dalamir snapped,"If I try stopping it, I know I'll get a bullet through my head..."
Dimitri caught his breath in his throat, his face taking on an expression as though he'd been slapped. "..." he turned his head to look at him harshly "You think I'd actually do that? That I'm so God damned bent on doing this that I'd shoot you?!" he stumbled to his feet with effort and hobbled to the bars to lean on them "Dalamir, I cannot believe you would think that I'd try to kill you..."
Dalamir watched him rise, and arched a brow,"I was half-kidding, Dimitri." he said, getting up as well for the hell of it.
Dimitri swore darkly at him "Lord..." he leaned against the bars heavily, finding it hard to catch his breath "Half-kidding?" he growled.
"I know you care, Dimitri, but if you get mad enough..." he leaned the side of his head against the iron bars,"If you get mad enough, you could. Everyone can snap unnessecarily...even angels."
Dimitri cursed again, sliding down the bars to the ground, it was far too painful to even consider continuing to stand. "Damn you, Dalmair," he hissed, sweat beading on his forehead.
Rayan shot Dalamir a scolding look,"Dalamir!! You know he'd never do that!!"
"Shut up, Rayan. Sure as hell, he could if he wanted to."
Melody eyed Dimitri, and grimaced as as slumped to the ground. She approached him, and bit her lip,"Don't waste your energy on him," she said, giving a dark glare to Dalamir.
Kaine blinked, as the conflict went on,'Conflict? My, my, maybe his posee isn't as sugar coated as it seemed...' he stole a smirk.
Dimitri frowned, teeth gritting together. He opened his eyes to glance up at the hanyou. He sighed, she didn't even know what they were quarreling about. His eyes scanned the surrounding area and he suddenly felt very closed in. Everything was so loud, Melody's voice, the rat the just scurried by, his own heavy breathing... All of it was so deafening.
He shut his eyes weakly, running his knuckles of his hand over his forehead. The pain began to set in.
She turned from Dalamir to Dimitri, and nearly flinched as she saw his shrinking form,"...Dimitri...?" she called softly.
He winced. Her voice was so loud. He bit his lip to keep from a profane comment and repsonded "..Yeah?"
Melody slid a supporting hand over his shoulder,"Just hang on for a while...okay?" she said, voice nearly inaudiable.
Rayan blinked from the other cell,"Is he okay?"
"Does he look okay?" Kaine added absently, whilst keeping his eyes on Dimitri. He wanted to nag and bug him about the pain so badly, but he refrained from saying anything.
"Melody... Mel," he reached up a hand to pull on her shirt slightly "M-my spine's shattered," he croaked painfully.
Melody grew suddenly earnest, and concern filled her tired eyes. She swallowed, and stroke his arm gently,"Everything's gonna be fine..." without another word, she slid her arm under his knees, and picked him up. She staggered to the single prison bed in the cell, putting him down gently, scared she just made the pain worse.
Without permission, she dug into Alegora's medical supplies,"Don't you dare say 'I can't handle this'...I've done it once, I can do it again." she said to Alegora, looking for some cream and a roll of bandages.
Once she suceeded, she went over to Dimitri, and gently nudged him,"...can you turn around...?"
He shook his head "Please," he croaked, losing his voice "Don't try, don't bother," his voice cracked at the end and he swallowed "Just water.... Water, please,"
"Water..." she exhaled deeply,"Okay...water..."
Rayan quickly slid the gourd of water they let him keep in the cell over to the opposite side. Melody walked over, and reached for it. Once she had said object in her grasp, she walked over to Dimitri, popping the cap off,"Here..." she bent low, and held out the gourd near his mouth,"Drink, Dim..."
Dimitri grasped the gourd and drank the entire contents sadly. After finishing he cast the object against the stone wall and shut his eyes tightly, wiping sweat off his brow.
The hanyou bit her lip, and twitched her ears,"They shouldn't have locked you in here; the least they could've done was treat you..." she cursed.
"I killed two people," he argued weakly, his voice back somewhat "If anything they should've left me in the sewer like this,"
"That may have mean unnessecary, but desperation can grow stronger than a person's moral." she said, although she too did feel guilty,"It could've been prevented, but..." she sighed, trail of thought dissapating.
Leerah moved along quietly, unsure of where she was.
Dimitri glanced up at Melody "...I wasn't very desperate," he growled, brows furrowing. He sighed, coughing slightly on his won breath "But I guess you're right..."
"They would've gone all discriminating on us even if we didn't fight..." Rayan added sheepishly.
"I wouldn't blame them," Dalamir said darkly under his breath.
"Nonetheless...we'd end up in here anyways." Melody eyed Dimitri again,"...you should get your wound treated by Alegora or me or something. You can't just leave it like that." she said, in desperation, trying to change the subject.
"It's fine..." he muttered, raising his hand to hold his broken collarbone "There's hardly anything you can do anyways, and I don't want to waste our only bandages on something like this,"
"At least they would support the bone though." she said, trying to lighten the mood. Melody gave a deeated sigh, and sat herself on the ground,"But if that's what you think...fine."
He smiled tightly abit, shutting his eyes so as not to witness his surroundings "...Think they're gonna give us a trial...?" he asked feebly.
"Maybe. I'm not sure. It could be in our favour; or could totally be against us. I mean, two people died, and then that incident with that girl," she spat the last few words bitterly, but tried not to press on with the subject,"If we're guilty, we'll probably end up in some other weirdo jail...bigger, and even worse."
"Hey, we could end up in an asylum!!" Kaine said mockingly, but stopped as soon as her eyes met his.
Melody rolled her eyes,"But he's right."
"Or, ya know, we could always be let out," Rayan smiled a bit,"If luck's on our side."
Dimitri coughed a bit, glancing up at the Elf "I was thinking that it would be the only time we were out of the cells," he said, voice clicking uncomfortably on the last word "Then maybe you could get out,"
He cocked his head at the suggestion,"Me?"
Dalamir turned his attention to Dimitri in slight interest.
Alegora had prefered to keep silent during the whole row, she didn't want to make things worse than they already were. And she was now regretting what she had said earlier ... She got up and paced the cell, putting her neurones to work, trying desperatly to find something, a weakness they could exploit and use to their advantage.
Dimitri shrugged, though it was an effort and used but one shoulder. "Well, you didn't kill or hurt anyone did you? ... And neither did the walking time bomb over here," he nodded over to the pacing Alegora. "I don't really think it should be fair that you have to be in here,"
"Hmmm..." he looked from Alegora to Dimitri, and drooped his long ears,"That may be, but I still don't wanna leave if you guys aren't."
Dimitri sighed, he would have been sadly stupid to expect Rayan to say anything else; selfless, faithful Rayan. "Stop being an idiot..." he growled, cursing under his breath.
A stupid and somewhat sad expression fell over Rayan's face,"But..." he pouted, and slouched against the wall, not bothering to argue.
Dimitri opened his eyes halfway to look at the crestfallen Elf. He sighed, and with much of a painful effort, slid down to the stone ground, shifting over to lean against the wall. He didn't utter a whimper. He hated being weak.
Raising his eyes to look at the bars of his prison cell he caught his breath in his throat, face remaining indifferent. Being weak seemed like something that would be happening to him for a long time now.
Dalamir peered lazily too the barred window at the high corner of his cell, watching the dark colours of the sky settle in through the crowds.
It began to thunder and pour outside, as the prisons cells became darker. Melody flinched everytime lightning came and thunder boomed.
"...I think God's mad at us," Dimitri mumbled off handedly, watching the rain shatter like crystals against the grimy window pane.
"That's a definate." Melody added, running her fingers through her her. She scratched the skin by her empty eye socket through the bandages, and swallowed.
He side-glanced her, biting his lip "How does that feel?" he asked, losing his voice again. He cleared his throat irritably "To look through one eye?"
Melody looked to him, and smiled a bit,"Weird...I can't define distance anymore, so that'll suck. But I'll get used to it."
Dimitri grimaced, refraining from sending Kaine the black look he was conjuring up in his head, reminding himself it was the vampire's fault she had lost the organ. "Well at least you look like a warrior now," he muttered, trying in vain to somewhat lighten the situation.
"Pfft..." she laughed lowly,"Yeah," she ran her finger through her,"I'll be kick ass with one eye." Melody sighed, and closed her eye tiredly.
Dimitri watched her, eyes trailing along the floor to the stone walls. He frowned, suddenly thankful for the white hot pain that was distracting his mind from where he actually was. He lifted his left hand slowly to run it along the pewter surrounding. He sighed, brows furrowing, he wiped away a bead of sweat itching the side of hs face.
Kaine's hand slowly balled into a fist, and tension grew inside him. This isn't what he wanted, no, not at all. Of course this would grow a problem...he'd probably get scolded or something by Kuroi or maybe even the Father of evil. He shuddered at the grim thoughts, and moaned lowly to himself.
Dalamir blinked weakly to the ground, drumming his fingers against the floor.
An annoying silence filled the room.
Dimitri growled at the silence ringing in his ears, on top of everything else. His hand trailed to a stone on the ground beside him and he whipped it at the wall oppsite him angrily. He surpressed loud curse at the pain the gesture had caused, leaning back slowly against the wall again.
Melody lazily watched the stone bounce off the wall, and twitched her soft ears,"We're all gonna go insane..." she mouthed.
Suddenly, footsteps filled the corridor.
Dimitri glared at the silent comment, body stiffening as footsteps echoed the dank room.
A silent and tall figure stood in between the two cells, staring on ahead,"I'm gonna bail you out." a crooning voice said.
Rayan blinked up from his crestfallen position, and blinked to the stranger, dumbfounded,"But--"
"Don't ask why, I'm just going to."
Melody arched her visible brow,"What the hell are you doing?"
He turned to look at the direction where the feminine voice came from,"Would you rather stay in here?"
"I..." she heaved a defeated sigh.
Dimitri glanced up at the figure, brows furrowing. He really wasn't in a position to say no, nor did he want to stay in this cell any longer than he had to. He concluded with silence.
Leerah had followed these people she had met earlier. She looked into a small window (are there windows??) and said, "Pss! Hey!"
Rayan twitched his ears, and turned to where this voice came from. He looked over to the cell window in the far corner, and arched a brow, as the vampire they had run into earlier was at the window.
The new stranger blinked at them all,"You're a grim bunch..." he noted, looking over to Dimitri. He grimaced as he realised that he was sweating, and looked like he was in pain,"You okay, kid?" he asked, approaching the cell.
"Never better," Dimitri grumbled at the stanger, despite the situation, not at all appreciating being called 'kid'.
His eyes narrowed at the blood seeping through his shirt,"Sheesh, just how much trouble did you get in?"
"A alot," Melody muttured, twitching her ears,"Taser guns, half-ass vampires," as she spat the word 'vampire' very pointedly, Kaine growled under his breath at this statement,"And two dead...yeah, I'd call that a lot of trouble."
"Or stupidity..." Dimitri muttered, rubbing his arms in a vain effort to warm himself.
Melody stared at him, and sighed,"And, um, about getting us out...how exactly? I mean you can't bail us out with money--"
Suddenly, the cell's door swung open,"...like that."
Leerah cussed, and moved to the side of the window. She wanted to hear what was going on.
Dimitri peered up at him "What, you think we can just walk out?"
Leerah peered back into the cell. "Need help?" She said a bit louder than before.
Rayan gestured to the stranger,"I think I got it covered," he said. Dalamir blinked, and turned to see who Rayan was talking to,
"...what the hell...?"
The stranger stood at the doorway, and cocked his head,"I do think so."
Dimitri watched Leerah in the window for a moment before glancing back to the stranger. He was about to ask some simpleton question, but refrained from it. He didn't force himself to his feet yet, he wanted to make sure this strnger wasn't setting them up for something.
"Well, if im not needed, maybe ill leave." Leerah stopped, and said, "The demon girl made it, right?" SHe could not see her threw the window.
Rayan nodded,"She's fine...the angel's in more pain than she id right now. Thanks anyways."
He drummed his fingers against the iron bars, and stepped out of the doorway. Melody sighed, and got up, running her tongue against her teeth. She walked towards the door carefully, but was on guard the whole time. The stranger smiled, as she passed through the cell door,
"See? Nothing wrong." he said. Melody eyed him carefully, and sighed, walking back into the cell by Dimitri,
"We've got nothing to lose,"
Leerah sighed, wanting to help. "Are you sure you dont need help? I make a good distraction." She offered.
"We got plenty of help, don't worry." Rayan smiled reassuringly.
Dimitri glanced up at Melody, then back at the stranger. He then reminded himself that he would go mad here, and anywhere else was better. He groaned, using the wall as support to pull himself to his feet in a painful effort. The feeling of shattered bone floating around was starting to get to him.
He stood hunched over, wobbling unnaturally like an old man and exited the cell.
"Ill meet you outside." Leerah said, dissappearing. She knew that they would need more help than they let on.
Rayan sighed, as she left.
Melody followed on after Dimitri, there to catch him if he fell. She glanced to Alegora, and gestured for her to come.
Kaine watched the cell door swing open, and blinked lazily at the stange man. He shot a the look back, as Rayan pranced out of there happily. Dalamir sighed, and followed after, looking behind his shoulder to see Kaine walked out as well.
"There ya go." The stranger smiled widely, beginning to pace forward.
Rayan looked on after him,"...so we can just walk out of here?"
The stranger just smiled at him, and continued on, drawing one of his pistols. He instantly pointed it to Kaine, who flinched back at the gesture,"...'half ass' vampires first." Kaine shot him a dull look, and rolled his eyes, walking on ahead of the rest of them.
Leerah, being an impatient person thought, where the hell are they? and she snuck in.
Dimitri watched the back of the stranger's head, wanting so badly to ask him his name or shoot a remark or... say something! Instead of not being able to speak for fear of a coughing fit, or blood lurching.
Leerah rounded a corner, and saw them. "There you are!"
Dalamir flinched a Leerah,"Huh?"
The stranger blinked at her,"...who's this?"
"I could ask you the same thing." Leerah said, leaning against the wall, crossing one leg at the anckle ove the other.
Dimitri glared at her, wanting nothing more than to be out of this prison he opened his mouth to make a sharp remark but no sound came out, just a low husking. He mentally smacked himself.
"Oh, we met her when...um..." Rayan blinked, and pointed to Melody's eyes socket,"That happened..."
He looked over to the bandages which wound around Melody's head, and grimaced,"Ow..." he looked back to Leerah,"Then, we better get go--"
"Jailbreak...!! A breech in section B! I repeat, a breech in section B!"
Melody's expression fell, as she looked to the stranger,"...You idiot!!"
He smiled sheepishly,"Heh...I think now's the time to run..."
"Time for fun." Leerah said witha smirk. 'I can stay behind...kinda hold them off."
"Pfft, we're cabable of this too, ya know." Dalamir said snidely. Rayan sighed,
"You're such a meanie..."
Leerah twirled her daggers. "From what I remember, you stood there while I tried to save your friend."
Dalamir stared at her, and snarled,"We fought off a whole team of police and--"
"Frig, will you all just shut up and run!!" Melody screamed at them, abruptly lifting the angel off of his feet and running.
The stranger watched on after her, and laughed, following,"She's right, you know."
"Mel-Melo-" Dimitri glared up at her "I can run," he croaked, wings bending uncomfortably in the awkward position.
Leerah sneered as some of the gaurds came running in. The first one got a stab in the heart.
Dalamir's eyes narrowed at Leerah as he ran,"Don't kill anymore of them...we're not here to cause casualties." he said calmly.
Melody rolled her eyes, turning around a corner,"Run? You? Now?" she sighed,"You're freaking spine is broken, you'll kill yourself running," she snapped down at him.
They soon entered the main lobby. Kaine smirked, and shot at a small window. And with that, he made his grand escape.
Rayan sighed, after hoping that he would've gotten shot or something before he split from the group.
Leerah came baraling down the hall, with a smile on her face.
The stranger sighed in relief, as a glowing red 'exit' sign followed by a door was down the hall,"Here we go..." he srpang on ahead, and busted open the door, waiting for the others to come through.
Leerah stood in the doorway. "Want me to stay here?"
The stranger looked to her, and smiled,"I suggest you get out of the doorway before they run you over,"
Dimitri grumbled incoherently, thoroughly hating this whole experience as much as he possibly could. He blinked up at the stranger, noting his total care-free way of reacting to the situation 'What an idiot...'
Leerah moved away, then turned to Dimitri. "Well, you seem to be in charge. What do you want me to do?"
Dimitri turned his head to glare at her "Yeah, leader of the pack being carried like a child!" he tried to growl darkly, but it came out as an angry croak.
Leerah scoffed. "Wait til your pinned to the ground and have your life drained out of you." Dhe turned to the side. her hair was in a pony, leaving her neck uncovered. two deep puncter marks were in her throat.
The angel was in no mood "I don't feel like listening to how vampires fucked their lives up and got themselves thrown in Hell," he hissed.
Melody gave an annoyed sigh, as Dalamir shut the door behind him after Rayan got out.
The stranger shot a scolding look to Dimitri and Leerah,"Frig, calm down...we're not out of the gutter just yet."
Alegora nodded. "Yep, and we're going to have to take the long way round to have any chance of getting out. Unless we can steal a police helicopter or something ... So anyone know which way we go ?" She fidgeted, obviously impatient to leave the police station far behind.
Dimitri rolled his eyes. "No,"
"...you think you guys can squeeze in my car?" the stranger said, gesturing to a regular sized black car in the parking lot,"The angel could sit in the front seat, but then...the back would be very tight."
Alegora smiled, "Well it's almost as good as a police helicopter !"
Do you think I wanted to be bitten? hell no? my god, what a.... Leerah held the compluse to say something back, but she said, "Fine. I can stay here..."
"Oh no you don't." the stranger shook his finger mockingly at Leerah,"We're all gonna squeeze in..."
"I'm fine in the front seat..." Dimitri growled, willing to agree to anything now.
Melody nodded,"And it's not like there's any other better option...I don't think anything can get any worse."
The stranger rolled his eyes,"I don't give a damn about what you people think of the idea. I'm stuffing you all in weather you like it or not."
Dimitri grinned, despite the situtation, at the stranger "I like your attitude,"
He smiled back at him,"Why, thank you." he said, winking.
Melody blinked at him,"WHo the hell are you anyways."
He looked to her with a genuine and kind expression,"Skylar. Skylar Yuoi."
"I still think that I will stay here." Leerah said.
"What a name..." Dimitri breathed, the excessive jerking of Melody's steps getting to him "God! What are you a giant?!"
She shot him a sharp look, and shortened her steps,"Sorry..."
Skylar shot a somewhat annoyed and yet somewhat sympathetic look at Leerah,"Shut up, and come on." he snapped.
Dimitri sighed, the revelation that he didn't have to be carried after the next few seconds lifted his spirits somewhat. "I hope you're a good driver..." he mumbled.
Skylar sighed, and ran his fingers through his hair,"Don't worry a bit...I'm good at this crap."
"... Okie dokie, captain dopey," he muttered, eyeing the black car disdainfully.
Melody slowly approached the car, and opened the door to the passengers seat.
Dimitri fell gratefully and ungracefully, holding back a groan at thge stabbing pain he adjusted his position. Not bothering to put on the seatbelt, he sighed, happy to be in control of himself again "Yay."
She smiled genuinely,"Keep your hands, feet, and arms inside the vehicle at all times." she said jokingly, shutting the door.
"Piss off," he growled, eyeing the interior of the car lazily. He had an irrational distate for the automobile.
The hanyou rolled her eyes, and headed for the backseat. Rayan stood by the vehicle, and looked at the hanyou, smiling sheepishly,"I think ladies should go first..."
Melody gave him a dull look,"Yeah, and let them get squished."
"Just hurry up and get in the god damned car! There are still cops after us!"
"OH!"
"YES!"
Rayan and Melody both were suddenly struggling to get in the car first. Dalamir rolled his eyes, and shoved Melody and Rayan in, climbing in.
Dimitri made a similar gesture with his own eyes, glancing at the empty driver seat "Hey! Skylar!" he called randomly. "C'mon!"
Skylar sighed, and grabbed Alegora and Leerah by the wrist, dragging them to the car. He shoved them in, and slammed the door, locking it,"We're all getting out of here..." he said, looking pointedly at Leerah. He ran over to the driver's side, and slid in. He shut the door, and hit the gas, speeding out of the parking lot and onto the city streets.
Rayan winced, as the entire weight of nearly all the backseat passengers crushed against his elven body. He sighed, looking irritably out the window,"Oww..."
Dimitri sighed heavily, leaning over to wacth the road zoom by dolefully "So, where do you plan on taking us, dear saviour?" he asked, side-glancing Skylar.
"To the edge of the city. We're getting outta here..." he replied. Skylar glanced over to the rear view mirror, and cursed under his breath as streaming red and blue lights filled the road behind him. He smirked bitterly, and licked his lips, grip tightening on the wheel,"Hang on, kids..." he pushed the gas petal, and the car began to zoom faster and faster.
Dimitri swore darkly with each passing bump that made him wince unwillingly "Then what? They just leave us alone?" that's what happens when he gets too nervous, he starts asking stupid questions. And too many, at that.
Skylar didn't bother to look to look at him, nor was he capable of, because of the situation,"They'll be afraid to venture outside the city walls...especially since it's night. I swear, they probably think that vampires are hiding in the bushes, or that demons are hanging from buildings, or that elves will begin to suddenly boss them around."
Dimitri sighed, thinking of past events 'Not really that irrational...' he mused. He then looked in the mirror, sighing again "Isn't this city floating?" he asked absently, imagining them driving off the edge.
Alegora nodded in agreement, "No one ever goes out of the city at night, and if you do ... " she bit her lip, "They won't let you back in, except if you've got enough money to bribe them. And it takes a lot of money ..." She stared outside at the flashing lights, trying to ignore the empty feeling in her stomach.
Leerah sat uncomfortable squished up against one of the doors of the car. She mumbled under her breath. She was claustrophobic.(sp?)
Alegora wiggled a bit trying to see through the window. She wished the ride was over, but it was could be the last time she saw the city and she wanted to remember every second of it. A part of her couldn't quite realise this was real, that she was caught up in something much bigger than she had anticipated, and that her normal, safe life had come to an end a few hours ago.
Skylar noticed tension building up in the car, and sighed,"Look, guys--"
A bullet smashed into the side of the vehicle, as another police car pulled out from an alleyway. Skylar cursed loudly, and made a sharp turn, while the side of the car created smarks against a nearby stop sign. He pushed the gas, and the sped ahead, tired screeching at every turn,"Crap, damn, shit, frig..."
Dimitri took in a sharp breath, hands clenching on the arms of the chair. He glanced at Skylar, narrowing his eyes "I hope you didn't lie when you said you knew how to drive this thing..."
"I wasn't lying." he hissed, while glancing to his mirrors frantically to see if the police were gaining,"It's just kinda impossible to concentrate when you're so close to the brink of freedom..."
Rayan winced, and Melody's weight crushed against him,"Dammit Mel, why the hell are you so heavy--"
The car made another turn, and his wreight pressed against the hanyou. Melody sighed,"I'd ask you the same thing," she muttured.
Skylar licked his lips, and smiled, as the police cars started to fall further and further behind.
"You're running low..." Dimitri muttered bitterly, watching the gas meter. He then decided it would be better not to talk to the driver and kept his mouth shut.
Skylar glanced over to his gas meter, and sighed. He swallowed nervously, and slowed down a bit. But, as soon as his destination came into view, he sped on again.
The car skidded to a stop near the place there Dalamir, Rayan, Melody and Dimitri had once entered the city. Skylar swung the door open, then opened the back door,"MOVE, DAMMIT!!"
Rayan nearly fell over out of the car, as Melody pushed him to get through. Rayan got up, and helped pull everyone out.
In seconds, Melody was on the other side of the car, opening the door for Dimitri,"...can you walk?"
Dimitri glared at her, already stumbling out of the sar "Of course," he spat, hobbling along as quickly as he could, bent over like an old man.
Melody sighed, as watched him,"Fine," she muttured, brushing past him.
Dalamir brushed himself off, and began to push everyone into the elevator,"Hurry up, dammit!!" his heart sank, as he saw some police men exit their cars.
Dimitri staggered into the elevator, leaning heavily against the wall. He side-glanced the police, eyes narrowing.
Melody walked in last, as Skylar pushed a small button, and the elevator began to glide downwards.
Rayan sighed in relief, and wiped beads of sweat from his face,"Whew..."
Dimitri craned his neck, staring up at the ceiling "So... they'll leave us alone once we're out of here...?"
"Yeah, once we're outside the gate," Skylar repied.
The weird feeling filled Melody's stomach again. She gripped it a bit, and swallowed,"I hate elevators..."
Dimitri moved a bit uncomfortabley, nodding "Same," he peered around, watching Skylar tentatively 'Who is this guy anyways..?'
