Accepted Characters

Elftown Name: [gothicmoo]
Character Name: Ivarr Ragnarson
Gender: Male
Age: 29
Alignment: Good
Physical Appearance: Ivarr is a powerful looking man, relatively tall at around 6’2” with a thickset build. He has very long blond hair and a thick beard on his chin. Unusually for a Dane, he has green eyes flecked with Gold, giving him an almost feral appearance that makes many people, friend and foe very wary of him. He has plenty of scars to show his battle experience, one particularly distinguishing one is on his face just below his right eye, which goes almost down to his jaw where he was slashed in the face with a sword. Despite this somewhat disfiguring feature, Ivarr is not an un-handsome man, though he seems unaware of this and is massively grateful for his wife and two sons to have put up with him. When it comes to “casual” clothes he will wear the typical fur trousers, boots and shirt, to counter the harsh weather conditions, as he is not concerned about displaying his rank, since he is confident that many people in the surrounding area know who he is.
Personality: Despite his wolfish appearance, Ivarr is a person quick to laugh and slow to anger. Always happy to meet new people (though he will form his opinions fairly quickly) and always up for a drink and a laugh with friends. Ivar will spend as much time as possible having a good time (though not too much to neglect his duties as Earl). He is a very outgoing person, someone who likes to spend time outside, hunting, fighting, sailing, fishing, etc. Hiding even further behind his friendly, social demeanour, is the tactical intelligence and ruthlessness that helped his family rise to power, something that is only shown to enemies in a battle, or to someone who has gravely offended him or his family. Ivarr does not abide by fear either, and although understands its uses, both for and against a person (or even a battle) he dislikes it when someone succumbs to fear. This character trait is something that can translate to battle and Ivarr hates the idea of retreat, though not reckless enough to push a lost battle, he will be in a dark mood for days and can be very aggressive. Luckily, this is something he (and his men) has only had to endure once, many years ago.
Occupation: Ivarr is the Earl of Ingridsberg and surrounding area and a warlord. He has several ships’ crews under his command and his own long-ship of which he is immensely proud.
History: Ivarr‘s family are a long line of warriors, so he was born straight into a warring family as the middle son. Brought up to know the ways of war, taught both by his father and older brother. At the age of twelve, his older brother (aged twenty-one) was killed in a shield wall. Ivarr‘s father had been immensely proud of his eldest son, and from that day forward Ivarr worked to become as worthy of his father’s respect as his brother had been. Initially their father, who was still desolated by the death of his eldest, shunned both Ivarr and his youngest brother “Guthred” (who never forgave his father). But Ivarr‘s will, determination and battle prowess won his father over. At the age of 18, he was a fine warrior and had been in several shield walls already. His family grew rich from raids and trading in different countries and grew to have many supporters, enough allies and wealth to encourage Ivarr’s father to claim the title of Earl of the surrounding area. Some friends of the family were for this, others against. There were a number of small battles, out of which the Ragnar family emerged victorious. At age nineteen, Ivarr was married and sired 2 sons of both he is very proud “Ivar Ivarrson” and “Ragnar Ivarrson”. After three years, Ivarr‘s father died of an illness and Ivarr inherited the title and his father’s Helmet at the same age that his brother lost his life. For eight years Ivarr has held the title, and there has only been one major threat to it. A foreign war-band was pillaging and taking Danish land, so at the age of twenty-four Ivarr began a campaign to destroy the threat. During this campaign was the battle that Ivarr lost, it was also this battle that he got his facial scar. He and his men were forced to flee the battle after suffering heavy losses. Before his wound had even healed, and before his foul temperament after his defeat had quelled Ivarr unleashed another attack with his crippled army, this time massacring the enemy in a display of tactical genius where only three of his men died. He rarely speaks of this victory though, since he dislikes talking of this miserable campaign and will scowl when a stranger asks where he got his scar. Ivarr has recently learned that his younger brother Guthred, who left the family behind as soon as he was able, to become an oarsman on a trading ship, is back in Denmark and is seeking his older brother. Ivarr is very wary of this news as his brother left on bad terms. Currently, Ivarr is living peacefully with his wife and sons and has had no need to don his armour in months…he is worried this may end abruptly with the arrival of his brother.
Other: In terms of battle, Ivarr has very good equipment. He has Chain-mail armour, expensive leather and fur greaves, a wolf fur cloak and the splendid wolf-crested helmet his father gave him. On top of this, his arms are covered with arm rings, showing that he is a battle-veteran. He has two swords and several axes that have all cleaved flesh in their time. His long-sword is a weapon of great value, something his father had ordered made for him in the months before he died. Employing Snorri Firebreath and the finest iron had resulted in “Blood-Biter”. A blade that has spilt the blood of his family’s enemies countless times, however, in many, certainly more recent conflicts, Ivarr has opted for one of his axes out of a shield wall, and his sax in the shield wall. Simply because he treasures “Blood-Biter” and wants to be able to pass it down through his family as an heirloom of great worth. Ivarr will often ride to battle on a horse to signify his title, though it has not been unheard of that he will stand in a shield wall among his men to encourage them.

Elftown Name: [Rock Thine World]
Character Name: Snorri Firebreath
Gender: Male
Age: 57
Alignment: Good
Physical Appearance: Snorri stands at a somewhat diminutive size of 5’8”, but his broad body and imposing looks counter his stature. Years of working in a forge and fighting battles have given him arms as thick as the ash tree limbs, as well as some other interesting features. For one, his face is now so stained with soot that it cannot be washed out, and so it is always a charcoal black colour across his eyes and nose. Secondly, from many campaigns with various victories and losses, he carries a selection of scars on his forearms and an impressively ragged mark across his forehead where an axe bit through his skin and scraped across his skull. Also, his grey hair may be long, but his beard would be impractical, what with working with fire and hot metal most of the time, and so he keeps only a short beard upon his face, which even then can get singed. Being an influential man in creating weapons and armour, Snorri wears a superb shirt of mail in battle, which although seems like any other, has been carefully created to the best of his abilities for guaranteed protection.
Personality: Snorri respects honour and victories in battle more than most, having fought and lived through many himself. However, he also carries with him a pride that has caused many disputes. He considers himself the best smith in the known world, and if he sees a villager carrying a weapon or tool not created by him (apart from heirlooms), he will often refuse to deal with that villager in the future. As well as this, if he were to be denied place on a ship headed for a battleground, he would take this as a deep insult. Even though he is one of the eldest in the area, Snorri considers himself still worth his weight in battle, and has even been known to pick a fight to prove it. However, despite his sometimes proud and violent ways, he is a respected and often jovial character, well known by people in the territory, and many come to him for work or simply just for talk and exchanging of stories.
Occupation: Smith of Ingridsberg and its outlying settlements. Has worked in a forge from the age of 15, claims to have invented the idea of the portable forge, and a veteran warrior. Sometimes disliked, but generally is very high in the social hierarchy. He has never married, and now probably never will.
History: It all began with a simple man by the name of Guthrud Wulfvlodsson and his wife Helga Daughter of Gunter. They lived in Ingridsberg many years before this story, and on one harsh winter night, while a storm ravaged the village, Guthrud prayed to Thor that if he helped Guthrud’s wife through the labour she was undergoing, the child would be a servant to Thor. An unusual idea, but somehow the prayers were answered. Helga gave a final push and two wailing boys were given birth to. However, Thor took payment in the form of Helga’s life in exchange for that of the two boys. Guthrud didn’t raise the two boys alone. Before the boys had lived a full year, they had a new mother in the form of Freya Daughter of Thorgrim. Now, the two boys were named Snorri Wulfvlodsson and Elrik Wulfvlodsson. Freya disliked both of them, and used physical pleasure with alcohol every night to draw Guthrud’s attention away from the children. They grew up with just each other to learn from and fend for one another. One day, while the two 15-year-old twins walked on the rocky shore, Elrik slipped and fell into the toiling sea. When Guthrud learned of his death, he took it as a sign from Thor that he had been lax in his duties as a father, and in keeping his word. Snorri was immediately brought before the local smith and presented as an apprentice. At first unwilling, Snorri was upset until Guthrud explained of the pact that had been made with the craftsman god. With this knowledge, and the realisation that Elrik was dead as part of that pact, the young Snorri pushed himself every day to learn the trade, and created his first sword at the age of 19, under the watchful eye of his master. His teacher was astounded that he had created such a high quality blade with such poor materials, but kept it quiet until the day of his death when Snorri was in his early thirties. By then, Snorri had joined many war bands and raiding parties, and had become a powerful warrior as well as craftsman. As he took over duties of the forge and became the new master, ideas ran in his head constantly as to how to prove himself to Thor as a worthy servant. When he was in his late forties, he designed a plan to take materials for a small field-forge on a ship that could be set up before a battle in a raiding camp. The plan was a success, and meant that weapons could be repaired or created at short notice near the site of a battle if required. When Guthrud died, despite tradition to carry on the family name, Snorri wished to distance himself from his past and create his own legend. He was given the name Firebreath from the way he often radiated heat, from his long hours in the forge, and also from his tendency to argue heatedly with those who disputed his ideals.
Other: Snorri carries a one-handed axe into battle, along with a shield and sax. Even though they appear like any other of the Ingridsberg war equipment, it is his entire making, and so perfectly modified for his movement and strength, making it faster and easier for him to wield. Also, he wears the chainmail shirt of his creation, which he has created to appear not as luxurious as the head of the village, but close in rank.
