Ranch

Akin to the popularity of ranching Cora, the Halasgadd ranches usually pen up livestock rather than mounts. Using them for several purposes, the livestock is very profitable but tends to require much more work involved. Thus the need for ranch hands is always present, and at good wages to insure they get more work than the croppers.

Beowulf walked up onto the ranch itself and looked around. Seeing a ranch hand he walked forward to him and greeted him warmly. "Greetings kind sir, perhaps we could talk if you are not too busy?"

Tipping his hat to the stranger, a man of middle age looked back at the adventurer before him and nibbled at his piece of straw. "Greetin's." he replied, "Though a might bit late, since yer already talkin'. What can I do you fer?"

"I was just hoping that perhaps you might have some traps or some rope lying around. I am willing to pay for it of course," Beowulf said. He tried to keep the conversation short and simple, due to the fact that the quest was on.

"I suppose, but it will cost you over the normal." he replied whilst rubbing his neck, "Rope will be cheap enough, I figgur." Spitting out the sprigg of straw from his teeth, he let out a few estimates for cost, "I have an old conibear snapper. Should get it from me fer 80cr. Rope will be 15cr. per 20 foot, yep."

"Alright then. I guess I'll just get 60 feet of rope. That should be well enough then to hold some bandits for awhile," Beowulf surmised.

It took a brief moment of calculation for the rancher to add up the numbers. He seemed intent on doing it himself and rubbed his chin, "80 plus... 60 divided by 20, times 15... ummm..." For a man educated in arithmetic with a father as a knight and smith, Beowulf viewed the man with some empathetic pain. "125cr. I figgur." he said, and was surprisingly correct. Then again, a struggling artist given enough time could paint a masterpiece.

"So be it, thank you very much," Beowulf quickly said and handed the ranch hand the money, and patiently waited on the bought product.

"Hmmm..." the ranch hand mumbled, "I may be mistaken sir, but I believe you have a miscalculation." He counted the coins slowly, but came to an estimate, "You're 100cr. short."

Beowulf sighed and then pointed to the bag of 100 coins he put in the rancher's hand, after having taken out half of it. Once the rancher checked it, he nodded his head and called it a misunderstanding.

"I 'spect you want that trap n' rope now. Hold on, I'll git 'em for you." the rancher replied, a little embarrassed that he did not see the bag of 100cr. in his own hand.

Beowulf shook his head slightly, and awaited the rancher's return.

The rancher returned with a bear trap in his right hand and large coiled length of rope around his left shoulder. "You're lucky that huntin' has been gettin' dangerous recently, otherwise I might be feelin' less generous to givin' these away n' all." he said, handing them over to Beowulf. He scratched his head and stood patiently, in case the deal was not worked out the way it should have been.

"I thank you greatly kind sir. May your kindness be repayed to you tenfold," Beowulf said warmly as he turned to reach his friends again in the Midgard Fiefdom: Halasgadd.
