Mika Waltari: The Etruscan review

Mika Waltari is one of the most famous Finnish writers with his novel The Egyptian. The Etruscan follows his works in telling a story of an ancient hero in an ancient world. It is situated in Mediaterranian area during the years 520-450 BC.

The hero Turms has lost his memory, but is somewhat special, that is revealed early in the book. The book follows his life, his fortunes and misfortunes and the search of who he really is and where his home truly lies.

The book is an epic tale in the spirit of Odyssey with gods and goddesses affecting the lives of regular people. It includes the real events of those years and refers to the famous situations like the battle of Thermopylae. But at the same time it concentrates in the personal and rather mystical life of Turms.
The book also includes events that can be described even fantastic with fulfilling prophecies and conjurations.

This is a book for history fans, who enjoy and epic tales of ancient people, battles and touch of old mystic.
