THE TYPES OF CARDS

There are types, supertypes and subtypes, arranged like this: Supertype type - Subtype. A card may have more then one supertype or subtype.

TYPES:

Creature - these cards stay in play once you play them, and are going to be your main resource in winning of the game. More on them in the other wiki. Creatures may only be played during your main phase. (older cards may say "summon" instead of "creature" - they mean the same thing.)

Enchantment - These cards also stay in play once you played them, and will have a continuous effect on the game until they leave play. Some enchantments, called "auras" will "attach" themselves to other cards in play and will affect that card only. Enchantments can only be played only during your main phase. (older cards may say "enchant creature" or "enchant artifact". - Treat these as enchantments.)

Instant - These cards have an effect, then go to the graveyard once thier effect has taken place (or "resolved", as we call it). Instants can be played at any time, even during your opponants's turn! (older cards may have the type "inturrupt" or "mana source" - treat these as instants.)

Sorcery - Similar to Instants, these cards have an effect, then go to the graveyard. Sorceries can only be played during your main phase.

Land - the most important part of your deck. more on them in the other wiki.

SUPERTYPES:

Artifact - anything with the supertype artifact (artifact creature, artifact land) indicates that this card counts as an artifact in addition to any other types, and is also colourless.

Legendary - the supertype legendary (along with the older subtype "legend") means that this card is one-of-a-kind, and no other card with the same name may be in play. If another legendary card with the same name comes into play, both cards are destroyed instantly and sent to the graveyard.

Basic - used only for land cards, this supertype means that you may have any number of this card in your deck, as opposed to the usual 4.

SUBTYPES:

there are hundreds of differant subtypes, and most have no effect except in relation to each other.
for example, if a card says "return all Knights from your graveyard to play", then all cards with the subtype "knight" would be brought back into play.
