Party #1: Inland Empire

The Northend is named aptly. Its location on the northern side of prewar San Bernardino spared it from much of the war damage that ravaged the rest of the city. The infrastructure at California State University of San Bernardino provided an excellent center to rebuild and grasp at the tatters of civilization. In time, the Brotherhood of Steel was attracted by the potential of this booming, postwar town and took up residence in the library, a towering five story structure overlooking the surrounding terrain. The other buildings on the campus now serve as homes, markets, shops, and headquarters for the various residents. To the north is the old flood control system and the foothills leading up to the San Bernardino Mountains.

War, war never changes. In the time it takes to draw breath, thousands of years of human civilization and billions of lives disappeared forever beneath the onslaught of nuclear Armageddon. All the masterpieces of artists, writers, and diplomats pale in comparison to the canvas of crimson and black upon which humanity’s destruction was so clearly illustrated in bright vivid colors, for in the end, the pen is not mightier than the sword.

Generations later, the descendants of survivors crept from their live saving vaults, hoping to pick up the pieces and start civilization anew. They discovered a blighted landscape, poisoned and barren, a wasteland. The surviving creatures that greeted them were as twisted as the landscape, and in most cases just as deadly. To make matters worth, a great evil menaced the land’s newest inhabitants with great swarms of mutant giants and other biological abominations. Luckily for humanity, a hero arose, and with companions, smote these monsters of third millennia.

With the Master dead, his facilities crushed, and his armies in turmoil, the Wastelands continue their march to recovery and some semblance of normality in this post-apocalyptic world. Survivors, human and ghoul alike, struggled to rebuild civilization, scourged first by nuclear fire and then by the mutant threat. One such place, the Northend, slowly grows, assisted by the knowledge of the past and the influence of the secretive Brotherhood of Steel. But the shadows cast by the nuclear past linger. Life in the Northend is about to change.

Chapter 1: Campus Tour

The party arrives at the western end of the Flood Control System, which provides much of the town's water. The concrete and steel structures that guide the occasional flow of water from the mountains was built well before the war, and aside from a few chips of broken material has survived well. The tunnels where the precious water is stored are dark and numerous, ideal for smaller wasteland critters to make their home. The wasteland sun is now high in the sky, and beats down mercilessly on the inhabitants below.

Fredericai stops walking as he wipes sweat from his brow. He never really enjoyed days like this as a farmer, and he certainly doesn't enjoy them now. "So," he said to his comrades. "Any ideas for attacking?"

Twitch laughed. He then caught himself and looked about the group. "Well, don't look at me."

Nine walked towards the flood control system, figuring the group might already be here, and maybe even fighting something, he loaded his gun and put it in its holster. Walking closer, he spotted the others and approached, waving a hand at them from the distance as he got closer.

"Want me to poke my noise in and scout around a little?" asked Cassandra.

"Hold on a sec," said Fredericai. "So, are you with us," he asked Nine.

"if I wasn't I wouldn't have given out my position like that." replied simply Nine with a shrug. "So what is our situation?"

"We need to exterminate a vermin problem that the town is having in this flood control system. Apparently the job is finished when we've killed all the critters in sight and drop some sort of package down into their nest," answered Fredericai. "I figure our best strategy is sticking together so we can avoid being overrun if there turns out to be a lot. What do you guys think about that?"

"Probably, however if we are outnumbered we could be easily surrounded if we're on a compact group, if we find a small passageway and lay a good cover of fire, we could lure whatever is in there into a bottleneck...." replied Nine almost mechanically as he stroked his chin, his memento/keycard attached to a small chain wrapper around his wrist, dangling back and forth as he spoke. He then stared at Fredericai as if he had gone out of a trance, not quite sure himself of what he had just said.

"Hmmm," mused Fredericai. "Sounds like a good idea. Why don't we split up into two teams. Either you or myself with Cassandra, and then the other with Twitch and Bouncer. I figure with a good shooter and a good meleer per team, we should do alright."

Bouncer leaned down so he could reach Twitch's ear and whispered very loudly, "We killin' rad-scorpin's?"

2005-11-10 [Vesthrix]: Hey, it happens when you have homework your suppose to be doing

2005-11-10 [Jay Ladlehaus]: Ah, always a most creative time. Must be something to do with the extremely boring activity being avoided.

2005-11-11 [og_ghost]: I've got nothing to have twitch do. He's just there to help the prices fall down to more happy levels.

2005-11-11 [Jay Ladlehaus]: fair enough...we'll assume his presence is effect enough.

2005-11-14 [Vesthrix]: The reason why I can lead Twitch around is because I'm a chick you know.

2005-11-14 [Jay Ladlehaus]: What are you talking about? You don't have the Sex Appeal trait ;P

2005-11-14 [og_ghost]: I figured it was because he's small and weak as a kitten. But whatever. lol

2005-11-14 [Jay Ladlehaus]: So did I. Plus Bouncer doesn't really seem to be putting a lot of effort into stopping the manhandling, lol :)

2005-11-14 [Vesthrix]: Not having Sex Appeal doesn't stop men from wanting to do you. They just don't want to do you as much.

2005-11-14 [Jay Ladlehaus]: You are correct. But the reason Cassandra can lead him around is because he is more of a girl than she is (no offense ghost).

2005-11-14 [og_ghost]: Hey, it's true. And don't you go thinking I'm too proud to run away from anything and everything. Cause I'm not. lol

2005-11-14 [Jay Ladlehaus]: lol you know, until some power armor is located, you could always give him some buffout and psycho for combat situations. Otherwise, that poor boy needs to run when danger rears its ugly head.

2005-11-17 [Pnelma Tirian]: bouncer's not very smart at these things. his lack of intelligence gives me a chance to be lazy.

2005-11-17 [og_ghost]: Twitch will probably try to direct bouncer in times of trouble, but I can't see multiple commands going over very well. He is a rather simple man.

2005-11-17 [Pnelma Tirian]: Probably shouting (not)useful advice from afar:"Hit him with the thing!"...."no, no, the other thing!"

2005-11-17 [Jay Ladlehaus]: Even with an intelligence of 1, Bouncer should be able to determine who to attack and with what, if given simple enough commands. Also, those char going to Iguana Bob's should post at the bottom separation where Fredericai is.

2005-11-17 [Pnelma Tirian]: well, simple enough commands are a given-just not a lot of information all at once.

2005-11-17 [Duredhel]: Uhm >_<, I though Nine was going to meet up with them in the flood control system, that's what I was kind of waiting for the group to get there.

2005-11-18 [Jay Ladlehaus]: right-o

2005-11-18 [Jay Ladlehaus]: Okay players, please note we have a new setting, and we will soon find ourselves in combat. I'll have a map up (with hexes). Before it starts, I'll give a little explanation of what to do for those who may be new or rusty to Fallout.

2005-11-28 [Jay Ladlehaus]: I'm leaving for Utah on Wednesday and will be gone for five days. I know the rest of you are probably taking finals, but if you get the chance to post before Sunday, please equip any armor and weapons (you're allowed to equip two weapons, and stacked weapons like throwing knives are automatically requipped during battle if used). I'm going to try and give some examples about combat tonight or tomorrow night.
