Piper's Pictures

First Day: Skittish, trying to constantly escape. Deathly afraid of hands, wouldn't take a treat at all. Later that night after a few hours of working with him he began to learn to take treats from my hand.

Day Two: Worked on getting him to take a treat from my hand within the cage. Decided to try to get him out. Still very afraid of hands. Against my instinct, I chased him around his cage as delicatly as possible, wrestled him out. Calmed down a great deal outside of cage. Allowed me to scratch his head.

Day Three: Great success! He was still skittish while trying to get him out, but was better once out. Stayed here out for few hours, put away for dinner. Later I took him out again, and this time he was very calm when I took him out, didn't scramble around his cage. Progress today greater then past few days. Cuddled up against my cheek and shoulder, even fell asleep in my hair!

Day Four: Sadly, I had to chase him around his cage, twice, to get him out. Good news though, he behaved for his first shower, even imitated my sneeze (how cute is that). We will see how the rest of this day goes.

Day Five: Don't know how long it will take for him to learn to enjoy my hand, and to learn to step up, but at the moment, he's still scared stiff of it. Sometimes he doesn't care as much, but most of the time he runs. Just gotta be patient with him I guess.

Day Six: He is getting better about coming out of his cage, will still lean back and flinch when I reach him, but he's doing better! Now knows that most of the time I reach him, he's going to get a head scratch.

Day Seven: One week mark! Unfortunatly today I was gone, so not really any sort of progress.

Week Two: Two week mark tomorrow, so far Piper can't stand to have me out of his sight, still is a cuddle bug, and has so far stepped up onto my hand four times! He's coming along nicely, can't wait to get him fully bonded to me :3

Week Three: Piper has learned to step up! Well, he chooses when to do so (especially when coming out of his cage) but he's getting better and it's making me happy. I'm starting to think Piper is a female, but I do not want to get him bloodtested yet, probably in the near future though!

Week Four: Everyone knows he is missing a toe right? Well I think that is why Piper has not really played with his toys... and I'm worried he is going to get fat from no activity. It's not his fault, one toe is very important to a green cheek conure. On a better note, Piper is starting to say his name, (squeee!) and getting more comforable with me as his owner. My hands still give him some issue though, but we'll figure it out.

Week Five (10/18/2009): I bring him into the bathroom with me so he doesn't freak out, so he always goes to the handle of the shower door. He likes to attack the mirror ^.^ but he also says his name a few times while doing it, and if im standing up next to him he cuddles into my face, almost like he's defending me. Such a cutie.
