2009-12-14 [Duke Devlin]: Awhh it's so cute. :P I can't wait until we can breed ours. :) We have two lil' ladies who are just heavy/old enough for it, now we just need our males to grow. :P Haha

2010-01-27 [moira hawthorne]: I hope that people here may take a moment to look into this... if they love snakes - http://talkris.deviantart.com/journal/29933489/

2010-01-27 [Talkris]: Hey guys, if you live in the US I definitely recommend reading my journal either on here or on dev art (Moira Hawthorne posted the link above). Yet another snake ban is up in congress, this one includes 9 species of boa and python. Its pretty horrible because if it passes you won't be able to move from state to state, even in an evacuation, with your animals. If you're going to college out of state, getting stationed out of state, your vet is out of state, you won't be able to take your boa or python and, if moving, you will have to euthanize them. If you go to Natpet.org there are many steps you can take to voice your opinion and get in touch with your local congressmen as well as up to date information.

~Talkris

2010-01-28 [Nyaah*]: this is so stupid.. what kind of an asshole made this up?? germany starts to bitch around with reptiles too already... and those who make up those bans usually have NO IDEA of what they talk about.. they dont even know the diffrents between a ballpython and a tiger python, its simply PYTHON and those are evil as we all know!! read the bibel, you´ll see! medieval hillbillies.. <img:img/mood/10305_1126060737.gif>

2010-01-29 [Talkris]: It was made by two Florida congressmen because of the problem in the everglades with the Burmese pythons. However, the problem is Florida has no regulatory system involving reptiles. You can buy, sell, breed and keep whatever you like, be it python, boa or even a cobra. In NY we have all kinds of regulations about specific species you can and can not keep, sell, breed or buy.

Also, the other problem is that they did not go through any scientific survey or the fish and wildlife service like they are supposed to by law.

2010-02-01 [Cam Static]: that's actually not completely true, Talkris, they have regulations in Florida. You actually have to send in a form to the government, to prove that you're fit to own big snakes and venom.
If you dont have the rights to keep any of the snakes you need a approvement for, the government can and will take your snake away from you.

2010-02-01 [Talkris]: Last I had hear they didn't enforce anything there. I stand corrected.

2010-02-22 [The Monochrome Rainbow]: I live in Florida, and work at a Zoo, and our own herpetologist was involved in the surveys in the everglades to establish exactly how bad the python problem is getting. His own words: "The survey was skewed - there are not tens of thousands of pythons out there. 1,500 maybe."

Pythons have not infected the entirety of the Glades yet. Thy are known to be in one part of it, and that is where they did the sampling, and applied their findings there to the whole of the park. Even the park rangers have said they would notice 100,000 pythons creeping around. That would outnumber the native Gators.... and that is far from happening.

The media is making a mountain out of a molehill. As it is, Florida should not be pushing laws on the rest of the states for what is a local problem. The species we have are tropical, and cannot spread far. It's our problem, we need to grow up and deal with it. (I'm not a native, and do not think highly of the natives.... They irk me to no end.)

You need a permit in Florida to own the following:

Reptiles of Concern (Which includes the giant pythons: Scrub/amethystine, burmese, african rock, reticulated, etc, as well as anacondas, and nile monitors.)

Venomous snakes (and the hoops you have to jump through to get this permit are beyond ridiculous, considering it applies to everything but the Hognose, regardless of toxicity)

Reptiles that are Native to the U.S. AND are a protected species.

Anything else goes, but there is very little enforcement. Sellers are not required to verify the capabilities/permits of their buyers... and there is always black market trade.

2010-02-22 [moira hawthorne]: quote: The media is making a mountain out of a molehill.
anit that ALWAYS the case!

2010-06-14 [The Monochrome Rainbow]: New addition to my scaly family!

2010-08-14 [Talos Cyrion]: sweet i have one like him. A jungle carpet python and he's roughly six months old now....and a total porker lol he's almost five feet long

2010-09-13 [The Monochrome Rainbow]: This one was a secondhand snake, so he came to me underweight, a little small, and with MITES. Once the mites are gone, I'll be beefing him up.
