I'm reading logs for Elftown.

If you know anything about the telecommunication market, this isn't new to you, but for others:

Country:    % using dialup
USA          14%
Canada       12%
UK           17%
Netherlands   1.2%
Sweden        0.7%

The reason is obvious: In the first 3 countries you can dialup for free, but in NL and SE you have to pay for local phone-calls so the fee for dialup Internet is huge even with moderate usage. It's both much cheaper and better to get ADSL here.

As for myself: I have a 100 MBit LAN network from Bredbandsbolaget for only about 35 euro a month. That beats everything I've heard about from anywhere in the world.

Some diary...

Nothing really important, but just some notes about a not so average day.

I woke up pretty late and then I programmed on some better protection of the Elftown passwords. Then it was free beer in the sauna. Thanks, Martina and congratulations to the presentated master theses!

That of course meant a lot of beer.

As I don't really take time to exercise, I used the way back and forth from the sauna to run. It feels like I'm improving a lot, which is natural as I started to train only some months ago.

After the sauna and running back I hurry to Herrgårn (www.linkmeet.com/_herrgårn) to eat pie-soop and pancakes before they close at 21:00. Smart me didn't drink any beer there!

I drank two coffee though, and that made me even more babbly and the almost-headache I had went away.

Then I stressed away to Ättestupan. As I still was very smart I didn't drink any beer. Less smart me drank a big glass of wine though. There were a lot of people there as usual, but unfortunately or luckily, not the sweetest girl... Many of them were about to go to Kårallen to the huge International Kravall ("Intervallen") and I heard that there was tickets left. 

So I drank up my wine and bike there. It was cold! Damn freaking winter atticking like that and I that hadn't planned to go there so I didn't have a jacket.

I was babbling way too much and after mixing German, Russian, Dutch and even Spanish, the party was going... And I found some beer-bars. Damn expensive beers though! I didn't care much about that though, until my wallet luckily was empty.

And I danced... They played really fun music actually.

The big problem was that me feet got really really tired after first the running, and then all the walking around and then jumping around. So when I finally got home, it was hard to sleep because of pain in the feet.

When Kårallen closed, I managed to get invited to 2 parties on Saturday. Nice! But it would have been better if they could have been on different days.

Stupid computer...

My computer crashed and refused to boot up again. It finally worked again after some cleaning and removing of loads of dust.

More training

I have realized that I'm way too slow to run short sprint. And I have no endurance and my feet just can't stand long running. Another thing is that I'm pretty good with lactic acid.

So what's more logical than to see how long I can run in 44 seconds? With 2 years left to the olympic games, there is plenty of time to train on! ;)

So today I did my first testrun forever at such distance. It went pretty well. We'll see how much pain I'll have tomorrow...

By the way: In case you wonder about how <diary:694780> is going, it's going pretty well. I reached my goal to be somewhat well trained and now I'm only training to keep the shape.

Javascript!

I finally got Elftown infected with Javascript... Now it probably will explode browsers and such things.

It's used for editing wiki-pages. So when you press edit there, the raw for select which forum to connect to the wiki-page is only shown when the wiki-page is connected to a forum.

I know many more places this hiding could be nice to have also.

New diaries!

I thought I should take some time and write a diary-note on every community I'm involved in. They will all be different depending on the community.

So... Since I've moved my computer home, I'm been working on developing the sites and making things happen on them. It feels a little like not much happens, but Elfpack on the other hand has greatly increased income fram ads this month.

But that is compensated with me spending money on ads. That has really not worked out well. It costs too much and gives only very few, if any, new members. I has some good side-effects like making Elfpack more known and maybe if someone register, they also bring their friends. But so far I've seen nothing of that.

Otherwise Linköping is quite dead now in the summer. And all my travelling plans are kind of gone. I also don't feel like being totally gone from work and my sites, so it's not that easy to get away.

My new fine Internet...

My new Internet was just working as a charm. Until this morning 07:19 Elftown time. There was a powerfailure or something that there here and it appearently killed my ISPs equipment.

Luckily I've just bought a UPS for Krill, so the computer is still up and running without problems - it just doesn't have any contact with the rest of the world.

Update on the servers

Good news is that Krill is home at me and the databases are being repaired now. Should be up in a couple of hours.

Elftown crashed today. 2 hours of message, wiki-pages and everything you've done during 09:00 and 11:00 is lost. I might rescue something important, but please don't message me otherwise!

And right now ewancient, Elftown's and Elfwood's image-server crashed. Something is not going well! Might be the heat, attacks to Linux-machines or something else.

Broken...

Krill is gone somehow. I don't know why and haven't been able to talk to anyone at Crystone in Norrköping (the neighbouring town to Linköping). They have been told to try to restart the computer, but I'm not sure if they are able to contact me, if they will and when they are trying to fix this. I haven't paid for weekend and night-support so they will only get there if they are there for some other reason.

So this means that www.elfpack.com www.cathug.com www.musmakers.com www.writersco.com www.linkmeet.com www.heddate.com and all my other sites are down, and I have no idea how serious it is. The server can be stolen as far as I know. Or it can just be a network-cable that has dropped out.

Not much

No, no party today. I decided that it wouldn't be that fun, and slept instead and after 17:00 it was kind of impossible to get in there, and it's just bad to go now as everyone is wasted there and it will be no fun.

And tomorrow I don't know what will happen.

Instead I've been down to LinCon (A game convent in Linköping) and put up some Elftown ads. And I'm fixing small things on the sites.

Weekend...

There are parties Friday, Saturday and Sunday now... So you might not see so much of me. At least not a fresh me.

But then there is just a huge long boring summer without anything... This town almost shuts down during the summer. At least everything fun.

Next year I'll do this in Mars or so... (Yea, right!)

Nothing new...

So I've been working on the sites during the spring. Have been pretty lazy lately, eventhough I've done some programming. It should have been more and I should have spent more time on keeping things active.

Right now I'm fighting with the book-keeping for my company. It's really little to do actually, but I have do decide how to work and that is some work. Things like getting a box to put all the papers in can take pretty long time, if you're lazy and unefficiant enough...

As for personal stuff: Not much at all. I miss Rasa's company (She lived here during April). She was mostly home and writing on her computer beside me, which was nice. Now when I'm alone, I can do more what I want to, but I don't actually do that much. Except a friend visiting for a weekend.

As for friends, I've started to collect addresses to people I know. I really learnt a lesson when I tried to get a DömD-team together and realized that I don't know how to contact most of the people I know in Linköping.

My plans for this summer are still not made. I have some ideas for both work and vacation, but I'll get back to that if something comes out of it.

And Lilo is doing just fine. She's a little bored sometimes though. But Sonic and Kali (on different times) have been visiting and eventhough there are some disagreements, she seems to like the unbordom.

Update from Moscow

So... I've just been to the Moscow suburbons all night and then searching for an Internet-cafe all day. At the hotel the Internet costed 10 rubels (0.30 euro) per minut (18 euro per hour). Here it costs 80 rubels per hour (2.4 euro per hour) and it's not a cheap place. Many bars and nightclubs here have prices that are worse than in Sweden.

As you can see on this typing, I'm very tired now.

Last night we were travelling with bus all night, as we will tonight. It's really not nice at all. But I slept a long time yesterday afternoon.

Saint Peterburg was nice, but I hadn't really went into the party-mood then. I just hange around and looked at stuff. It was somewhat fun to see the Ermitazh and the town, but I couldn't really enjoy the nightclubs.

I have of course taken a lot of photos, but I can't fin a USB-connection here.

My Russian has improved. But it's still very hard to find the right words in time and to hear what people are babbling. They really don't understand "Pomedlenno, poshalsta!"...

Otherwise... It's a pretty cool groop I'm travelling with, but I haven't really found anyone to hang with as usual.

Combo

My new room-mate Rasa is moving in right now. She will stay here during April. Hopefully I have to work some more and spend less time on boring parties... Except for the fact that I'm in Russia half of April, of course.
