Right, thank you all very much for commenting on that Maccy problem I has. :3 I'd like to clarify that it isn't my machine (as usual), it's a uni one so I'll have to be careful about installing stuff on it (they don't like it when students do stuff like that very much, I understand).

How can you run .exe files on Macs? It says that it doesn't know which application to use to open that type of files, and suggests that I decide for myself -_- Can it be done?

Developing from a Finn to a Coventry girl - A warning example

The Case Study.
The test subject was subjected to a situation where she either could not hear correctly or didn't quite catch something being said to her in a conversation.
In her first year in England, the reaction she had to the situation was to translate the response she would have in Finnish:
-What?
In her second year, Englishness had rubbed off on her from lovely native people, such as [deus-ex-machina], and she would reply with:
-Pardon?
In her third year, when she was cruelly removed from the beneficial influence of the above-mentioned individual, and left mainly to deal with people in the area she was living in, her response deteoriated to:
-Ehh??

It sufficest to say that the individual is, indeed, sent to Coventry.

On another note, I accidentally had to pretend not to know Finnish on the airport when coming back his weekend:
I was on Stansted airport waiting for my check-in to open, and I noticed an older couple that were waiting also, and I was assured that they were Finnish too. They looked a bit like they didn't know English (it isn't uncommon for older people in Finland to not know English) When the check-in was opened, we all went to the queue. The couple was talking to themselves, and the man said "I wonder if we'll start hearing Finnish soon". I smiled and the man looked at me and said "over there?" or something like that, I kind of missed it. So I leaned towards them and asked "what", except I didn't, I said "eh?" So they thought I didn't know Finnish. And then I had to pretend to not be Finnish because it would have been too embarrassing to fix the misunderstading. So I avoided saying anything in Finnish, and hid my passport cover from them etc... XP

I can't remember if I told you guys about it, but the Finnish band CMX has released a new album, which is basically a theme album: it's all one big "story" like an opera or a symphony (except it's not a narrative) and it's all sci-fi-ish and gorgeous and it has this 40-page libretto in it and each CD (of the 8000 released) is individually numbered and it's so shiny and pretty and I bought it right before coming to England again and I've been listening to it a lot lately and I'm all in its mood.
So if I change my mood into "my tomb is guarded by a hundred thousand killer satellites" or something like that, don't worry :P

Quoth [Viking]:
The Fonz is cool. But she may actually equate the words Fonz and Cool, whereas the truth is that "cool" is simply a property of "The Fonz", and not his essence.

Buttons are teh confuse. I hope they are not to stay.

Back in England again, getting used to everything again (except the house being cold - I'll never get used to that -_-): English keyboards (my faceys might be freaks for a while), speaking English all the time, using uni computers, making my own dinner (le gasp).

I need to go back to Finland again very soon, as my last grandmother has just died T_T

I've noticed a lot of these diary notes again (y'know, the ones where people say some celebrity I've never heard of has died), so I'll join in:
Oh no! The rally-driver Colin McRae died! :(

1. I now know how to send text messages to Argentina. Bow before me mobile devices, for I am the Lord thy GOD!

2. I, with my dog, saw a deer today. We were about to go onto the field, when it decided to run across it, away from us and towards the forest line:
iippo: "Oh noes, a deer!" *hangs on to dog for dear life*
dog: *looks at deer anxiously* "Let's go!"
iippo: "No!" *holds dog still*
deer: *stops in the middle of the field, and looks at dog and iippo*
iippo: "Go away! Shoo! Go away! We can't come to the field as logn as we can see you! If I take one step, this beast is going to pull me off my feet!"
Dog: *starts barking*
iippo: "Good, make it go away!" *starts looking for something to throw at the deer to make it piss off and let others on the field too*
Deer: *runs a little again to the middle of the field, turns to look at iippo and dog*
Dog: *going crazy, wants to go after the deer so bad, is barking like a loon*
iippo: *thinks out loud:* What would happen if I just let go... Meh, you'd run after it and I'd never see you ever again *seriously considers it, then admits that it's not the right thing to do*
Deer: *runs a bit again, turns to look, then runs a little again, then stops to look, is taking ages to get across the field*
iippo: *gets impatient, and starts shouting at the deer again, trying to calm dog down a little*
dog: *still barking and going crazy, begging that we start the hunt*
After a very long wait (stupid deer) the deer has disappeared in the forest, and iippo and dog enter the field, dog trying to go as fast as he can, iippo hanging on and leaning back to go as slow as she can.
Stupid deer. -_-

But it was awesome. :3 I've never seen a deer before. :) *likes this nature-thing*

3. Reading Mika Waltari's "The Great Illusioni" (or whatever it is in English), and it's like he's writing about me! :O *loves*

*edit*
Theory is when you know everything but nothing works. Practice is that everything works but no one knows why. I have combined theory and practice: nothing works and no one knows why.

Tomorrow (9th of September) is [Dory]'s birthday. (Make sure you go and send her a message ^^)
That means that today begins the period of time she and I named as "cat days". As the direct opposite of "dog days" (Dog_days in wikipedia), it is a period of time when all work efforts are fruitful, all new projects are successful and there is a general good mood about everyone. It is a time when work gets done and it gets done easily and the workers enjoy not only the fruits of their labours but also the labour itself. Do anything you need to during this period of time, and you will succeed! Want a new job? Just go out there and apply to it! Feeling like a new relationship should come your way? It's waiting for you out there right now! Planning on doing something you've never done before? Never has there been a better time to do it than now! Start new artworks and it'll be better than what you have ever done before! Write to new people in Elftown, and you'll make new friends before you can say "hi!" This is the time, when God helps those who help themselves. And this period of time lasts til Novermber 8th (ending with my birthday of course), so make the most of it before the holiday-season, everyone!

Now that you're all inspried and stuff, go send a message to [Dory], to congratulate her on reaching the ature age of... err... how much is she now... 20? Holy crap, my little sister is 20! ^^;

I just wanted to share this with you (again? I can't remember if I've shown it before...)

It's a poem by Kurt Schwitters and it never stops working for me. The keen-eyed of you may have noticed that the date in the title is of some interest to me... ;)

November 7, 1918

On the morning of the great revolution
I cleaned my drafting pens thoroughly
knowing
they would not be used for a long long time.
The stockman was drunk on something
so I helped myself to pencils and paper
and sketched at the window
faces and flags, the shapes of laughter.

The iron works stoked up its engines
though the machinists only stood and talked
so at noon when the great revolution arrived
in a car full of sailors waving red flags
the steam whistles blasted a welcome
far louder than the cathedral bells.

The streets filled with singing and dancing
the mounted police were nowhere in sight
the mayor's office was empty, the door unlocked
and soon the red flag hung from his window.
I wrote my resignation in fine Gothic script
and set off for home
all the drawings in my head
celebrating their hour of liberation.

For the soldiers had not yet hobbled home
and this was victory.
As we always knew it would
peace had won.
