22:50 — I'll take the car to be serviced tomorrow. That made me think of what I should do there while I wait, which made me think whether I should take along something to ready, which made me think that I'd like to have my own copy of Pimeyden vasen käsi (The Left Hand of Darkness), which made me think whether I could find it in stores. So, I mentioned it to my mom who said that maybe I should just retranslate it. Well, I wouldn't be studying for a year. :D
The translation is pretty good, and I could think that the only thing that might make it "better" in a way would be to fit the novel into Finnish – then it could be made completely gender-neutral, because Finnish would work if used that way. I would be able to come up with terms that wouldn't be cumbersome. Then my mom suggested that I read three trilogies by Robin Hobb, since they are about some genderless/etc. person. Now I have nine books added to my already too long to-be-read list.

I think that tomorrow, I'll take along my bike, go if I can find Pimeyden vasen käsi in the bookstore(s), buy some CDs and uh... go back to the service place to read Wraeththu. Or something like that.

14:56 — Excuse me while I quote. I seem to have forgotten my brain in my bed today.

It's from Coming of Age in Karhide, the short story I mentioned in yesterday's entry.

"You cross earth now.

You cross water now.

You cross the Ice now...

...

Together we have crossed the Ice.

Together we come into the Hearthplace,

Into life, bringing life!

In the act of creation, praise!
"

It makes more sense in context, but heck, this is quite enough for me.

01:09 — I just read a short story, Coming of Age in Karhide by U. K. Le Guin and damn, I liked reading it. Excuse me while I bounce. Now I must go sleep and hope that I can get an all-six-senses-experience of it in a dream.

10:25 — Damn, no dream. Maybe I'll just daydream.

10:28 — Also, this is great. While it does explain (indirectly) what recursing means, I think it's way funnier if you know the exact logic behind it beforehand. http://xkcd.com/244/

01:03 — I failed to mention my trip to Ropecon last time, so I mention it now. I had fun and got to play games.
Today (or yesterday, technically) we watched The Return of the King once again. I first tried to not think about DM of the rings (http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/) but guess how well that worked. First I thought stuff like "I think I just failed a will save" in my mind, but once the rest of the family came there to laugh, hilarity ensued. Denethor was very popular with the "Loppu tulee" theme ("The end comes") and finally started his spinning way down (joutui syöksykierteeseen, which inevitably sounds much more hilarious in Finnish). Also, I and Key thought a lot about tiny killer medusas because we'd just watched a documentary on them. At the end, when Arwen and Aragorn kiss each other, the thoughts were first along "Not closer than that!", then I said "slobber" and then Key let out this most hilarious slurping drool sound ever and we laughed so stars-damned hard. I almost fell out of the couch.

20:28 — I read Larry Niven's Ringworld today. Yay! It just happened to be lying around, and the internet connection was down, so I took it and read it. I think it took about 8–6 hours. I sort of missed the ending, though. I failed to understand why the characters did what they did. Oh well, I guess I'll have to see it again tomorrow.

19:34 — Hehe, I just remembered a funny incident from a couple of weeks (or months) back. I don't think I wrote it here. We were playing D&D in the role-playing club, it was late and a lot of people kept on coming in to buy soda from the club's vending machine. The RPG club has the most open door time around the clubs. Some of the people were sort of distracting and at one point one of us went to the door and shouted something along the lines of "Go away and be quiet and let us play elves!" Of course, it's much funnier in Finnish for some reason because it was "Antakaa meidän leikkiä haltiaa!" Then we lolled.

14:49 — It's been ages since I wrote here. I don't feel like I have anything to say, even though a lot has happened. Now for the reason of this post:

Oh gee, character questionnaire.

Tylien: 176 cm.

Any bad habits?
Kim: I don't manage my temper, though I could.
Kovetri: I still let Kim go for it.
G-Qem: Besides my twin and... no.
Kale: I don't get people.
Tylien: People say I'm angsty.

Kovetri: No.
G-Qem: No.
Kale: Yes. ...I mean, no.
Tylien: Yes.

Who's your mate?
Kim: Ko– – Kai.

Kim: Chocolate.
Kovetri: Apple.

G-Qem: Yeah...
Kale: Who doesn't?
Tylien: ...

Any secrets?
Kim: Secret innards, hah? Mean secret that I have kept from everybody? I don't think so...
Kovetri: Not as such...
G-Qem: Well, sort of.
Kale: No.
Tylien: No! Yes...

Love anyone?
Kim: Love is a word that has lost its meaning and what I get from it makes me think of...
Kovetri: ...Oppression, obsession, lust and everything negative rather than something positive.
G-Qem: I sure hope not.
Kale: No.
Tylien: I want to...

TACOS?
Kim: Had them.
Kovetri: Had them.
G-Qem: Never heard.

Kim: Sure!
Kovetri: Often.
G-Qem: Certainly.
Kale: Maybe when I was a kid.
Tylien: ...

Kim: Remastered video game music! Ooh yeah!
Kovetri: Almost all techno makes me squee.
G-Qem: Music is OK.
Kale: What?
Tylien: What?

Eye color?
Kim: Green-blue.
Kovetri: Green
G-Qem: Violet.
Kale: Blue.
Tylien: Blue.

Skin?
Kim: I'm Amerindian but I don't really go out much.
Kovetri: Same as em.
G-Qem: Pale. (Cenral: And blue, seriously.)
Kale: Somewhat light. (And blue.)
Tylien: Pale.

Shoe size?
Kim: 42.
Kovetri: 42.
G-Qem: 41.
Kale: Shoes?
Tylien: They have sizes?

Fat/average/slim?
Kim: Slim!
Kovetri: Slim!
G-Qem: Average.
Kale: Slim.
Tylien: Thin.

Rain or sunshine?
Kim: Sunshine causes cancer. Rain causes flu. Well, flu is easier to get over.
Kovetri: Kim, always finding the negative side of everything. I like clouds.
G-Qem: Rain, here.
Kale: Sunshine.
Tylien: How do YOU like it? I mean, I do control the air...

Pool or Beach?
Kim: Pool.
Kovetri: Pool.
G-Qem: Pool.
Kale: What's a pool?
Tylien: What's a pool?

Camping or staying home?
Kim: Camped and stayed at home. I like home.
Kovetri: Me too.
G-Qem: I'm on a foreign planet here. I'd rather be home.
Kale: Home is a concept, not a real location.
Tylien: I was exiled...

Dog or cat?
Kim: Never was a fan of animals. I like that bird of Gabriel's, though. An' Kymtzie's.
Kovetri: I have a bad experience with dogs... Or well, it was just one dog, but still.
G-Qem: Uh.
Kale: What?
Tylien: I sort of like this pitch demon...

Believe in aliens?
Kim: No need to believe, I've seen them myself!
Kovetri: Seen 'em, touched 'em, um... yeah.
G-Qem: No need to believe. These humans really are some aliens.
Kale: We're all alien.
Tylien: Are elementals aliens? Are... are the old Nai'ithar aliens?

Natural born or clone?
Kim: You don't want to ask that from identical twins.
Kovetri: That said, yeah, we were born naturally.
G-Qem: Natural, since I can't think why my parent would lie about it.
Kale: I heard about this cloning thing, but they haven't got THAT far with it.
Tylien: ...

Teeth?
Kim: Have plenty.
Kovetri: They grow back.
G-Qem: Yeah.
Kale: What kind of question is that?
Tylien: What? Of... course...

Car or ship?
Kim: Got a car and a spaceship! Am I cool or what? I made it myself!
Kovetri: Got cars, ships, trucks, motorcycles, modes, hovercrafts... I'm a mechanic, y'know.
G-Qem: Cenral drove us around in a car, but I got here in a spaceship.
Kale: What?
Tylien: What? I've seen a seaship but I've ever been in one...

Ever destroyed anything out of blind rage?
Kim: I wouldn't say "destroyed"...
Kovetri: No.
G-Qem: No.
Kale: No.
Tylien: No.

Any unusual things about you?
Kim: Besides being a genderless mutant telepath? Got a mirrored organ system and black eyeballs.
Kovetri: I think we think differently, too. My vocal cords were "fixed" by aliens.
G-Qem: Humans installed cybernetic implants on me. They're okay. I should let go of my twin... maybe...
Kale: Plenty.
Tylien: ...

How much food/drink do you need a day?
Kim: Not more than the average person...
Kovetri: ...Whatever that is. Except sometimes, when we do.
G-Qem: Well, the recommended amount is 1 liter of drink, 400 g green suff, 400 g bread stuff and 200 g meat.
Kale: Well... I eat when I'm hungry. I don't pay attention to how much I eat.
Tylien: Not that much...

Favorite place?
Kim: Wherever Kovetri is.
Kovetri: Wherever Kim is.
G-Qem: My home.
Kale: ...
Tylien: I'd like to be home...

The Kiwi's Question:
What's your favorite swear word?
Kim: Jtech.
Kovetri: Crut.
G-Qem: Perkele.
Kale: Dween.
Tylien: Bloody.

15:35 — Whoa, over a month since the last entry. Let's see... I went to Helsinki to meet [Linderel] and other folks, turned 21, started a new Shadowrun game with a few other people and have been busy with school and driving [Gastogh] around. It was great to get a flu for a birthday present and all.
Dang, nothing interesting here.

08:01 — I've done three nice microprocessor programming assignments. I was also in two exams that I think went well. One was about databases and one about probability calculus.
Anyway, what's interesting is that today, it was -29 C just outside our house. The car did start, though it sounded bad. Then I noticed that the transmission as well as the pedals save for the break were all sticky and stiff. It was fun driving... then again, the transmission got better. I hope it won't freeze while I sit here. The temperature record of the drive was -36,5 C (near the lake)! Otherwise it was around -34, and -30 around my home and the school.

Also, my music player stumbled on a song that's one of my favorites, and surprisingly enough, I think it affected my mental state. I feel "normally good" instead of being "hyperactively good" or "euphoric". :D Also, looking at my grade 5 from that programming course made me squee. And, it's Shadowrun time tomorrow!
