Kaider Getalahan
User Name: [
Veltzeh]
Character name: Kaider Getalahan
Codename: Cord
Mutant abilities/powers: Short: telepathy (mind reading, mind controlling, telepathic illusions, telepathic projection (specifically clairvoyance), memory modification) and agility (speed, fast reflexes, very flexible).
Long: Kaider can effectively read the minds of other people. In a standard situation when ey's not trying to read anything, Kaider hears background noise and random thoughts from anyone, much like when one is in a small room overhearing every conversation anyone else is having. Kaider can try to consciously block this noise off, and while it does help, it also eats Kaider's powers and concentration in the long run – therefore Kaider likes using a telepathic inhibitor, but only around the people ey trusts. Kaider can only barely risk being vulnerable around other, mostly trusted mutants, so ey won't really use the device that much. Kaider senses emotions similarly, but since empathy isn't near Kaider's real power, ey can only make do with rudimentary knowledge and simple emotions. If Kaider deliberately reads another person's mind, ey will often have to fight against the wits and will of the other person. Generally, this isn't really that much of a problem, since Kaider is a fairly powerful telepath and can often press the right buttons on people's psychic shields. However, if Kaider gets tired, the procedure will be awful, painful and just that much more energy-consumi
ng. True deep-scanning is also something Kaider can do fairly well, but it eats a lot of eir energy. Kaider stands a good chance against another telepath as well, but may the stars help em if ey had to fight alone against two telepaths. Kaider has no idea how to concentrate on two telepathically attacking individuals at the same time and will be very soon helpless when against two or more telepaths.
Kaider can control the minds of others to a point. It may as subtle as casually manifesting an idea in someone's head to the point of total control and a nearly reprogrammed brain. Of course Kaider also tends to unconsciously push people into the direction ey wants, but most often this has no effect on the people, as they already have their own view and opinion – most often they would merely get a glimpse of the issue from another point of view. However, if Kaider is consciously trying to influence people, it will work only so far without the person realizing what is being done. If Kaider goes too far, ey will have to either accept that the person will know of eir doing, or erase some memory. At the extreme end, Kaider could even reprogram another mind while controlling it, but it would be a nearly impossible job. Kaider has never done anything like it nor does ey or nearly anyone else have the desire, as it is a thorough violation of any privacy, would certainly have a very low rate of success and would take so much effort it's just not worth it. However, in general Kaider is easily able to control some thoughts and general motor functions of other people. Most of the stressfulness depends mostly on the seriousness of the stuation at hand, the target's will and intelligence and how perfect Kaider's control just has to be.
Telepathic illusions range from a simple visual effect to a total illusioning of all senses. Faking a sense one doesn't understand or possess or if it just is too complex is very hard, which limits Kaider's illusioning talents to firstly seeing, then hearing, then touching and then telepathic sensing. Kaider can create accurate very believable visual and auditory illusions, even at a mass target – of course if the majority is really believing in the illusion. The same illusions go for other telepaths, but telepaths have an easy time sensing that there is in fact a telepath behind the illusion and thus can see right through it, though they always gather the illusion as well. A telepathic illusion can fool other telepaths to not being able to figure out reality from illusion, but even then it is often possible for them to feel the presence of another telepath, by straining themselves, and figure out what is going on. Touch is also a fairly easy sense to fake, but due to the sheer physical nature of it, if prolonged, it's actually fairly easy to notice just how fake it is. Pain is projected similarly, but as a casual thing, it doesn't really cause any real damage. However, if Kaider strains, ey can even incapacitate people by making the pain paralyzing and cause actual neurological damage or different kinds of headaches, conditions, tiredness and such. The senses Kaider doesn't really understand are taste and smell, what with having the lousy human senses, thus making it nearly impossible for em to fake those senses into the mind of a person who has those hightened senses. Of course this applies to the other senses as well, if they're above Kaider's general accuracy, ey would have a hard time making it all convincing. Of course, working with other mutants with ehightened senses has made Kaider understand all the senses better, but not yet to a point where it would actually make any significance.
Telepathic projection, astral projection or clairvoyance is another thing Kaider is capable of, but not to a that great extent. With respect to this ability, Kaider is greatly restricted by distance, what with being reluctant to open eir mind that far away. Ey is much better at it when attempting it with other telepaths, where they can merge their powers to increase their projection distance exponentially. While projecting, Kaider is quite out of it, but unlike many, ey can still sense what is happening to eir body. This speciality is probably caused by Kaider's carefulness and dislike to leave any part of emself vulnerable. Kaider's projected form is always invisible to senses except for telepathy, but nearly all telepaths manifest their projections as images for the non-telepaths and even more so as images that they generally "see" in telepathic "environments". With respect to senses, Kaider can see, hear and use telepathy in the location where eir projection is, but touch, taste and smell are totally nullified, albeit sometimes telepathic sensations manifest themselves as some sort of imitations of these senses.
The last telepathic ability in its own general category is memory modification. It's technically based on mind reading and illusions, but reading does not involve any direct modification nor do illusions include anything more beyond altering the targets' immediate short term memory. Modifying memories per se isn't that hard, but making them believable and unbreakable is. While Kaider can make relatively stable changes, ey has difficulties making them believable, in which case the target's brain would eventually work around the modified memory. Kaider can also destroy memory, but isn't particularly good at that either (unless the event that is to be erased is very recent) because the memory prints leave their marks on several parts of the psyche and when the memory is old, the more places it will have crept in to, which means that it will be that much harder to completely erase the memory. Similarly creating or modifying memories is hard, because they need to have prints in a lot of places in the mind. Naturally some people are more willing to accept changes even in their minds.
In battle, Kaider mostly just aims to incapacitate eir enemies by paralyzing or stunning them, or by just plainly forcing them unconscious. A thing that telepaths generally find great is a good old-fashioned telepathic bolt: a mostly uncontrolled surge of telepathic energy that strains the target's neurological system. If the target knows things about telepathy, it's fairly easy to not be too miffed by the bolt, but the telepath tends to notice that and send out different telepathic bolts. The bolts also work against other telepaths, but it's easy for them to divert most of the harm, so the attacking telepath would usually have to scan at the target and break through the psychic defenses so that the bolt can do damage. Kaider is rather proficient at the use of telepathic bolts against both telepaths and non-telepaths, but again has no clue how to handle two telepaths simultaneously.
Another Kaider's mutant power is agility. Generally this means ey can twist eir body into nearly impossible positions (though ey generally wouldn't beat professional contortionists) and ey can perform supernatural acrobatic feats, such as jumping very high and having an amazing coordination without much training. Kaider also has fast reflexes and is otherwise physically fast as well.
Gender: None
Age: 19
General appearance: 184 cm, 62 kg, slim build, black hair (short on top and long in the back), piercing blue-green eyes, American Indian. Kaider tends to look like a male most of the time because being flat-chested, tall, quiet-like and wearing sporty clothes says "male" to most people. Kaider technically just looks like an overgrown kid with no sexual characteristics at all. Kaider wears simple, generally dark clothes. Eir most common outfit consists of regular blue jeans, a black (occasionally sleeveless) T-shirt, a headband or cap without a top, a vest or trenchcoat, thin gloves and running shoes.
Additional appearance: Scars on forearms and legs from fighting (not very visible), biggest in the back from a whipslash.
Personality: While Kaider is curious, straightforward, sometimes provocative, sarcastic and doesn't usually lie, ey is deep down a shy coward who has no clue about how to deal with people without using eir telepathy. Ey is, however, over-confident about eir telepathy in stressing situations and tends to take some risks with it in combat and not back away. Kaider tries to seem and actually is fairly friendly, even if ey's cynical and not very talkative. Ey also doesn't pretend to be anyone else, though ey generally doesn't start correcting people about eir sex unless the asker should be someone with whom Kaider would interact on a regular basis – Kaider did really learn the lesson about gender dichotomy the hard way. Kaider is also logical and intelligent by nature. Ey tends to not voluntarily express any feelings except anger and amusement, though involuntarily ey will rather quickly be embarrassed, sad and whiny. In relatively safe company Kaider would start expressing other emotions as well, but usually have them misunderstood, since ey has trouble having the feelings come across properly without the help of eir telepathy – which ey then uses if ey can get away with it. The memories of eir family, when awakened, make Kaider quite sentimental, sad, melancholic and apathetic.
Special skills: Mathematically and technologically talented, can build, fix and use all kinds of technical devices in general. Wants to build a spaceship but hasn't yet succeeded.
Place of birth: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Weapon(s) of choice: Self-made fighting staff with technological enhancements (mainly a few retractable blades and a system to channel telepathic energy into effective bursts), army knife, modified machine gun, laser gun. Kaider always carries the staff, other weapons only on special occasions. Ey might have something else occasionally. Kaider has good fighting skills and fancy weapons to compensate weak physical strength, though ey is by no means an expert at fighting or at weapons. Usually Kaider just uses eir telepathy to distract the opponent enough to hit somewhere.
Medical information: No reproductive organs. Kaider produces next to none sex hormones, but apparently it's enough to keep em from being involuntarily asexual. While several doctors are quite amazed at the fact that Kaider grew to be so tall, eir strength level is still much like that of a kid. Kaider can easily move eir body around, and even finds the quick surge of strength to perform acrobatic feats. However, should Kaider try to move anything heavier than eir own body, ey is remarkably weak. Specifically, Kaider's muscles can't handle great continuous prolonged strain much at all. However, repetitive motion (the kind where the muscle does rest for a short period of time and works the other short period of time) is something Kaider can endure quite easily.
Brief history: Kaider's both parents were mutants. They had triplets, Kaider, Genon and Ikary, who all inherited their parents' powers: their mother's telepathy and father's agility. Due to the fact that all the children looked rather weird, their parents homeschooled them, making them rather oblivious of other people while keeping them safe. The kids didn't really mind that as they did after all get more than enough of dismissing and shunning from other people whenever they went out into the world – and their mother was sure to explain the oddities and atrocities "normal" people resorted to.
However, when the kids started coming to an age where their parents couldn't give them properly extensive education anymore, they started seeking out a proper school for them. They found a mutant school in New York City and decided that the kids would move away from home and live in that school while the parents would stay in Edmonton.
Soon after the kids had left for New York City, a wild sentinel (a huge robot programmed to kill mutants) with a few screws loose sensed the three powerful mutants coming its way, activated itself and went for them. Driving a car, the kids got off the sentinel's scanner at some point, but now their parents were on its range, so the huge robot went for them and killed them in no time. Since it was already activated, the sentinel then headed for the last known location of the kids and found them. After some skillful cooperation, a few fancy weapons, a lot of (bad) luck and fighting only Kaider was alive.
After the mess had been cleared, Kaider continued alone to the school. Ey was quite crushed, but at least the fact that ey was supposed to start a new life anyway made things easier.
Relatives: Parents, twin brother and sister (deceased)
