Chapter 6 Talking to Dr. Goodwin about Erica
I head back into my room, and climb back into my bed. I lye there staring at the ceiling, then I remembered Dr. Goodwin wanted me to go see him. I get out of bed and start down the hall looking around for Dr. Goodwin's office. I wandered the halls of the center for what seemed like a lifetime, when I finally found his office. I very quietly knocked on his door and slowly opened the door. I smiled as I poked my head inside the door.
"You wanted to see me." I said
"Yes Farseena, please come in" I open the door more and stepped inside. I took a seat in the chair next to his desk. I watched Dr. Goodwin as he worked; he finally turned to me and smiled. "Farseena I have asked you here today, to tell you, you are now free. You can now enter the world and be among your friends again. You cannot tell anyone about this place. When your friends ask you where you have been  you have to say, you have been in the hospital, not you have been in The Mystical Creature Center. Does that make sense?"
"Yes Dr. Goodwin, I understand, but why can't I tell them? I mean this place is just for people who have powers and are a little bit different from the rest. People should be able to understand that I am still like them in a way."
"That is very true Farseena, but you must understand that if anyone finds out about this place we could be shut down. That is why you must not say anything about this place to anyone. Your parents are fine they know that you are here. Your sister is fine as well but friends and other family members you may not tell them. You understand?"
"Yes Dr. Goodwin."
"Good, now please sign one more paper for me" He thumbs around in his papers on this desk and pulls out one more paper, I read the paper and I was just signing it is agree that I will not talk to anyone about this place besides my parents and sister. I signed my name, and handed the paper back to Dr. Goodwin.
"Thank you Farseena, you are now free to go."
"Thank you Dr. Goodwin, for all of your help." I stood up from the chair, walked over to Dr. Goodwin, and gave him a hug. I then started to walk out the door, and then I remembered Erica. I turned around.
"Dr. Goodwin, what about Erica? When will see be able to leave?"
"She can not leave until she has been adopted or her parents come in and sign the paperwork saying that it is alright for her to leave. Why do you ask?"
"Well I was thinking, is there a way that I can adopt her?" Dr. Goodwin just looked at me for a second and then finally said. "I don’t see why not. Let me look into that and I will call you in a couple of days to tell you if you can or not."
"Thank you." I walk out of the room and head back to my room. On the way, back I bumped into Erica. She looked as if some one had beaten her up, she looked horrible. I stopped her. "Erica, are you alright?" I asked her. She looks up at me and shook her head no. "What happened?" I asked her.
"My father came in and told me to never come back, and I better find some one to adopt me because he and mother don’t want me back, and… and... and..." I could tell she was trying to hold back her tears.
"and what Erica"
"They say some one needs to adopt be in order to get me out of here, they just don't want me anymore." I just looked at her trying to find the right words to say. Then I remembered what Dr. Goodwin told me.
"Well I talked to Dr. Goodwin, and he says that I might be able to adopt you."
"Really?"
"Yah I am going to have Dr. Goodwin call me in a couple of days and if I can adopt you I will, I promise." Erica smiled and gave me a hug; I hug her back with a huge smile on my face, knowing that I was going to make a difference in a little girl's life. She let go and I knelt down in front of her tucking back her hair behind her ear, "I will be back, but for now I have to go to my room and get some rest because tomorrow I enter the world again as a new person, I am not sure how I am going to be treated so I need to get some sleep in order to be back to normal." Erica nodded, "I will see you soon" I walked off looking back at making sure she was going to be ok, I watched as she disappeared into her room. I walked into my room, climbed into bed, and soon drifted off to sleep.
