What I was saying was that themes, like today's, require a little more diligence than say.."Green" or something. 2009-06-11 [Nioniel]: *shrug* a true artist should be able to take any theme and make it into art. Just because psychologically the word "green" isn't as heavy a word as "hunger" or "pain" or "death", that doesn't mean that there isn't any merit in the artistic nature of it.

2009-06-11 [member181737]: Negation of the idea that any theme cannot be made into a great artwork, if done by a true artist is absent in my posts; any them can(feels like a euphemism of sorts) be made into great art, but to really know that, you need to know what a true artist is, as well as art itself. Unlike music, visual mediums of art lack a complete objectification of the subject’s (artist) will. Art in this sense can be viewed as a form of communication (Music as well, however on a different level); the dialogue espoused by art is that which avows and paints what the subject finds meaningful and the journey of overcoming what they do not find meaningful; art’s incentives are, I think, to expose each other to the process of life. Thus, living different lives we all have limits to our interpretations; some find more meaning in “despair” than they would in “orange”, ‘green” or “orgone scientist.” These all depend on our experiences(inherited experience included).

My personal take on it, if anyone is interested or cares, on the themes....they do have an obvious perspective to it. If I put a theme up that said.....oh let's say "sleep", then the obvious idea would be to take a shot of someone sleeping. But there is the different meanings in a word, any word, even a simple word such as "sleep" could rather be interpreted as someone dead. Death being a state of sleep really. It's THAT that makes an artist step out of the "obvious" realm and into the "artistic" realm. Emphasis on the ic of artistic. Major emphasis! To think outside of the box, to give others something to really think about and see the connection between your work and the word.

I'm highly surprised that no one took that as *whispers, "the neighbors are watching!"* OR any other way! It's not an obvious theme whatsoever and has many meanings. The goal is to spread your artistic wings, expand your expression(ism) and have fun!

They should make some sort of system where, if the theme poster-dude-person-guy-chick can't get on ect... they have a designated individual to do so. Not to say this system doesn't work, just that shit happens.

2009-06-13 [W.L.]: The concept for the 10 Days Of Photography is a good one and the challenge it offers to artists who take it seriously is one best realized by enforcing the standards laid down for the contest. Delays like today's leave contestants with limited time to perform (as if 24 hours weren't enough of a deadline anyway!).

As well, it seems odd that if there are two moderators for the contest when something foreseeable - like work or the need for sleep - comes up that it would not be passed to the other moderator. There's no need to equivocate, one cannot delegate to one's equal if there is truly shared responsibility. But the contest suffers if those in charge of it do not hold it to the standards that the other waves were held to.

This is the perfect opportunity, if one feels they are over-extended to pass off to their co-owner/moderator. Such are the burdens of responsibility: show up to perform (both as a contestant or a moderator) or don't take on the task.

Just my ten cents as an observer.

From the time I've participated, and before that watched this contest events such as this have failed to transpire: a seldom quake. Cilla's more than capable, and hard working. The theme's a little late, not a big deal. But it's here now. The situation has been mended, and complaints made visible.

2009-06-13 [Cillamoon]: Just to set everyone's mind at rest on this issue, and I hope this is the final word on it, I am not strict with the contestants by saying, "Oh well if you don't get the theme in on it's proper day, you're screwed!" Instead, all themes for both present and past rounds are listed on the theme suggestions page, with the exception of future themes. I give all contestants plenty of time to get in the photo's, even after the ten specific days have passed, I allow two days afterwards for all to catch up if need be before judging starts. Elmiira is a dear friend to me, and my partner on this contest, however the responsibility is currently mine as she is quite busy with her real life. So the burden (which is not really a burden whatsoever but more so a pleasure) falls to me. I do not wish to involve any others in the running of this contest, as it is a gem in my heart that I run with great pride. So again I apologize to all who were eagerly anticipating the theme bright and extremely early this morning. I have had it only happen twice in the past where I was unable to post the daily theme as early in the day as I do (7am each day). This contest is not something I shirk whatsoever.
