GSDs are a large breed of dog but can vary in their size. Their height can be between anything from 55 and 66cm/22 and 26in at the highest point of their back (the withers). Typically, they weigh between 22 and 40kg/49 and 88lbs. The ideal height is 63cm/25in.
They have a dome-shaped forehead, a long square cut muzzle and a black nose. Their jaws are strong and have a scissor-like bite. Their eyes are medium sized and brown. Their ears are long and stand erect, open and parallel but are pulled back during movement. They have a long neck and their tail is bushy and reaches to the hock.
