Armageddon's Children; Terry Brooks review

Part of the Genesis of Shannara Series

This is a book written by Terry Brooks, and I have to say I was quite surprised by how much I liked it. It's a bit complicated, but in short it's a post-apocalyptic world in which magic and its champions (Knights of the Word) and the Void and its... "champions" (Demons & their armies of once-men) exist. It follows a few central characters, the first of whom you are introduced to as Logan Tom. Later on you meet other characters and see how they all fit together.

The story is a bit complicated but it's easy to follow, it moves at a rapid pace that keeps you eager to read more, and I find the plot intriguing.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book.

2012-01-28 [Viking]: Interesting. I've read some of the Shannara stuff and I read the first of the Knights of the Word thing, but I didn't know he was going to connect them.

2012-01-28 [Akayume]: Ja. :D Are the other series good? I'm planning on tackling them after this one.

2012-01-28 [Viking]: They're okay. It's been a while since I've read any of them, though. I read the original Shannara trilogy and the Heritage series. Mostly what I remember is they were pretty much LotR derivatives, with a vague impression that the setting was a far-future earth.

I also read the first Word and Void book. It was pretty good, but just never got 'round to reading more.

The underrated Magic Kingdom of Landover books are better, though.

2012-01-28 [Akayume]: Different author?

2012-01-28 [Viking]: No, no. All Terry Brooks.

2012-01-28 [Akayume]: Oke. :D I like his writing style/cadence (if that can even be applied to writing) so I'll be sure to check it out. :D I'm hitting up Half Priced books tomorrow, so if they have any of the above I'll snag them. :D
