Asfeltas Cave

<img:stuff/RoLAsfeltasCave1.jpg>

You head towards the entrance of the cave and you can see nothing but pitch darkness inside. To the sides of the path you can see dead trees apparently suffocated by the extreme fog in this area.

When you get used to the darkness you see that the main cave branches and opens into several more entrances. In the floor you notice husks and shells of a strange nature, they appear yellowish and dead, but there is something about this cave that bothers you.

Asfeltas Cave History 2

Dankei stepped into the cave, and illuminated the darkness by casting Light on his naginata. He glanced around quickly to see if anything was in the vicinity, and waited for his companions. Meanwhile, he was hoping they wouldn't attract too many critters at a time.

The Hauken fencer arrived shortly.
"Well?" Patamon said impatiently.

Dankei heard some scratching and faint hacking noises a bit deeper in the cave.

Dankei pointed at the husks on the ground, and then said in a low voice, but with a big grin on his face: "See those? And do you hear that scratching further into the cave? I'm thinking we'll have plenty of action. So let's try not to attract the entire cave, shall we? Where's Anemone?"
He looked over his shoulder, trying to see her. Personally, he was beginning to like the silent and fairly attractive woman a lot better than this grumpy warrior.

Just then Anemone too entered the cave, and blinked to let her eyes adjust to the lit cave. She looked around before saying, "Well this place reminds me of my past, but definitely has a different feel to it.", she walked closer to the two and asked Dankei, "What kind of creatures did you say lived in this place?"

"Really big bugs, my dear." Dankei grinned before turning away and cautiously proceeding into the cave, all the while keeping a sharp lookout for any suspicious movement, and trusting ev en more on his hearing to tell him if the bug noises in the distance were coming their way.

Patamon was a bit uncomfortable that his hawk-eyes were of close to no use down here, so he stood behind Dankei as they went further.

ŮŽAlthough Anemone was no dah'kin, but her mentor had made her get used to the darkness, so she calmly followed Dankei, and carefully looked around for any sign of the big bugs he had mentioned.

The group of three advanced, with Dankei's sword glowing, and the scratching and hacking got slightly louder. Indeed, in no time the group saw a little exhorian larva crawling around in the tunnel!

Combat started!

Round 3:
<img:stuff/a_asfeltascave_003_03b.gif>
Digger ? 4/38 HP
Patamon I9 12/12 HP
Anemone F8 12/12 HP 9/13 MP
Dankei D5 19/19 HP 10/16 MP
Larva J10 -3/5 HP (x_x)
larva L7 5/5 HP

Round 1!

Before the people could act, a large exhorian rushed out of a small cave and stopped in I10, growling and screeching, as if giving a last warning to back off.

Patamon's turn!

Patamon's reaction to seeing the large creature was... bland. He knew it was powerful. He knew it could kill him, but that did not seem to disturb him.
"Very well... hii-yah!" And though he knew that he stood more of a chance to be crowned king of the Hauken, he charged towards the digger (H9), ending with a slash of the Damascus.
Patamon ran at the creature and struck, but the Exhorian was prepared and swatted away his sword.

Anemone's turn!

The surprise of seeing an exhorian for the first time left Anemone quick enough. She moved forward as much to have the creature in range and trying to decide which part of its body would be more vulnerable, She prepared her Curse spell. Careful not to hit anywhere near Patamon, she cast it. (Cast Spell - Curse)
The Exhorian was momentarily surrounded by a few black flames, so dark that only Patamon could really even see them. However, the creature shrugged it off without even really trying.

Dankei's turn!

Dankei took a few steps to the side, so he could aim past Patamon, and then cast an Empowered Heat Beam at the Exhorian, hoping it would have some effect on the armoured critter.
The exhorian tried to deflect the beam with its carapace, but failed and burned for altogether 25 damage while screeching in agony!

The little larva started crawling back into the tunnel, but it stopped shortly and turned toward Patamon, spitting acid at him! Another larva appeared in the tunnel and did the same.

Knowing all too well he'd have to stay on his toes for the better part of the battle, Patamon raised his buckler and tried to dodge out of the way of the successive larva-spitting.
Patamon successfully evaded the not-so-well-aimed streams!

Round 2!

After being burned so painfully, the Exhorian digger decided to start digging itself into the ground!

Patamon's turn!

Without any other target, Patamon decided to punish the first larva (J10) for its imprudence and, taking a step towards it (I9), launched a slashing attack with his blade.
Patamon impaled the helpless larva like a sausage, dealing 8 damage!

Anemone's turn!

Seeing the exhorian was getting away, Anemone decided to prevent that in case it got away and called on more of his friends to swarm the place. So she ran towards it, and giving her spiked chain a good swing, she brought it down on top of the digging creature's head.
Anemone's chain bounced harmlessly off the hard shell of the partially concealed Exhorian.

Dankei's turn!

Dankei quickly cast Ember and Mudslide on the location where the Exhorian had begun its digging (I10 and the square below that, -I10 and as much squares around -I10 as possible), hoping that the spell would do even more damage now that the Exhorian was submerged by red-hot mud.
First it seemed like the Exhorian digger wasn't troubled by the hot embers, but then as the rest of the ground around it turned hot as well, it lost its defenses and took 9 damage! The mudslide, however, didn't seem to even have the range to reach the creature, because the ground right in front of Dankei waved a bit and then formed a muddy puddle there.

The little larva squeaked and started running away, making it to L7.

Round 3!

The last traces of the Exhorian disappeared.

Patamon's turn!

The Hauken began to angrily hit the air with his wings, uneasy due to all the mudsliding and digging going on all of the sudden. But Patamon managed to stay focused and, for lack of a better target, started after the larva (L8) and, still hovering, let his blade fall on top of the creature.
The fleeing larva managed to block the badly aimed sword without trouble.

Anemone's turn!

Anemone ran as close as she could to the Larva, and swung her spiked chain towards it in a horizontal move, hoping to stop it before it got away.

2008-04-03 [Veltzeh]: So is he blocking or dodging there?

2008-04-03 [Anomynous]: "Patamon raised his buckler and tried to dodge out of the way of the successive larva-spitting."

Ignore the buckler part :p

2008-04-03 [Veltzeh]: Yah, it's hard to know which part to ignore. X)

2008-04-03 [Anomynous]: Indeed. I will try to avoid ambiguity from now on.

2008-04-06 [Blood Raven]: That heat beam worked a lot better than I could've hoped for :D
Hmmm... you reckon Ember might burn a beastie that is underground, Veltz?

2008-04-06 [Veltzeh]: Yup, Ember would work.

2008-04-06 [Blood Raven]: You put a smile on my face ^__^

2008-04-06 [Veltzeh]: Whee! ;)

2008-04-09 [Blood Raven]: anemenenomy, you're up!

2008-04-13 [Sunny Silverunicorn]: Sorry I kept you waiting! New term, and then family crisis hit me one after the other.

2008-04-15 [Veltzeh]: Hmm, I think you need to choose the area that you'll heat. I'll assume that you can heat the ground under the surface too, so you can pick underground squares. But at least one square needs to be in the surface, and they need to be connected. :P

2008-04-18 [Veltzeh]: Poke poke!

2008-04-21 [Blood Raven]: aw hell, stupid mudslide spell range... Maybe I ought to ask teh Dur if I can alter that once I get some levels of Plague bearer ...

2008-04-21 [Veltzeh]: Always check your ranges. X)

2008-04-23 [Blood Raven]: well, if it creeps up on me, I'll just lava-blast the hell out of it X)

2008-04-26 [Blood Raven]: *Sunny poke*

2008-05-12 [Blood Raven]: lo?

2008-05-19 [Grengo]: Try playing her character for this turn if a week or more has gone by. *shrug* She's probably been very busy.

2008-05-20 [Blood Raven]: more than a week has gone by... shall I take over for a turn then?

2008-05-20 [Veltzeh]: Yep.

2008-07-05 [Veltzeh]: Hmm. Anemone can't hit the larva without risking hitting Patamon too. I'd say that if Patamon dodges, there's a 50 % chance she can hit the larva. Technically, she'd first make an attack roll against Patamon. You still want to go with it?
