Avon Winter Treats Candy Cane Lip Balm review

After visiting a small Avon shop a while back, I ended up searching for new lip balms to try out, as I tend to be a bit of a lip product addict. While I was browsing the shop’s lip product selection, I came across a basket of lip balms that priced each tube of balm at 99¢. I dug through the basket eagerly and ended up choosing three different balms, two of which were colored, the other was not. One of the colored, flavored and scented balms was Avon’s Winter Treats Candy Cane Lip Balm, a holiday lip product that women and teen girls will probably enjoy more than any other demographic would. 

Of the three new lip balms that I had selected for myself, one of my favorite ones so far is Avon’s Winter Treats Candy Cane Lip Balm, one of two lip products that I chose that was tinted with color. Avon’s Winter Treats Candy Cane Lip Balm is a moisturizing lip product that comes in a clear plastic tube that measures roughly two-and-a-half inches long and about half-an-inch in diameter. The tube has a twistable bottom piece that, when turned one way or the other either raises the lip balm within the tube to above the surface of the tube or else pulls the balm back down into the tube. This twistable piece is serrated and is about an eighth-of-an-inch high, making it pretty simple to grip and to turn without one’s fingers slipping in the process. The tube is topped with a clear plastic cap that matches the rest of the tube in color (or more accurately, lack thereof). This cap may be removed by pulling up on it as well as may be replaced on the tube by pressing down upon it in order to snap it back on. The body of the tube is wrapped in a light blue colored plastic label that includes such information as the full name of the product (Avon’s Winter Treats Candy Cane Lip Balm), that the tube weighs 0.15 ounces (4.2 grams), and an ingredient list. The wrapping on the tube also features an animated image of a toy holiday soldier that has a candy cane hung through the buckle of his belt. 

The balm within the tube is bright cherry-red in color though it does not leave this specific color on one’s lips when applied. Rather, the product leaves a glossy, sparkling dark pink tint on one’s lips, which makes this a bad product to go overtop of other lip colors that may be applied to one’s lips before this one would be. Should one care to appear to be going all-natural, I would not recommend this balm, as the color that it leaves behind when applied is certainly not a completely natural one. The product is not an odorless one, nor is it flavorless. Avon’s Winter Treats Candy Cane Lip Balm smells mildly minty and a tiny bit waxy. As far as flavor goes, the product tastes minty as well, though the flavor is not at all overbearing and is actually rather underwhelming instead. Once applied, the product stays on for about an hour when one is using their mouth actively, such as during activities like talking, eating, etcetera. Otherwise, the product remains in place for roughly two hours. However, when one is wearing the product they ought to pay attention to exactly how they touch their lips as the color might smear onto the skin surrounding their lips as it is fairly greasy in texture and does not always stay completely in place. 

Using Avon’s Winter Treats Candy Cane Lip Balm is incredibly easy, all one need do is remove the product’s cap, twist the bottom piece on the tube in order to raise the balm above the top of the tube in order to smoothly apply the product to one’s lips, and then apply the product evenly over one’s lips in order to keep lips from becoming chapped, as well as to color them slightly. I recommend doing this in a mirror as the color of the balm is dark enough that others would immediately notice if it was applied to the skin around the mouth as opposed to only decorating the lips. This product should only be used as directed, that is to say, on one’s lips. One should stop using this product immediately should any skin rashes occur as well as they should keep this product out of the reach of children and pets. 

Ingredients for the product include Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Isopropyl Palmitate, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Beeswax, Petrolatum, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Acrylates Copolymer, Lanolin Oil, Aroma, Methoxycinnamate, Parfum/Fragrance, Ozokerite, Lanolin, Phenyl Trimethicone, Calcium Sodium, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Tocopheryl Acetate, Popylene Carbonate, Silica, Barium Sulfate, Saccharin, Benzoic Acid, Tin Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Mica, Red 7 Lake, Iron Oxides, Yellow 5 Lake, Blue 1 Lake, Yellow 10 Lake, Red 6 Lake, Manganese Violet, Bismuth Oxychloride, Carmine, Orange 5, and more.

I do enjoy this product. Though my favorite lip treatment products are still Burt’s Bees and Terra Tints (reviewed at: ) lip balms, this new one has kept my lips moist, healthy, and free from chapping. I would recommend this product to women that enjoy such holiday flavors as Candy Cane (or mint flavors in general!). The color of the product is a slightly unnatural one, so I would recommend using the product lightly underneath another color, perhaps a favorite lipstick, and then sealing the color on with a light dusting of translucent powder. Men would probably not feel comfortable wearing this product as it is flavored, scented and colored and most parents of young children would most likely not care to have their children look so made-up by the product.
