Amelia put down a large sign near the entrances of the Arena, before returning to her seat in the sun, reading through her thick tome again.
Adalwolf was constantly looking upwards as he walked through the arena, amazed how much it reminded him of home. He passed a sign with some info on something called a "countdown match", and a mention of a "Circus Maximus", the last one sounded interesting.
"Greetings, fair lady." He bowed before Amelia. "Pray tell... could I take part in one of those
Circus Maximus type of battles?"
"Sure thing, sir."
Amelia said. "What kind of difficulty rating would you like? Easy, moderate or hard?"
"I think I shall start with easy, milady." Much as he wanted action,
Wolf knew this was not the time to be hotheaded.
"How come none of your people is confident enough to take on a hard challenge?"
Amelia sighed, and she walked towards the edge of the Arena, where she pulled a lever to open the hatch in the middle of the arena. From the darkness of the catacombs appeared what seemed to be a flame hovering in mid air!
Battle has begun!
Turns and positions are as follows:
Flame Figment (M11) (*_*)
Adalwolf (M8)
The flame figment blurred in Adalwolf's direction, and hovering a small distance away from him still, a bolt of flame shot out from the tiny elemental, heading straight for Adalwolf!
The fighter quickly pulled out his billhook and placed it in front of him. Shifting his centre of gravity to the back,
Wolf tried to block the oncoming flame... somehow.
Adalwolf was quite able to block the incoming flame, and even as small sparks and flames swirled around him, he recieved no damage whatsoever.
Adalwolf's turn
Confident thanks to his successful block,
Wolf took one step forward and pushed the billhook with both hands for a thrusting attack.
Adalwolf jumped forwards, and thrusted his billhook in the dead center of the flame figment, which immediatly dissapated.
Battle has ended!
Adalwolf recieves 150 XP!
"Good job! See how boring that was?"
Amelia said, with little enthusiasm. "Anything else I can help you with?"
The knight let his head down on one side and drew a circle in the air with it, making his spine release a loud cracking noise.
"Boring or no"
Wolf then said "That was warm-up. Think you can set me up for a hard one?"
"Now that's more like it!"
Amelia said, and she pulled another lever, opening the hatch in the center of the arena once more! From the depths of the pit came a growling wolf, which looked at Adalwolf with his sharp teeth showing, savoring the meal ahead.
Battle has begun!
Turns and positions are as follows:
Wolf (M9) (8/8)
Adalwolf (M8)
The wolf jumped out of the catacomb hatch before it had fully opened already, and flung itself at Adalwolf, hoping to rip the man's throat!
Adalwolf braced himself and pulled his weapon high, putting the shaft in front of his neck to block the beast's charge.
The wolf launched itself at Adalwolf, who had trouble manoevering his bulky weapon. Barely able to stop the wolf, the beast's teeth sunk into Adalwolf's neck, dealing a critical hit! Adalwolf recieved 18 damage and fell unconcious!
Battle has ended!
"Oh dear! That's not good."
Amelia sprinted for the fallen warrior and chased off the wolf, which dissappeared into the arena catacombs with loud yelps. Then, she quickly cast
Heal 4 on Adalwolf, bring him back to full health. "You okay, dear?"
Wolf woke up in shock. "Yes" he answered Amelia's question "I am now, thank you." He idly took his hand tho his neck, feeling for the wound that was now gone.
He got to his feet and wiped the dust off his clothes.
"Does milady think I would do better in a medium battle?" He said with a sly smile.
"Hun, with your determination, you'd do fine in a hard battle even, if luck is a bit on your side. All that wolf had was one good shot, after all."
Amelia replied. "Nevertheless, I could set you up for a medium challenge, if you fancy that. What will it be?"
Wolf tugged a bit on his goatee, pondering on her advice. "Aye" he then said "I shall put on a show for the lovely lady. A hard one it is."
Amelia smiled and nodded, opening up the gate in the center for the third time today. This time, a small hyperactive little creature stepped out, black-skinned and red-haired, with big ears and claws. It looked at Adalwolf with an evil grin.
Battle has begun!
Turns and positions are as follows:
Adalwolf (M8)
Darkling (M13) (10/10)
Adalwolf's turn
Billhook held at a high guard,
Wolf charged forward (M11) and slashed his weapon downward at the hideous creature.
The billhook came down hard, but sadly hit nothing more than the sandy arena floor as the Darkling evaded to the side. The Darkling quite retaliated by jumping at Adalwolf, slashing both its claws at him, and attempting to bite as well.
Wolf drew one step back and pulled the blade of his polearm in front of the beast's face to halt the charge.
Adalwolf had little trouble stopping the flurrying creature in its tracks with his superior defensive skills.
Adalwolf's turn
With his morale lifted by the successful block,
Wolf took another step back tried a circular slash attack to the creature's right-hand side.
The darkling once more tried to jump away, but this time, Adalwolf had anticipated it. Slashing his billhook higher than necessary, he caught the Darkling by surprise in mid-air. Scoring a critical hit, he dealt the creature 21 points of damage, cutting it clean in two.
Battle has ended!
Adalwolf recieves 525 XP!
Adalwolf has levelled up! Twice!
After its last blow, the knight's weapon hovered atop the sliced body for a few moments. He wanted to savor the moment as long as he could.
"That certainly went better than last time."
Wolf finally spoke with a satisfied grin.
"Definatly."
Amelia agreed, as she threw the remains of the darkling back into the catacombs. "I knew you had it in you. Now, is there anything else I can help you with?"
"Not at this time, milady. I thank thee for thy advice, it has proved most useful. I think I should earn myself some finances now. Fare thee well."
And with a deep bow,
Wolf headed back out to the Coliseum.
