Chapter One: Spring

“The winds rattle the walls of my home, but it's warmer than it's been in weeks. A gray sky hangs over my head, taunting, as though it might rain today. It rained yesterday. The river nearly flooded over and my garden turned to mush.

My poor flowers. They had only just begun to grow.”

Betty Greygoose stepped out of her house. As that first, light breeze hit her face, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath in. It was a fine spring day, after all.
