Ok, finally I've put some things up on here. LOL sorry for the delay. Well, we are going to start out with some easy vocabulary: p most of you probably already know all of this, but it's good to be able to refer back to these terms when we are going through are lessons. J Lessons about hair care and treatments will start after we learn the proper make-up techniques .Ok, here are the vocab. Words in alphabetical order. These words refer more to the certain skin types and skin products, things to know about skin CARE. Later on this week we will get into more Make-up vocabulary and application forms.

. Acne- the disorder of the skin caused by inflammation of the skin and glands and hair follicles. (Pimples, zits, bumps, ect.)

. Alpha Hydroxy Acid- a group of several naturally occurring acids that lift the dead skin cells from the underlying skin, making skin appear clearer and more even-tones. AHAs are present in a board spectrum of skin care products.

. Astringent-solution that helps remove oil from the skin. (Usually used after the cleansing of the face, neck, or back)

.Benzoyl Peroxide- an effective anti-acne medication that works by both killing acne- provoking bacteria in the follicles and slightly discouraging oil gland production.

. Black heads- a mixture of dead skin cells, oil and bacteria.

. Bleeding (lipstick) – when lipstick runs off the outline of the lips, creating a streaked look (usually prevented with a matching lip liner)

. Blotting - to remove extra lipstick from the lips by using tissue.

. Bronzers-powders that are brushes on like blush, which contain water-soluble pigment to make skin look tanner or darker.

. Calluses-dry patches of dead, hardened skin (usually on hands and feet)

. Cleansing creams- oil-based moisturizers used mainly for cleansing purposes, although they contain little or no soap or detergent. Meant to be applied and wiped off, rather than washed off with water.

. Cool tones- refers to more of winter colors. Purples, blues, whites…

.Exfoliating- a process of removing dead skin cells on the top layer of skin. (Come in some cleansers)

. Lip balm- lip product for dry of chapped lips (chap stick, better if it contains SPF)

. Lip sealer- lip product that seals lipstick (Max Factor is a genius at this J)

. Lip stain- lip product that gives hint of color with out a high shine.

.loofah- a natural sponge made from a loofah plant, sometimes made into a cloth of mit.(for the shower)

. medicated cleansers- these contain antibacterial ingredients are topical drugs, such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, sulfur or resorcinol. Recommended for oily acne prone skin.

.Moisturizer- used to replace loss of moisture to the face or skin after using a strong cleanser and toner.

.Noncomedegenic- refers to product that will not clog pores.

. PABA- Para-Amino benzoic Acid is a substance which absorbs ultraviolet light and acts as a “sun block” PABA is used in skin and hair care products, as well as tanning lotions.

.Photoaging -skin aging incurred through sun exposer

.Retin-A- A vitamin-A derivative that acts as a topical anti-acne treatment.

. Salicylic acid- acts as a peeling agent and loosens debris in clogged pores. Present in many skincare products.

. Scrubs- also called exfoliants, loosen and remove the dead cells on the top layer of the skin, making skin look smoother, finer and clearer. This process encourages and stimulates the formation of new skin cells. A wash cloth, sloughing sponge, loofah or scrubbing product, such as washing grains, scrub cleansers or sloughing cleansers, remove the excess oil that can clog pores and improve circulation, giving the skin a rosy glow. Exfoliating products are formulating for all skin types. However, do not over scrub and irritate the skin. Use gentle circular motions and let the product do the work for you. Ingredients, such as alpha hydroxy acids, also work to exfoliate the skin without scrubbing.

. Soap- basic toilet soaps combine an alkali with a fat, often a vegetable oil, and water. They are effective in cleaning grease, grime and cosmetics, but can be drying or irritating to dry and sensitive skin types.

. Soap less cleansers- Synthetic detergent liquids or bars that are less alkaline and richer lathering than basic soap. Non-soaps do not react with hard water to produce” soap scum” residue. Formulated for normal, dry or sensitive skin types.

. SPF- the acronym stands for “ sun protection factor”

. Sunscreen- a substance that absorbs the UV (ultra Violet) light rays of the sun. (Skin protector)

. T-Zone- the forehead, nose and chin.

. Toners- also called “fresheners” or “astringents” these products are generally used after cleansing to remove excess oil, cool and freshen the skin and temporarily tighten the pores. There are two basic types: those that contain alcohol as a primary ingredient and those that do not. Alcohol helps dissolve dirt, oils and cosmetics but is also drying to the skin. Generally fresheners and toners contain less alcohol than astringents, but they vary in alcohol content (as well as additional ingredients) from product to product. .

. Alcohol- based products- are not recommended for dry or sensitive skin. Alcohol-free toners often contain glycerin as well as botanical ingredients.

. Transparent soap- Super fatted soap also containing a high glycerin content whish is responsible for the soap's consistency and transparency. Effective for sensitive and normal-to-oily skin types. Glycerin is known as a humectants.

. Ultraviolet (UV) Light- can refer to light from the sun, or to lamps used in salons.
UV Protectant- protects against ultraviolet (UV) rays.

.Warms- warm colors such as oranges, browns, reds, yellow……….

.Washable liquid creams or lotions- These are basically soaps or detergents in a moisturizer base. Unlike cleansing creams, they are water-soluble and can be rinsed with warm water. While formulated for different skin types, they are generally not recommended for oily skin.

. Whiteheads- A mixture of dead skin cells, oil and bacteria, which produce, bumps on the skin. (Pimples, acne, zits,ect)

Most of these vocabulary word were taken form this book. Some were in it and some weren't. My little examples and suggestions are next to them J I know the vocabulary part of all this is boring, but I have to do a little of it.J
