Could I pass the witchcraft test?
Can I list the Ten Commandments?
Probably not, but I CAN try… that at least I know for sure – and that those I don’t know, I can guess at. 1. Thou shalt not steal. 2. Thou shalt not covet. 3. Thou shalt not make false idols. 4. Thou shalt not commit adultery. 5. Thou shalt not kill. Okay, halfway there… oh, fine, I don’t know any more.
How many times have I gone to church in the last year?
My family is far from religious. Hence, we rarely attend church services. However, I’ve found a way to take a step back from the rigid sitting, kneeling, and communion that is the Catholic church I was raised in. I’ve found a way to attend church, which makes me understand why people go. During the summer, the United Methodist church here in Manchester has a casual service of music and prayer at 6:33 p.m., which I attended almost weekly. It felt good to be part of a fun, respectful group for a change.
Do I believe in witches?
I know for a fact that witches exist. In the realm of fiction, of course.
How do I feel about religious issues?
Do I believe everything in the Bible is to be taken literally?
It seems logical to me that the Bible, like every other book, is open to interpretation. Perhaps it is a holy book, but it was still written by man.
Is there an ideal I consider ‘worth dying for’?
There are certain causes I suppose I might give my life for if necessary. However, I would only die for a cause I felt strongly about, and then only if I could no longer help that cause by living.
Do I believe in the Devil?
I don’t believe in a Devil or Satan as an actual entity. My thoughts on God are just the same. As far as I am concerned, there is no supreme good being, and therefore said being cannot have a malevolent counterpart. I believe only in the positivity or negativity of energy generated by the human mind.
Can mankind be saved by doing ‘good works’?
In accordance with my other beliefs, there is no saving by deeds; indeed, there is no Being there to save you, no matter how many good deeds you do. My belief is that the spirit is reincarnated – over and over again – until it has learned all there is to learn, and understood all there is to understand. Then, the soul has reached a state of nirvana or enlightenment, and can exist in its pure form because it no longer needs the confinement of a body.
How do I feel about the judicial system?
Do I believe a person is innocent until proven guilty?
This goes back to my system of logic. I have severe difficulties believing things without ample evidence. Therefore, I certainly believe a person innocent until proven otherwise.
What is justice, and how is it defined?
To me, justice is a reasonable and appropriate punishment equivalent to the wrong a person has committed and needs to be punished for. Because justice is so often relative, I doubt that it can ever be clearly defined, as black or white.
What is contempt of court and is it ever acceptable?
Contempt of court, as explained to me by Deven Voelker in Government class, is when someone refuses to either obey the court or to go on trial. It would be acceptable, in my opinion, if you knew you trial was not going to be a fair one.
How do I feel about moral dilemma?
What is ‘moral dilemma’? Give an example.
A moral dilemma would be when one has to decide between upholding one moral or another. An example would be when a pregnant girl has to choose between saving her life by having an abortion – something she believes to be highly immoral – or dying in childbirth.
Would I be able to hold to the truth, even if I would be ostracized for doing so?
Yes, I believe I could. Social acceptance has never been something I valued overmuch. This would be especially doable if the truth I was attempting to hold to was something I strongly believed in.
In a moral dilemma, would I think for myself, or let others influence me?
I certainly would. I am very much myself, in all cases and scenarios.
