Darkness Descends

Imagine. Someone grabs you. You struggle against him, but it's no use. You calm yourself and concentrate just enough for a slight Pull. He falls, letting go of your arms in his surprise. You look down at him, your green eyes calm as roots pull themselves from the ground and wrap themselves around him, restraining him.

Imagine. You are surrounded by battle and sea. The villains have thrown grappling hooks and are preparing to board. Your eyes shift sightly towards the bow of the ship, you can see the water. A Pull and a Push, and there is a wall of it crashing onto the decks of the enemy ship, snapping the lines and washing away much of her crew.

Imagine. You are deep in a dark wood. Someone stalks you. Your eyes begin to blaze. This is the last mistake he will ever make. You turn. Flames trail after your fingers in an elegant fiery ribbon. You release the flame and it hurtles toward your adversary. He is engulfed. You stand and calmly watch as he is consumed.

Imagine. You are in a strange ruin. You Feel darkness, evil intent. An invisible attack is launched upon your very Spirit. If you do not react, you will be Crushed. You Push back, breaking its grasp. You launch your own attack, Pushing against the Spirit. Finally, something breaks and the dark Spirit is Crushed. You bow your head.

Earth, the most stable. Water, the most practical. Fire, the most violent. Spirit, the most uncommon. These are the Elements, the tools of the Kymar. The Kymar were great beings, taller than the tallest Humans, stronger than the strongest Dwarfs, more wise than the wisest of the Elves. They were marked by great beauty and grace, their hair was often long, flowing yellow-gold, silvery-white, or sometimes deep auburn down their backs. They were the descendants of the divine, and were revered by all the races. They stayed within their own kingdom, welcoming dignitaries of the other races who came to the great cities of Laslaundius for advice, but never going out into the other kingdoms of the land. But that was many ages ago.

Darkness Descends is a fantasy roleplay created by me, [~Valkyrie~], with plenty of help from [Albireo the Lost]. The Kymar are a race of my own creation and cannot be used for purposes outside this roleplay.

Now that that is out of the way, have a look around. I am going to try hard to keep this roleplay moving and interesting, while still trying to move slowly enough for those of you who actually have lives. I am going to say right here and now that characters in this roleplay will be a bit more powered than what many on this site will be used to, just roll with it, have some fun.

Also, don't bother to ask if you can join. Of course you can. *smiles kindly* Just read through the rules and information page, then send me the bio for the character you want to play. We'll talk then.

2010-03-03 [Yume Youki]: Hey, do you want any help getting the pages of this roleplay finished? I'd be more than glad to help. :)

2010-03-03 [~Valkyrie~]: I think I can get it... Really all that needs done is finding a story and names of places so that I can set up the rp rooms.
Would you mind reading through this page and the info page and seeing if there's anything that needs work? I'd appreciate that.

2010-03-03 [Yume Youki]: ok. :)

2010-03-03 [Yume Youki]: You forgot to say in the info page that you can only have one ability for every kymar character. Other than that, you've done it all - can't see anything wrong.

2010-03-03 [~Valkyrie~]: Ah, right, I keep forgetting to add that.
I'm thinking about taking away the other races, just keeping the Kymar...What do you think?

2010-03-03 [Yume Youki]: Hmmm... I think you should keep the elves and humans, at least, just for a little diversity...

But then again, I think that most people will want to have a kymar character, and so I don't think there will be very many other races.

Maybe just having the kymar would be a good idea. :)

2010-03-03 [~Valkyrie~]: I think I'm probably going to do that...

2010-03-09 [Albireo the Lost]: Oh, and you supported her? WE had a VERY long arguement about this, and I believe the sample size is far too small to agree. Simply put, a good RP allows its players options, and eliminating all but one race as playable characters simply doesn't provide that. I think the prevailing train of thought would be against making a Kymar character as there simply isn't a reason to want to be one. They don't really have any defined unique characteristics about them to make them interesting roleplay characters outside of being more powerful.

I'd rather have the complexity and turmoil that comes with being a lesser races any day, thank you.

2010-03-09 [Yume Youki]: Yes, but some people don't see it the way you do, James. They want the more powerful races, which is I said that. :)

2010-03-10 [Albireo the Lost]: Which is why you said that, you mean? ><

I'm not saying cut out the Kymar, but not everyone wants to be them. That's it. Leave them all open. It doesn't matter if EVERYONE plays a Kymar, as long as we're available to not.

And how on earth do you know my name o_O?

2010-03-10 [Yume Youki]: Um, yeah, that's what I meant. XD

And I don't think you should cut out the Kymar either, it's just some people are idiots and freakazoids (like me), and just like to have characters like that.

And I know your name because Elbereth told me when she first introduced me to you - and anyway, Elbereth-sensei addresses you a lot that way, sooo... ^^;
