EOD HALO'S SHACK

Halo's residence is little more than a walk-in closet, a scarce space with barely enough clearance for her to stand upright, in a row of similar ramshackle clapboard 'houses'. Constructed as such, she can take advantage of protection from the wind and cold during the winter months, unlike those in free-standing dwellings. There is a scratched, yellowed plexiglass skylight that she can prop open for a little ventilation, or to take advantage of the daylight hours if and when she's home. However, as the dog days of summer stretch on, the heat becomes particularly stifling during the day, and the nighttime is filled with the sounds of her neighbors, just on the other side of three out of four walls, leaving the mutant privy to their conversations, arguments and some other things she tries to tune-out.

There is no conventional bed to speak of, but, upon entry, to the right of the single room there is a neatly-folded, tattered comforter sitting on a blanket-covered length of plywood that just accommodates the woman's tall frame. Thanks to her injury, she finds it more comfortable to sleep on a harder surface with just a small, salvaged chair cushion for her head. To the left of the entrance is a small, square table with two of its legs splinted back together and a stool that gets tucked underneath when not in use. There are a couple of neatly stacked dog-eared and copiously bookmarked notebooks on the table, a couple of precious pencil stubs and a crank-operated flashlight/radio.

From the exterior, the shack can be locked via a combination lock, and the interior can be secured with a rusty length of metal pipe set horizontally across the frame, and a chain lock, all of which was pretty laughable considering that anyone who truly wanted to get inside could probably just knock the entire structure over.
