Gifts For God

"While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head."
Mark 14:3

What would you give God for a gift? I'm not talking about the theological idea of giving yourself to God. I'm talking actual gifts, whether they are things, ideas, time, etc. Would you buy God some flowers? Pick them maybe? Write Him a poem, a song, a story? Draw Him a picture? Sing Him a song? Give Him a heart-hug at the most random part of the day? Say "thank you" to Him for the most random and obscure thing? Just like the woman in Bethany, what would you give to God as a gift?

This is where you can tell others what you gave God for a gift. "Myself" is great, but doesn't count since you're supposed to do that anyway. This is what you have given God as an extra, that isn't required. Something you've done just because you love Him. It doesn't have to be anything grand and spetacular, just something from the heart. This isn't meant as a means of self-glorification, but rather something to remind you of love, and to give others an idea that maybe they can do.

If human love does not carry a man beyond himself, it is not love. If love is always discreet, always wise, always sensible and calculating, never carried beyond itself, it is not love at all . . . . Have I ever been carried away to do something for God, not because it was my duty, nor because there was anything in it all beyond the fact that I love Him? Have I ever realized that I can bring to God things which are of value to Him, or am I mooning around the multitude of His redemption whilst there are any number of things I might be doing? Not Divine, colassal things which could be recorded as marvelous, but ordinary, simple human things which will give evidence to God that I am abondoned to Him?

2007-02-22 Hey... thats a neat idea! I've never thought about giving God something, besides myself before.

2007-02-23 I have... but I still have no clue as to what mine is.

2007-02-23 Oooh. Well, whatever it is, I'm sure God will love it!

2007-02-23 Try to think of a talent God has given you, then do something with that talent as a gift back for Him. That's probably the best way to start! <img:44166_1164145221.gif>

2007-02-24 Heh... My talent got "beat" with my head.

2007-02-27 hello, may i join?

2007-02-27 Sure. There's no members list or anything. You just add what you want when you want or browse through what others have posted

2007-02-28 ok

2008-03-03 I think it would be good for people to know that the jar of purfume was not like cracking open a bottle of store brand perfume. The cost of the perfume today would have been equal to 30-50k. As it was worth a year's wages.

When considering what we could give, may we lavish our best on Him.

I am not responding yet because I seriously want to consider what to say.

2008-03-05 yeh. same, i agree.
