Final Fantasy X is one of the greatest milestones in Gaming history as well as in its own series. It can even be looked at how much we have evolved technology wise is the past decade. FFX combines all the things that make Final Fantasy worthwhile and adds things that are sure to keep the series going for another decade.
GRAPHICS 5/5
Being on the PS2, FFX is naturally the most graphically enhanced game. Movies, already remembered for being visually incredible, approach reality in FFX with the advances of the PS2. Also, the backdrops and battle scenes you traverse are completely 3-D, as opposed to the pre-drawn style in all the previous ones. Character graphics are identical in both World Map and Battle versions. They are also capable of displaying emotion. Lip-synching is a little off in the American version.
GAMEPLAY 5/5
Final Fantasy games has always been notorious RPG games. FFX is no exception. Completely user-friendly, allowing you to jump in if you are a beginner and feel right at home within a few minutes. Simple commands are used from everything from deciding what to say and battle decisions. The menu is easily understood with everything properly ordered and labeled. Help menus are frequent and even have appeal to veteran players.
MUSIC 5/5
The FFX soundtrack is one of Uematsu's best. He is joined by Nakano and Hamauzu to bring forth songs spanning all genres including rock, jazz, and classical. Also noteworthy that there are several exclusively English and Japanese vocal songs in both versions left unchanged in all releases. Several excellent live performance tracks.
INGENUITY 5/5
Many, many new things have been introduced and redone. The CTB system, which has finally resurfaced after the introduction of the ATB system, charts your turns to accurately show how battle will progress. Surprisingly, this makes battling much more enjoyable than other Final Fantasy's, due to it removing the stressful chance factor. Time literally stops while you plan your next move. This pause also allows for you to switch out characters for different ones, in the middle of battle. The EXP and Leveling system has been removed as well, and replaced with a mechanism called the Sphere Grid. After battle, characters earn AP that earns characters sphere levels, which allows movement along the board. This system will appeal to those who like character customization and who want to learn all possible abilities. You can actually max out stats to staggering power for every character with some planning and a lot of time.
The summoned beasts, called Aeons in FFX, now stay and fight in the place of your team once summoned. They have HP as well as full control of their actions. Their famous super attacks are now their Limit Breaks (called Overdrives in FFX). New compelling mini-games such as a complete playable sport called Blitzball or collecting hidden Aeons. FFX breaks long-standing traditions such as the amount of damage or health possible.
STORYLINE 5/5
FFX has a very complex and intriguing plot. It is also very swift in moving you along. One of the most emotional rides in the series. It has the saddest ending for sure. Theme based on a game-religion called Yevon.
CHARACTER BASIS 5/5
Each character has been given a true personality and their voice actors do a pretty good job of making them come alive.
