Argument is a way to take two conflicting opinions and come to a conclusion. But to argue properly you must not be arrogant or stubborn. You must see the right in the other person's story, you have to understand where they are coming from, otherwise you are just pointlessly wasting time. At first you may not realize what they are saying but when you get to thinking about it you see that they are right. I am not saying that you were wrong, but typically with an argument where both parties' opinions are entirely different, they're both right in their own manner. So in conclusion argument is really just a tool for taking two entirely different and partially wrong opinions and combining them into one true conviction.
You are all probably wondering why I bored you with the previous paragraph. Well, the following opinion was formed when I was arguing with someone about punk and who is truly punk. At first I didn't get where they were coming from and didn't quite understand. But then later on that night I thought about it and suddenly I had a moment of clarity. I realized what she was saying, but I still partially believed in what I had been saying before. And in the conclusion got a much more concrete and unarguable opinion. The following is the conclusion that I got from this highly intelligent argument. Please bare with me I the telling.
People say that punk is dead and that is died in the eighties. But I have to disagree. Punk is not dead its dying. It's slowly fading away into teen magazines and department stores. The mainstream has taken over. No one even knows what it's like to do there own thing, could you really blame them though. Everything has been done, there is nothing left to do. All we can do is recycle the old. But now I've realized that you can never be a true punk, because you can never understand exactly what they were rebelling against. You can't be punk but you can believe in punk! So really the punks are dying but not punk. As long as there is one person out there that believes in what the punks stood for, punk can not die. For example the “Modern Hippies”. They don't get it. They don't know what the hippies were trying to do. They just believe in the philosophy of the hippies: Peace and love. But is that really all the hippies were about, partly but we could never quite understand exactly what it all meant. So punk shall live on! As long as there are people out there that understands and believes in it. The punks have given future generations a philosophy, knowledge, and a guideline to non-conformity
! So in conclusion I'm not punk, you're not punk, none of us are punk. Well not truly.
[Well that was my really crappy essay, needs to be revised and polished off I know. But I think you pretty much got the idea.]
