Player - [Slade]
Name – Jakbe Nels
Race – Human
Sub-race – Lochmorian
Class – Flamebearer
Allegiance – Igna
Appearance – Standing tall at 6’1 with a muscular build, Jak looks to be a run of the mill Lochmorian. With a once fair complexion, he looks more travel-worn and tanned than most but still pale at the side of Ravillan’s. This also draws attention to the variety of thin age lines that have started to creep in around his eyes, forehead and mouth. The only other sign of aging is his completely bald scalp, the last of his dark blonde hair being shaved years ago. Other than that he looks strangely youthful. Jak takes on other traits associated with Lochmore, such as a squat, strong face and squared jaw however he remains clean shaven adding a mix of intelligence and capability into his appearance. His once handsome face usually always sports a broad smile, matching his resilient nose and pronounced chin. With a bright, curious quality to his air, Jak’s green eyes tend to capture his keenness to be a part of something, as well as his inquisitive nature.
His attire isn’t particularly flamboyant, believing there are more worthwhile ways of being noticed than dressing in bad taste. Such as knowledge or strength. His clothing reflects this practicality, often consisting of standard clothing and a worn pair of boots (since he likes to feel the earth beneath his feet). Comfortable in a plain white shirt, leather belt and brown coloured trousers, he feels little need to dress up for big occasions. On top of that Jak wears a long robe of red with mud encrusted into the fabric in places, he wears it loose and open. Sometimes when staying in his homeland, he dons a fur-trimmed cloak to stay warm. He has spent a lot of his time in other region’s, picking up on the culture of most human and catfolk races as well as a variety of items from his visits. He can be seen in a bamboo hat at times, or wielding a catfolk shield, but his most important item by far is his Kusara, which doubles as a walking stick, and as far as Jak is concerned the only thing useful Xiadom had to offer to him.
Age – 37
Personality – Since Jak can remember he has always desired to be a part of something, whether a group of adventurers or his own personal quest. He has a warm disposition, looking after complete strangers or even helping enemies in need. This kind nature can be exploited, making him a man easily manipulated. That being said, he knows when certain things need to be done to achieve a greater good. He comes across as fairly well educated but hands on, channelling his knowledge into practical solutions. He has little patience and constantly feels like he has something to prove or do. Energetic and rebellious, he is hard to control, neglecting the Nervan church if not the worship of Nesha and Igna. A great believer in fate, he prefers a more personal approach to religion. He does still have respect for the Nervan church, more so than he did in his youth.
Sometimes seen as an oddball by his fellow Lochmorian’s, he revels in the attention but despite that he prefers to live in seclusion only visiting cities and towns. This could be because he gets frustrated if pinned down and made to stay in one place. Having a dangerous temper, he is able to keep anger pent up for awhile but once he is enraged he behaves recklessly, in a similar fashion to his mentor. In his early years he felt frustrated, not knowing where he came from or what the purpose to life was, Jak was misguided for many years. In this time he started to believe there’s something more to life than entertaining patrons at the occasional inn. At the moment he is engrossed in his own personal mission of finding what his high purpose is.
History- Born in Stockfors, Jak had a tough up bringing, particularly since his parents abandoned him at a young age. A variety of families took care of him for a while, moving from one to the other as they found his anger particularly difficult to subdue. Moving on to the streets he lived as an orphan for some time, making his way by stealing and scavenging. Eventually he found his way to Lochmore, in hope to find his future in the big city. Unfortunately things didn’t go that well for him, no one really wanted an orphan working for them. Finding sanctuary in one of the inns, he convinced the owner not to throw him out with a variety of tricks he had entertained himself with while he was on the street.
An explosive bundle of energy he soon started entertaining the patrons with his feeble juggling and slight of hand tricks, getting a few coins as a tip sometimes. As he grew older, his desire to keep moving increased and so did his ambitions. Wanting to do bigger trick’s he educated himself and started to train his strength and stamina. But it was not until he came across a flamebearer that he really knew what he wanted to do.
One night he was hanging around the inn, practising and enjoying the attention of the patrons. One of them was a bit ill tempered and had a little too much to drink and started to tease the boy with his own tricks. Sending sparks of flames from his hands he heated the ground and made the young Jak dance like a fool. The old man cackled madly, looking like some demented grizzly bear with a large wiry beard. Severely pissed off, he launched himself at the grouchy old drunkard, starting a brawl that wrecked half the inn. Both of them were thrown out of the inn, leaving them to settle their dispute outside. The flamebearer had other ideas; barely able to stop the boy from tearing his throat out he had to use several flash spells and a few blows from his staff to restrain him. Offering to teach the boy some magic to settle their difference, he had seen the potential Jak had in fire, rare in Lochmorians.
He told Jak his name was Thom, and that he was there to teach him how to use that aggression and add to it with the power of red magic. Enthusiastic about learning new tricks, he accepted quickly and before he knew it he had learned red magic. The two travelled together for a while, to Ravilla, Caerham then back to Lochmore to Velto; Jak suspected the man was some sort of pirate, since they always had crazy beards and temperament to match. Thom told him that he now had the skills to get what he needed, which went straight over Jak’s head as they parted ways.
Thinking the need Thom spoke of was to find his parents he travelled far and wide, roaming Lochmore for any sign. Jak spent years searching, moving on to travel Xiadom, where he picked up some minor combat training since what with the wars, things were getting dangerous for a wandering entertainer. He didn’t stay there too long since their tastes were far too subtle and dull for Jak to understand.
With his search unsuccessful, as soon as he had stopped looking he realized there must be a truer purpose in life. Seeking out more adventure and stories to tell, Jak set out to journey wherever there was an inn and boar’s blood waiting.
Weapon of choice-Kusara
Other- Travelling to most of the inns in Lochmore, he is moderately well known in most of them. He is also a fan of most forms of entertainment, except theatre.
