Chapter One: Keyser and Lisse!

Keyser walked into the bank, he brushed back a few strands of his blonde hair and sighed as he saw the queue. He walked to the back and tapped his foot impatiently, clutching the brown bag of money in one hand, his other twitching madly out of boredom. He looked around, eyeing random people suspiciously. He didn’t see the group of five people enter the back behind him, he only knew something was wrong when a loud gunshot sounded through the bank.

“EVERYBODY DOWN THIS IS A ROBERY”, The largest of the five men screamed, Keyser spun around but ducked down as commanded, not wanting to get shot.

A frail woman with dark brown hair ducked to floor next to Keyser, her hands covering her head. Her thin body trembled with fear, and she let her eyes peak out a bit to see what was going on. Her light grey eyes latched on to Keyser's for a moment.

Keyser looked over at her, his own ones looking at her, he immediately saw how scared she was. He sighed and moved over to her sort of suing himself as a shield between her and the attacked. He whispered in her ear. "Look just stay down and you'll be alright...".

The girl nodded quickly, scooting closer to him as well so that they were almost touching. She muttered to herself in French, whispering, "Je savais aujourd'hui a été une mauvaise journée, de quitter la maison.." she shook her head, looking at her watch.

Keyser just raised an eyebrow, he couldn't speak a word of French so it all went above his head. He watched as one of the gunman looked over at them. He avoided eye contact and looked down. "Oy..you..small girl get over here". He yelled at the quivering girl next to him. Keyser snapped a glare up. "Leave her alone".

Her head perked up, and she shook it. "Non monsieur!" She began to stand. "I don't want you to get in trouble," she added, her eyes meeting his again, a look of reserved fear on her face.

The guy just seemed to get angry as these two people refused to cooperate. He went to grab her, Keyser stood up and punched him flat in the face knocking the guy clean out. He shook his fist. "Ow". That guy had a hard face, in the next few seconds Keyser now had every gunmen pointing his weapon at him. "Shit...". Was all he said as he held his arms up, hoping for a chance to reach for his own gun.

"STOP!" The woman stood, putting herself in front of Keyser. "I'll-I'll go."

Keyser blinked, he went to say no but the guy already had her. The man held the girl tightly, gun pressed to her head. He walked to the window with her to show the policeman that had arrived that they had hostages.

Keyser slinked his hand inside his jacket to get his gun, he looked around, five guys, one on the floor, six bullets, would he have time.

The woman, who would later reveal that her name was Mélisse, now had tear-stained cheeks. She was like a rag doll in the man's arms. Her bag had been left on the floor near Keyser, and her eyes flickered toward it for a moment, and then up to Keyser himself. The man jerked her body back towards the window, and she was back to looking outside at the police officers and their cars.

Keyser blinked, he bent down onto his knees and looked at her bag, wondering what she had been looking at.

There was wine coloured cloth, and since her bag had been rattled the contents had slightly spilled out. Lying there on a bed of red silk was a gorgeous gold necklace. The pendant was a deep azure sapphire with diamonds lining up around the large jewel. There was something etched into the back. Even from a small glance at Mélisse, it was apparent that it was not hers, nor that it was something she'd wear.

Keyser just frowned at it and picked it up, he dropped it and sighed. Time to get his hands dirty. He stood up and was suddenly grabbing the gunman closest to him, he smacked him over the head with the handle of his gun and held him like a human shield. He charged the second guy throwing his shield into him like a human bowling ball. He then quickly shot the other two men and aimed his gun at the man holding Mel. "Let the girl go".

Mélisse looked at him with fearful eyes as the man holding her turned them both slowly around. "I'd shoot her 'fore you'd shoot me mate. It ain't worth--"

Keyser shot the guy straight in the head, he sighed as the man flopped to he ground. Lisse's face splattered with the mans blood. Keyser looked at her, it was then he saw the police running in. "FUCK". He grabbed his bag and ran for the back door, ignoring the people trying to stop him, calling him a 'hero'.

Lisse stood ironically still, her hands shaking slightly, her eyes open wide. She couldn't move. The smell of the man's blood was all around her.. On her skin... her breathing came in short rasps.

Keyser didn't realise he still had the girls pendant in his hand, he ran out the back door slamming it closed. He darted around in the alley way looking for a car to steal.

Seeing one of their own killed, the other robbers made an attempt to escape. If they did or didn't Lisse never found out. She stood there, quivering like a young willow tree until an officer came and stood next to her, placing his hand on her shoulder. "M'am? Are you.. All right?"

She collapsed, passing out, a river of bright colours swimming before her eyes. She had never been so drained in all her life.

Keyser stopped abruptly outside, he looked down at his hand, he held the pendant up to the light, observing it. Shit - had he stole this without realising. Too late, he couldn't go back in now.

Lisse woke to worried people crowding all around her, and a heavy-set officer telling them to kindly bugger off and give her some space. With a grown Lisse sat up. "Que s'est-il passé?" She rubbed her head, and then remembered. She had passed out. The man's blood had now dried to her cheek and forehead, but she didn't seem to notice anymore. Pushing people out of the way she scurried over to her bag, and gasped. "C'est a disparu!" She pulled herself, and closed her eyes, trying to remember. The man... holding her. But the other one.. With the gun... That was it! The man who had saved her had it! She dashed out of the bank, stirring gasps and cries of dismay from the crowd. She jogged down the street, her eyes searching.

Keyser turned to see the woman from the bank running at him. It was then an idea sparked. He walked over to her. "Hey you got a car"? He held the pendant in his hands, twirling it in his fingers as if taunting her with it.

A confused look came to Lisse's face. "That's mine. Give it back. If I have a car or not have nothing to do with the matter-"

Keyser flicked his jacket to the side to show off his gun in the holster by his waist."Listen..girl....you drive me back to my home and you can have this little ditty necklace back..'kay sweet heart". He smirked slightly.

Lisse frowned, then slapped him. "I am not afraid of you." She rustled around in her bag, pulling out a set of car keys. "But I suppose I own you something since you saved my life. So I'll drive you somewhere, sure. But we'll stop by my place first. D'accord?"

Keyser just smirked at the slap, laughing in childlike manner. "Course..let's go". He followed her to her car, swinging the pendant around on his finger. "So what is this thing"?

They came to a surprisingly nice car. A red Porsche with the windows rolled down, as if she didn't care if it was stolen. She paused before answering. "It was... my mère's, once upon a time." She strapped herself in, adjusting the rear view mirror. She frowned, looking at the blood splatters on her face.

Keyser got in the passengers side and did up his seat belt. He just stared at her, and waited for her to drive. He looked at the pendant and put it on the dashboard for her. "Then you should take better care of it". HE got cocky and watched as they drove. "So..what’s your name"?

"Mélisse, but I suppose you can call me just 'Lisse'. And I do. I was actually about to deposit it in the bank when certain circumstances prevented me from doing so..." She put her signal on and brought her car out onto the street. She drove smoothly, only having one hand on the wheel. "And you are?...'

"Zack Keyser". Keyser rested his arm on the window and looked out, his eyes sharply watching the word fly by outside. He didn’t care if she'd heard of him, his reputation tended to precede him, people always judged.

"Hhmm." Truth be told, she hadn’t ever heard of him. All she knew was that when he got home she planned to take a nice, long shower.

Keyser just nodded along."I'm guessing you need to change and wash your face at your house..don't take too long...". His arrogance knew no bounds seemingly; she was doing him a favour by driving him. Keysers blinked slightly as he looked at a figure in the middle of the road. "Watch out". He looked at Lisse, the figure was that of a naked long black haired women. "What the..."? Keyser's confusion only heightened when the women raised a hand to point at them.

Lisse was quite for a moment, and then she spoke. "What woman?"

"That woman". Keyser pointed to her, his eyes widened as a lorry drove straight through her causing the image to vanish. When the lorry drove past them the women was gone, nothing remained to even suggest she had ever been there. "N-never mind". He looked down and rubbed his eyes, he must have been tired.

Lisse didn't say anything for the rest of the car ride. A few minutes later they found themselves in a good part of town, and then on a block that held apartment buildings. She pulled into the parking lot of one of these such buildings, parked her car, and pulled the key from the ignition.

Keyser opened the door and got out, closing it gently. He looked up at the apartment buildings, rather posh and expensive ones. "So you're a little rich girl heh?" he swallowed hard and rubbed his eyes. "Do you mind if I have a cup of tea when we get in?"

Lisse got out as well, and closed her door. "I'm not rich, Henry is." She began to walk towards the building. "And yes, I think I have tea."

"Henry..he your boyfriend...husband...brother...father.."? Keyser dropped in many options as he entered the apartments; he followed Lisse to her apartment and waited for her to unlock the door. His left hand twitched slightly, he felt a headache coming on. He also couldn't shake the feeling they were being watched.

"Father," she replied, unlocking the door and walking in. Her apartment was open, with large windows to let the light in, cream coloured wood floors, white walls crowded with artwork, and canvases everywhere. She dropped her purse onto the kitchen counter, and stood on her tip-toes to reach a box of tea bags.

Keyser removed his jacket and placed it neatly on the sofa. He began to pace the apartment, looking at all the items in turn, as if inspecting his surroundings. He straightened his tie and walked over to Lisse. He leant over her and got the box of tea-bags she couldn't reach. "Here".

Lisse nodded and took the box from him. "Merci." She got a pot of water started, and brushed a stray strand of hair from her face. "Do you think you can handle making this? I need... I need to.." She gestured to her bloodied face and clothes.

Keyser nodded. "Go wash." He walked over to the kettle and put it on, boiling the water. He then put a tea-bag in two of the cups making them both a drink of tea.

Lisse nodded, and walked out of the kitchen and down a hall, disappearing into her bedroom. She pulled some towelled from her bathroom closet, and picked out a new pair of clothes. She turned the shower on, and let the water run over her hand until it was good and hot. She closed the door, and then stepped inside the shower, letting the streams of water pound into her flesh.

Keyser made the tea, he poured in some milk into both, he took his without sugar, he left Lisse's so she could put in how every many sugars she liked. He sat down on the sofa, placing the cup on a mat, he leant back, closing his eyes.

A short while later Lisse came out of her room, her hair still damp. All traces of blood had been cleansed from her face, and she felt human again. She went to the kitchen and added milk and a good heaping of sugar to her tea. She sipped, and then joined Keyser in the living room. She glanced around, and was embarrassed by how messy and cluttered it was. Art supplies were strewn everywhere, and an incomplete painting was set up in the middle of her room.

Keyser looked around. "You're very talented." He said off hand idly, sipping his tea. He saw a sketch book on the table in front of him; he picked it up and began to flick through it, not really asking if he could.

Lisse nodded, and muttered a 'thank you', sinking into a chair across from him. The sketch book was mostly done in black and white, though there were some colour pictures. Most of them depicted someone scared and in the dark, with creatures hiding in the shadows, waiting to pounce. A few were happier and depicted sunshine, but most of them were rather morbid.

"You're afraid of the dark...deeply in fact aren't you?" And just like that Keyser had read her like a book; he snapped the book close and placed it down on the table, picking up his tea as well. He didn't see a shadow looming behind them, but Gray watched them both with interest.

Lisse shrugged. "Everyone is afraid of something, even those who think they are not," she took another dainty sip of her tea, her eyes wandering to her window.

"I'm afraid of nothing." Keyser gave a smirk and finished off his tea, placing the empty mug down on the table. He stretched and lounged out on her sofa, kicking off his shoes. "I might stay here for the night, it's getting late and my place is almost half an hour away from here".

"Usually the people who say that have the most to fear." Lisse stood, picking up his mug. "Then walk. I hear the exercise is good for one's health." She walked off to the kitchen, rinsing out the mugs and placing them in her dish washer.

"If you say so and nah, this place seems nice, I'll camp here." Keyser began to remove his tie, unwinding it and laying it on the table; he then undid the first few buttons of his shirt and relaxed. "Hey can I turn the TV on?"

Lisse picked up her phone. "You know, I'm sure the police are still looking for you. I wonder what they'd do if I bothered to call them..." She poised her fingers over the buttons.

"Dial that number and your body will be missing its head". Keyser said it quietly, though his words came out like ice, something in them suggested he might actually do it.

Lisse snorted. "You won't kill me. You need me. You're like a lost puppy without a home. You need to act tough and bear your fangs to survive, but on the inside, well.. You're just looking for a home." She hung the phone up, and added, "however... I haven't had anyone over in a long time. I suppose you can stay... Qui sera, sera."

Keyser just huffed and curled up on the sofa."Fine..I'm your guest...make me something to eat..please." He added the last bit on just to be polite, though his entire act was completely arrogant. He turned on the TV and started watching the NEWS, he eventually got bored and started to channel surf.

Lisse shrugged, then said, "I can't cook."

"Then we'll have to order in." Keyser came to life like a zombie and floated over to the phone. "You like Indian, Chinese, pizza... I order in a lot and know their menu's off by heart." Keyser was the laziest cook in the world and thus had take-away nearly every night.

"Indian sounds good," Lisse replied, scrawling out her address on a piece of scratch paper. Her hand writing was all loops and swirls, and in some areas hard to read. She slid the paper across the counter to Keyser.

Keyser looked at it like an idiot for a few seconds, trying to make out the curves and swirls."Urgh..ok...what do you want?" He dialled the number and waited on the ringing, when they picked up he ordered some rice and curry for himself.

Lisse replied, "I would like a vegetarian curry, please."

Keyser nodded and ordered it, he then gave the address and hung up, he stretched and yawned. He removed his gun and placed it on the kitchen counter. He then pulled out other numerous weapons consisting of a hunting knife from his shoe, another gun from his other shoe, and then a knife from his belt.

Lisse watched with curiosity. "So, Monsieur Keyser, what is it that you do that requires all of these... weapons?"

"Interrogating people mostly, defence in case I'm attacked by another gang, general I guess." Keyser walked back over to the sofa and hoped down, he switched the channel onto the news again, it was a report about the bank heist earlier. Apparently some unnamed civilian vigilantes saved them. A man and a woman.

"Another gang?" Lisse moved out of the kitchen, and sat on the edge of the couch cushion next to him. "So you're a gang member then."

"You could say that..." Keyser wasn't making this easy, he leant back, arms behind his head, looking at the clock every now and then.

"Why did you save me?" Lisse leaned over so that if he looked forward, he would have to look her in the eye.

Keyser tried to ignore her, he sighed. "I was bored." He was lying obviously, you could tell in his voice, fortunately he was saved by the bell. A ringing from downstairs telling them the food was here. "I'll pay I guess....come on." He gestured for her to follow also.

Lisse sighed, then nodded. She stood, and followed him to the door. He didn't make much sense to her.

Keyser walked downstairs and opened the door; he paid and handed the food to Lisse, thanking the man. However his attention was caught by a bit of commotion over the street. What looked like a young woman being pestered by a very obviously drunk man.

"I'm umm.. I'm going to go back upstairs," Lisse said quietly, figuring that Keyser would handle the situation. She hurried back up the stairs, taking them two at a time.

Alessandra quickened her pace, her eyes closed tightly as she attempted to ignore the drunken man that had been following her for several blocks now. What was it about people in the city and refusing to leave her alone. She hated coming out this way. She opened her eyes, the man's voice slowly droning in to an audible sound. Apparently he had been talking this entire time. "Come on, Baby! Wait up," he called in a raspy voice, placing his hand on her shoulder as if to halt her. Alex frowned, her brow coming together seriously. She smacked the man's hand from her arm, turning to face him with fierce eyes. She noticed then that two other men were approaching, seemingly his groupies. They were large and had dark expressions framed by lude smiles. "What's the problem, Hunny?" One of the newcomers cooed as he came along side his friend.

Keyser walked over slowly and calmly. "Sorry but is there a problem here"? He smiled and waved his hand to the side, gesturing to the three men. He ran a hand through his blonde hair and sighed slightly, really, some men had no manners.

Alessandra frowned. "Yes," she replied flatly. "And if you'll excuse us, you're interrupting." She said, turning back to the drunk. "What's the mater, Toots." he said. "We were just joking before." This time he reached his hand out, and what he grabbed was not her shoulder. Alex narrowed her eyes angrily, closing her hand in a tight fist as she swung at the man, hitting him square in the face and sending him to the ground with a heavy thump. "Don't call me toots." She said, shaking her hand. He had a hard face. Too bad she had to break it. The man squirmed on the ground as he fought to bring himself up, his hand on his face. "Now, That's not very lady-like," said one of the other men as he came closer.

Keyser frowned and went forward; he right hooked the guy to the left smacking him in the jaw. The guy went down like a sack of potatoes and landed near his fallen comrade. The last guy standing backed off. "FUCK THIS". He said, he ran off followed by his other two injured drunken friends, they stumbled away. Keyser frowned as they left, he then turned to Alex."You ok"?

Alex straightened up, studying the stranger slowly. Why had he helped? "I'm fine," she replied. Not that she wasn't in control of the situation in the first place.

"Do you need to call someone to pick you up"? Keyser flicked towards the apartment buildings behind him. He then stepped back and began to walk towards Lisse's apartment.

"No!" Alessandra called quickly, a little louder than she had meant to. Her brother assumed she was staying with a friend at the college. That obviously wasn't true. "That is.."

"Heh"? Keyser raised an eyebrow, tilting so he was leaning on one foot.

"There's no one for you to call," Alessandra said. "And why do you care anyway?"

"Fine..fuck you then". Keyser turned around and marched off back towards Lisse's place. Hell with that ungrateful bitch.

Lisse had gotten some plates down and had served up the food. She was sipping at a cup of water, waiting for Keyser to return. She chewed her lip. Everything had gone from bad to worse ever since she had moved to England. With a sigh, she rubbed her temps. "No time to complain now," she murmured.

Keyser walked back into her apartment, food in one hand, he closed the door with the other. He huffed, deciding he couldn't be bothered to explain what had happened. He placed the indian wrapped food on the table and looked around for the fridge. When he spotted it he walked over and began to help himself to some of the cans of soda inside.

Lisse took her food and served it, gingerly scooping the food onto her plate. "So..."

Keyser took a seat and grabbed a fork, he then began to eat his curry."So what..she's fine, walking herself home, ungrateful whore." He frowned into his food and stabbed at the rice, grimacing as it kept falling away from him.

Lisse shook her head. "Don't use a word incorrectly. It makes you look stupid. Unless she tried to squeeze into your pants she certainly isn't a whore."

"Listen, little girl". Keyser looked up from his food scathingly at Lisse, little girl didn't really work considering they were the same age. "Once you've actually lived a little you can tell me what to do, but for now, shut up and eat."

Lisse shook her head. "You seem to be in constant need of power, to have the upper hand. It'll only hurt you in the end, you know." She went back to her food, her words making the conversation close.

"If you say so." Was all Keyser replied back with as he finished off his rice, the tapped his finger on e can of coke and snapped it open, drinking the contents quickly. He sighed and looked down at the rest of his food, he was full now.

Lisse stood and took his plate. She walked over to the sink, and set the plate gently at the bottom of the mini white tub.

Keyser watched her go, he shifted in his seat and tapped his fingers on the table. He turned to Lisse, about to talk when suddenly a pillow from the sofa hit him in the face. He blinked dumbly."What the?"

Lisse turned; she hadn't seen anything, so she was a tad confused. "Oui?"

Keyser held the pillow, he stared down at it and then over to the sofa area where it had flown at him from. "This pillow just hit me". He sounded like an idiot saying it so bluntly.

"...Yes. And little elves leave me shoes in the morning, so don't be alarmed if a pair of Prada pumps are sitting in front of the door when you wake up." Lisse snickered, and headed for her room.

Keyser frowned as he realised how stupid she had mde him seem, the stood up from the table and marched over when a pillow flew and hit the back of Lisse's head aswell. keyser watched it just float and the soar. "What...the...". Suddenly every book on the book case flung out and to the door.

Lisse turned, her eyes angry. "Why did you do that!? Some of those books are pricless!" She scurried to pick them up, muttering to herself in French.

"It wasn't ME"! Keyser replied, bending down and helping her pick up the books, one by one. A rather heavy book from the top shelf flung down and hit Keyser on the head causing him to drop the rest of the books. "Fucking hell...". He held his head, now on his knees groaning in pain.

Lisse cocked her head to one side. "What is going on here?.." She murmured, looking around the room, her eyes wide.

Keyser clentched his fists tightly and got his gun out. He heard a small noise behind him and spun around, ready to shoot whatever unlucky soul happened to be there, however he was met with thin air. He turned around but haulted as he saw a dark shadow looming behind Lisse, he just blinked a few times, staring.

"What, is there something on my face?" Lisse questioned, lifting a dainty hand to her cheek, oblivious to what was behind her.

Keyser just stared as the shadowy figure took the form of a black cloaked creature with red eyes and a wide set grin of sharp white teeth. Keyser grabbed Lisse and thre them both up and away nearly slamming them both into a wall. But atleast they were away fro this 'thing'.

Lisse was about to protest, but when he pulled her away she turned, and saw the shadowy creature. She immediately grabbed on to Keyser, holding tight to his arms out of sheer terror.

Keyser stood infront of her, instinctivly protective, he gritted his teeth and tried to remain calm. "Who are you"? His voice was terse and had the bite of a snake to it, however it was laced with nerves.
The shadowy figure just loomed over them, grinning it's strange grin, it spoke in a low ghostly voice. "So you two can see me"? It's voice was oddly human in comparison to it's body.

"No. We're just guessing where to stare in horror at," Lisse mumbled, her eyes wide as she gazed upon the Shadow.

The shadow let out a small chuckle. "Oh you humans are funny". It's head loled to the side as if bendning away from its body.
Keyser just stared in disbelief, he reached to his side and got out his gun, however as soon as he touched it the gun was flung away as if by air and sent skidding to the other side of the room.

Lisse backed up a bit, so she was next to Keyser. Still looking at the Shadow she laced her fingers with his and held tightly to his hand. Her frail hands were shaking, and she knew he'd be able to tell how afraid she was.

Keyser felt a little uncomfortable but didn't pull his hand away, he didn't have the heart to to be honest, and hell he was scared to. "Care to explain what you want..or...atleast what the hell you are." His face was stern.
The shadow laughed again."I'm a ghost."

Lisse shuddered. "As in you were once living but now are dead?" She shook her head, closing her eyes. "I don't believe in ghosts. Je ne crois pas....."

"Neither do I". The shaodw responded, it floated towards Lisse as if taking in her appearance.

Lisse shrank behind Keyser, letting go of his hand so she could hide completely behind him.

Keyser stood still, trying to stand his ground. "So..you're not a ghost..what are you then"? He bit his lip hard as the shadow seemed to contemplate how to answer.
"A superior being". Was all the shadow said.

"Well, could you be a 'super being' outside of my home s'il vous plait?" Lisse peeped, frightened that the thing would become angry with her.

"Afraid not my dear". The shadow floated backwards and then setteled down on the sofa, hovering a few inches above the material itself. "I've been watching you two and some others for a long times now, and I have finally concluded that indeed you are the correct people for the job".
Keyser remained standing."Correct people for the job, what job"?

Lisse nodded furiously, repeating, "Yeah, what job?"

"Really, there is no need to be so hostile young humans". The shadow moved a bit to the side, a ghostly hand rising to its face, pulling it's shadoy hood lower. "Id sit if I were you, this is a long story".
Keyser frowned but sat down on the opposite sofa.

Lisse settled onto one of the cusions that had been tossed to the floor, hugging a smaller pillow to her thin frame.

"Your world, earth I believe you call it, is infested by creatures from my own world". The shadoe chuckled. "We call them the Hyde, and army of darkness ruled by a ruler of unknown name and unknown origin". He looked to the side. "Your world is small in comparison and once our world mereged into it the Hyde realised it was pretty much defensless".

"So what do you want us to do about it?" Lisse asked. "I mean.. What can we do?"

"The Hyde are invisible to the human eye, but not to you". The shadow smirked. "Have you ever seen something, sometimes just out of the corner of your eye, something in the corner maybe amougst the shadows..how many times do you pass things off to just a trick of the light".
Keyser gulped as he thought it over, all the time would be the answer to the shadow.

Lisse looked to the ground. "So what if we can see them? ... How could we.." She sighed. "Fight them?"

"Seeing past the illusion it's self I must say is a worthy feet, I can only begin to imagine what you two are capable of". The ghost floated up and looked over Keyser and Lisse."Tell me, what are your names"?
"Zack Keyser". Keyser answered tersly.

Lisse, feeling a little uneasy aroudn this creature, only replied with "Lisse" instead of giving it her entire name.

"I see...". The shadow began to tap its boney fingers together as if contemplating."Well Keyser and Lisse..I suggest you read this, it contains information about the different types of Hyde". The shadow snapped it's fingers, a book appeared in the air and fell down onto the table with a slam, the book was black and felt like it was made of skin.

Lisse gave a look to Keyser that suggested she wasn't about to touch the book, and that he should open it.

Keyser looked at the book."I..feel like I've seen this before...". Keyser tilted his head as he surveyed it, deja vu most definatly. He rubbed his temple.
The shadoe laughed. "You have seen it before, both fo you".

Lisse shuddered. "But how?..."

"Maybe I should explain, the Hyde have attacked before and won, many many times". The shadow looked at the book, unsure if he should tell them. "This world is not the first version, I have had to reset the world numerous amounts of times".
Keyser frowned unsure what he was saying. "What do you mean"?
"I have the power to take things back in time so they may have another go if the failed on the try before, you two have battled the Hyde in the previous versions and failed, thus i had to reset once again".

"So... We've known eachother? Fought together, lived together... Died together?" Lisse sighed. "This is... troublant. I mean... if we couldn't win before, what makes you think we'll win now?"

"I doubt you will". The shadow answered bluntly. "This is the 1025th version of the world, and your 1025th try in defeating the Hyde."
Keyer's eyes widened, 1025, such a big number and yet he remembered hardly anything of it expect small flash-backs.

Lisse rubbed her temples, closing her eyes as she attempted to push the memories, the bits and pieces, away. "If.. If we can't... Thenw hy not jsut let the world die?"

"If the Hyde are victorious and their leader gains a second of power over this world then the entire universe is at his mercy". The shadow watched their reactions with curiosity. "Earth is, and has always been the center of the universe as we know it, linked via portals to every other planet, if they control earth they have direct contact with every other planet and every other dimension".

Lisse's jaw dropped. "Qui aurait cru?" she murmured, shaking her head. "Well, maybe you should pick new people if we keep failing...."

"You really aren't paying attention at all are you human girl". The shadow sighed, Keyser almost thought he rolled his eyes at her.

"Well, you should be able to pick new people, shouldn't you?" Lisse asked, frustrated. She stood, taking her pillow with her. "I mean, obviously we aren't good enough for the job! And I.. I don't want to do this!" She threw her pillow at the wall and then looked down, balling her hands into fists, her chest rising and falling at a fast pace.

"We've had this conversation before stupid girl, about a thousand times to be exact". The shadow got up and swooped behind her, hands pressing down on her small shoulders. "So let's skip this part and not pretend you haven't already decided to help, besides, you wouldn't want to leave Zack all alone".
Keyser twitched at the use of his first name, but he deicded it would be best to just leave it."I'll help".

Lisse was surprised by the weight of the shadow's hands, and she stumbled forward to get away from him. "What if I say no?" She whispered.

"You wont". The shadow said with a menacing tone, that suggested she wouldn't be questioning him if she knew the consequences od refusing.

Lisse's lips formed a thin line. "Well... I am now!" She stormed off towards her front door, and yanked it open.

The door slammed shut and locked, shut so hard it was like iron bars had suddenly come out of no where and blocked it on the other side.

Lisse let out a cry of frustration and muttered something under her breath in French as she slammed her fish onto the door, an angry side of her coming out that hadn't seem possible for her before. She turned slowly, and hissed, "D'accord".

The shadow just laughed at her, shacking his head. "Now sit both of you".

Lisse sat down in a chair, curling her legs up under her body. She scowled at Keyser, and then at the Shadow in turn.

Keyser gave her a look back, glaring just as hard.
The shadow began to speak."Now..you must tell no one about this..no one but others like yourselves..there are two other people in the city who possess the power like you".

Lisse listened, and said nothing.

"Read the book and it should explain, other than that try not to die". The shadow laughed loudly with the force of an oncoming jet. He then dissapeared.
Keyser looked down at the book, he opened it quickly, dust flying into his face making him cough.

Lisse snickered, rolling her eyes. "Well, this calls for some bubbly.." She mumbled, uncurling from her chair and moving to the kitchen, where she uncorked a bottle of expensive looking wine.

"Now thats the right idea". Keyser grinned and jumped up, walking over, tapping his fingers on the counter.

Using one hand she pulled down two champange glasses, and turned them around and poured liquid into the glasses, filling them nearly to the top. She held out a glass to Keyser, one eyesbrow raised. "Shall we toast to our impending doom?"

"Sounds good to me". Keyser clinked the glass with her and drank it quickly.

Lisse tossed her head back and gulped down the wine greedily, as if she very desperately needed it.

Keyser flopped down on the sofa, making himself at home and laying on his back, the wine glass in one hand. He smiled to himself as he drained the contents, enjoying the sharp taste of the wine. "I wonder how we'll die".

"I, for one, don't wish to die," Lisse mumbled in reply, pouring herself another glass. "And I certainly don't want to deal with this nonsense for the rest of all eternity.."

"it's not like we'd know about it, I mean we don't really remember the thousand or so times before, not like it's a bother or anything". Keyser held his glass out to be filled.

Lisse filled it, and then sank into the seat next to him, bottle and glass still in hand. "But..." She sighed. "I really do wish that I were normal," she murmured.

"Really..."? Keyser sipped his wine this time, his finger tapping on the stem of the glass slightly. "But, there's nothing worse than being normal". He took a long drink and turned the TV on, the news was on reporting an accident earlier involved with a bus crashing into a building. Keyser narrowed his eyes as he watched a mobile phone reocrding of the crash, obvious to him but not to others was the shadow that clawed through the side of the bus and caused it to flip onto it's side.

Lisse's jaw dropped. "Did you... Is that... Was that... Real?" She murmured.

"Looks like these Hyde bastards are getting to work". Keyser sighed and paused the news, he looked at the strange beast like creature, it looked big, and the claws, well, he deicded there and then he didn't want to meet one. "If THIS is what we're supposed to fight it's no wonder we're dieing so much..I mean fucking hell..".

"I guess we had better read that book and read it fast.." Lisse murmured.

"I hate books". Keyser growled and glared at it, he tried to flick the lock on the book and open it, however it wouldn't budge. "What"? He tried again, nothing.

Lisse sighed and muttered to herself as she pulled the book away from him and onto her lap. She let one hand rest lightly on the bindng, and the other rested with its fingers gently brushing against the lock. Lisse seemed deep in thought.

Keyser watched her think, he sighed and reached into his breast pocket, he took out his pack of cigarettes and slipped one out before poping it into his mouth. He then drew out his trusty zippo lighter."Want one"? He offered Lisse a fag.

Lisse quickly reached out and snatched the cigarette from his mouth. "No smoking in my house. Go outside." She tossed it to the ground, and stomped on it.

Keyser's face fell in an expression of extreme saddness as she stomped out the cigarette."DO...do you know how much these cost woman..geez". He stood up quickly and walked over to her balcony door. He opened it and walked out, lighting a new fag while feeling nostaligic about the dead one.

"Do you know how much my home costs?" Lisse snorted in reply as she let her fingers graze the lock. "I wonder how you open.."

Keyser leant against the window, staring at the night sky, listening to Lisse in the background. "Maybe you have to say a specific word". He was of course joking.

"Maybe?" Lisse replied, sighing. "I do have a crowbar..." She snorted. "If it was a word... What word would it be?"

"That damn shadow thing could have atleas told us how to open it...". Keyser bite the end of his fag, a tad annoyed by being brought into something so stupid. He leant against the window wondering."Is there anything written on the front cover..like..words or something". He came back in and stared at the book, the only thing he could see were strange markings down the spine.

Lisse moved the book so that they could look at the spine more easily. She chewed her lip in thought. "Well... You think we'd remember since we've done this before..."

"Maybe...". Keyser walked back inside after flicking the cigarette end off the balcony. He looked down at the book and tapped it with a long finger. "Jesus...wont you just like OPEN". He slammed his hands down, as he yelled open the book flung open, papers flicking around like there was a draft.

Lisse's jaw dropped, and she was silent for a good ten seconds before finally speaking. "That was... ficile."

"I bet that's supposed to be funny or something". Keyser looked at the pages, it was written in english strangely enough, he looked over the words, each page seemed to have a drawing of a strange creature and then a description of it's powers.

"I'm guessing that you're not a bog fan of reading.. And you'd probably slow me down," Lisse said, pulling the book in her lap. "I'll read it and fill you in, okay?"

"Yeah yeah whatever". Keyser leant back against the sofa, he blinked as his cellphone began to ring. He picked it out and flicked it open. "Speaking....hmm.....yeah....what...you kidding....no talking huh....". He nodded a few times. "Try a few shots in the knee-caps..usually works".

Lisse sighed loudly, and pointedly looked at Keyser.

Keyser hung up and put the phone away. "Yeah"? He looked right back at her in the same way before staring at the book.

"Just... can't you leave for a while? You're making me nervous," Lisse said as she settled into her seat. "Go out and do something. I'll be done with this by the time you're back."

"Alright..I'll fuck off...". Keyser looked around for a piece of paper, he saw some on the table that seemed to be a shopping list, he tore off the end and scribbeled something down on it. "That's my mobile number.....call me when you're finished or if you need anything..ciao". He flicked his hand in a wave like way and walked out the apartment.

Nephenee hummed lightly as she walked down the sidewalk, her tall, pointy heels clicking against the pavement as she moved. In one hand she held a copy of the fahsion magazine she worked for, and in the other she held Caribou coffee of some sort. Today she wore a pair of darkwash skinny jeans and a high-waisted black belt over a ruffled, amost Victorian styled white shirt that had short sleeves. She also wore a bead necklace with large, red beads, obviously made of glass. She chewed on her lip and she looked over the page she was currently viewing.

Lev walked down the same street just in the opposite direction, he was looked down at a map held in his hands, not looking where he was going, which was bad. But then he was lost. He looked up, but not soon enough, he walked straight into Nephenee knocking her coffee to the floor and sending them both tumbling onto the pavement, rather embarrassing since they were on a populated street.

"Fuck!" Nephenee swore as she landed on the ground, sighing loudly as she attempted to right herself. She heard laughs and saw people sneering. "What the fuck are you looking at?" She growled fiercly, and the spectators quickly walked away. She looked to the man who had run into her. "Well?"

Lev was picking up his stuff, mobile, wallet, map, he didn't even look up to register Nephenee, which made him look very rude and arrogant, but not on purpose of course. He just made and odd noise as his fingers went a little raw from grabbing at the pavement.

Nephenee sighed, and began to help him pick up. "So, what's your story?"

Lev looked as she did, he looked up and smiled at her and went back down to picking his stuff up, he also picked up her magazine and stood up. He held it out for her to take with a light expression on his face.

"Not much for talking, are you?" Nephenee muttered, taking the magazine. "Thanks though. Although you technically owe me another cup of coffee."

Lev tilted his head at her, trying to read her lips and see what she was talking about, he made out the word coffee, he looked down to see the spilled cup on the floor. It dawned on him, he nodded and looked around for a coffee shop.

Nephenee sighed loudly, and pointed to a large sign close by that was, put bluntly, a large cup of coffee. "There, if you're looking."

Lev looked at the sign, he then opened his wallet, he held out a few dollars for her to take to buy a cup of coffee with. He smiled politely while doing so.

"That's no way to treat a lady," Nephenee retorted, and she grabbed his free wrist and began to pull him towards the coffee shop, her magazine in her free hand. "Besides, I have all the money I want, and more. I don't just need the cash."

Lev had no clue what was going on now, he had gone from offering to rebuy her a coffee to suddenly being dragged towards said coffee shop. He looked at Nephenee, tilting his head at her, was she angry with him or something?

A slight smile played across Nephenee's face as she pulled him across the street, cars stopping for her (most likely because the men driving them were gawking) as she pulled him up to the door. She dragged him inside, and then dropped him at a table that was near the back of the quaint little cafe. "All right. Now you can buy me some coffee."

Lev looked at her, and then around, then back to her with a confused expression, he looked down sadly, feeling a little lost and confused. He swallowed hard and looked up at the list of coffee's, he pointed at the board gesturing up and down with his finger, as if implying which one she wanted.

Nephenee pouted her lips, and scowled. "Why aren't you talking to me?"

Lev furrowed his eyebrows, he looked around for something, anything, he spotted a napkin and grabbed it. He reached into his pocket and got out a pen, he began to write on the napkin. He then held it up, it read I'm sorry, I can't hear you.

Nephenee swiped the pen from his hand and scribbled in reply, And you didn't bother to try and communicate this to me sooner?

Lev read it and then responded. You're just a stranger, why would I tell you?

Because I've been trying to talk to you! Nephenee scribbled angrily in reply, sighing loudly and glowering at him.

Lev looked at her glaring at him, he scrunched up the napkin and gopt up to walk out, leaving the money on the table, he wasn't going to stay with such a rude girl.

Nephenee's expression changed to resemble a wounded puppy, a look that often worked to soften men up. She wasn't really a user, but she did enjoy being able to get people to go along with what she thought or with what she wanted.

Lev walked out of the coffee shop and sadly straight into another person, however this person was taller and knocked him back with more force. He rubbed his head and looked at the man he had just walked into, Keyser looked at him with a disgrunteled stare."What"?

Flick walked into the coffee shop, he brushed back a bit of black hair as he entered, looking around quickly like he always did when enetering a room, just to check everything seemed ok. He looked up at the board wondering what he should get tonight, maybe a latte, he had a long night ahead.

Fee leaned back in her seat, casually hanging one arm across the back of her chair.

Flick tapped one foot, he ordered a normal coffee in the end with two sugars, as he paid his eyes caught Fee, he eyed her for a moment whilst smiling, he then went back to his coffee.

Fee had noticed the man looking at her, but she was currently too moody to make a move. She sighed and stood, stretching like a cat before walking towards the door.

Flick got his coffee and walked after her, however his attention was drawn to two men outside. One yelling at the other, the other man didnt seem to registed what was going on at all. He wondered if he should interven and stop them.
Keyser was glaring and shouting at Lev."Dont ignore me..you cant jsut bump into me and say nothing you bastard".

Fee heard this as well, and she sighed as she headed over to the two men. "Hey, dickhead," she addressed Keyser, "he can't hear you."

Keyser turned to Fee, his eyes slanted for a second as he reached into his jacket. Flick knew that move straight away and reached into his own to get out a gun."I suggest you stop sir". Flick stared at Keyser who had his hand on the handle of his gun.
Lev looked between them both, he made an odd scared noise as he saw they both had guns.

Fee inwardly groaned. This was not something she dealt with. She was a fashion person for fuck's sakes! She crossed her arms over her chest and took a step backwards.

Keyser sighed, he wasn't in the mood for this, he held up his hands. "Nothings going on officer, I'm just..having an interesting day is all". He smiled fakly and began walking.
Flick watched him go and turned to Lev."Sir are you alright, was that man harassing you"?

"He can't hear you, he's deaf," Fee sighed, checking out her nails.

Flick looked at Lev and nodded, he held his hand up to apologise and just smiled. He nodded to Lev and walked over to Fee. "Are you alright mam,,did you know that man"? He took out his book, ready to take a name if be, he needed to report this.

"Pffttt, do I look like I'd know that man?" Fee replied, rolling her eyes. "I am way too high class for him."

"If you say so". Flick nearly laughed at this womans attitude, he just noted down the mans appearance and slipped the notebook back into his pocket."Have a safe trip home mam". He smiled and turned back to Lev, he nodded to him.

Fee sighed, and began to walk away, once again flipping through her magazine.

Lev stared at them, wondering what had just happened, he sighed, which came out like a weird noise, he walked after Fee, he didn't think she should be walking around alone. He tapped her gently on the shoulder.

Fee whirled around and thwacked Lev in the face with her face, her being on the paranoid side and always thinking that someone was out to get her.
