Kiss My Face Shampoo review

Normally, I am not that picky when it comes to body products. Well, sans lip products I suppose. Burt’s Bees products are just about the only moisturizer that I touch to my lips, but I suppose that I’m just not that discerning when it comes to my hair. However, my hair seems to be able to take a fairly decent beating, as I have dyed it more times than I could possibly count on both hands. I generally use the same brand over and over on my hair, though occasionally I like to switch up my hair products, and this generally happens when friends of mine pick me up bottles for me to try, claiming that I will absolutely love them!

The most recent bottle of shampoo that has come into my possession at no cost to me has been Whenever Shampoo, by Kiss My Face. I had never heard of Kiss My Face until my friend gifted me an eleven ounce bottle of it, promising me that I would write rave reviews after my first wash-and-rinse using the product.

I initially agreed with her, especially after discovering that Whenever Shampoo is gentle on hair, cleaning it thoroughly without drying hair out. As a woman who has dyed her hair countless times, that was something that I was really, honestly looking for in a shampoo. In addition to that, the shampoo was also apparently full of essential oils and all-natural herbs, as well as smelled great. And my friend was right, after my very first wash using Whenever Shampoo, I was pretty darned impressed.

Ingredients for Whenever Shampoo include Certified Organic Floral Water of Rosemary, Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Water, Infusion of Organic Herbs of Nettle, Olive Leaf, Calendula, Sage, Lavender, Certified Organic Aloe Vera, Olefin Sulfonate, Cocomidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Sea Salt, Caprylic Acid, Glycine, Lavender Oil, Green Tea Extract, Wheat Protein, Tocopherol, Lime Oil, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, and more! Additionally, this product contains no animal ingredients or artificial colors, nor does it contain unnecessary chemicals and was not tested on animals.

This product has a great scent. It is unique and refreshing, a natural aroma instead of anything too fragranced. The scent is supposed to be Green Tea & Lime, and I can't say it really has a green tea smell, but the lime is great and makes it great for men or women, and is refreshing in the shower! The scent isn't overwhelming, just a nice citrus type blend. Unfortunately I really can't smell it on my hair once my hair is dry.

This shampoo is much like a gel. It doesn't lather up even as much as some of my other natural shampoos. Sometimes I end up using more than I normally would with a shampoo just to feel like I get good coverage. I'm not saying a shampoo has to get tons of lather to actually work, but I feel like it isn't coating my hair quite well enough, and saturating those greasy roots of mine.

This shampoo rinses out easily enough without feeling like there is a residue left behind. However, I do sometimes feel like there is either some residue or lack of cleaning power in this product after my hair is dry. I used it on my hair for a while (several times a week) before I noticed that my hair felt like it had some kind of product in it. And yes, I do use a spray-in conditioner for blow-drying or using the flat-iron, but it wasn't from the conditioner. Perhaps repeated use allowed the conditioner or something else to build up on my hair.

I do agree that this shampoo is gentle, but perhaps too gentle. At some point it started leaving my hair noticeably limp, probably from residue. Perhaps for someone like me who doesn't necessarily wash their hair every day, it is best for in-between washings. It might be better/best for someone who truly washes their hair frequently (daily or more) and who doesn't use styling products. I don't dislike this product, because it is fine as long as I don't use it every time I wash my hair, but it also didn't do anything special for my hair either.

Pros: Great scent, not harsh, great ingredients

Cons: Price, not fully effective for me, doesn't lather well/give a feeling of good coverage

The Bottom Line: This shampoo is ok for average use, but I didn't feel like I could use it frequently as it left my hair kind of limp.
