2004-02-23 [Aristotle]: Actually, wushu is even more so a name for martial arts in general, since wu=martial, shu=art. I think there are about 1500 differrent styles of Kung Fu/Wushu. An instructor of mine once said he had found a "Chipmunk-styl
2004-02-23 [Black Blur]: hehehe Indeed! You are right, but I considered that the Wushu is a name used for form presentations with katas and combinated fights. It's not much known to be teached or practiced as a Martial Art anymore, but it was once (or can still be somewhere I don't know) realy the "name of the fight"
2004-03-03 [Black Blur]: You know, Aristotle?! Maybe I should realy consider it as the martial art and make only this obs. Thank you for commenting!

uhm.... actually no....
kung fu means something more like "a philosophy of life"... you can have good "kung fu" in pole vault..... or accounting.... it is only recently that all "western" references seem to point exclusively to martial arts.
wu shu actually MEANS "martial arts", however, since the "revolution" in china, practice of "martial arts" (and other cultural aspects) has been discouraged and punished. in time, the emergence of the "wu shu 'sport'", based on the martial art, has taken over the title of "wu shu", but while it has all the forms, it lacks the substance. if you practice it as a sport, it really never becomes a martial art, however, there are non-state supported schools and teachers who do teach a true wu shu. there are many of these outside china, most notably in australia, united states, netherlands and some in england.
these "martial arts classes" groups need some instructors and people who know some real and TRUE answers....
