Lesson Two: Interpersonal Communication

Interpersonal Communication is the communication between two or more persons. It is what most people think of first when they think of Communication.

Interpersonal Communication is also an important part of our everyday lives. We rely on our ability to communicate with other people from the day we are born until the day we die. Before we could talk we would cry and make faces in order to relay a message to the person charged with our care. That person would learn what the faces and crying meant, and in turn perform a task to fit the situation. When we learned how to talk we could use language as a form of communication. When we began school, our teachers began to teach us how to read and write so we would be able to communicate between others in that form. As with learning how to communicate our messages, we also learned how to listen to messages from others.

Everyone has a dominant type of Communicating. Some people are Visual, so they must be able to see something, or picture something to help them understand the message. Some people are Audio, so they understand better when you speak to them or use noise. Some people must be able to feel or touch(or imagine doing so) something in order to understand the message better. It is important to consider these aspects when you talk to people. Use descriptive words, and point at stuff when necessary in order to communicate your message effectively.
