Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin review

I never thought too much about keyboards until mine broke and I was forced to go out and buy a new one. Actually, I thought that all keyboards were pretty much the same; same color, same size, same shape, same keys. It wasn’t until I found myself lusting after the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting that I realized that keyboards could be more than a heavy, gray, plastic slab to type with. 

The Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting actually makes typing fun and, surprisingly, more comfortable than I have ever found it to be. Similar to the generic keyboard, the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting can either lay flat on one’s desk, or else may be propped up using the two plastic, retractable supports that can be found on the back, bottom portion of the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting. Personally, I find typing easier while typing with the keyboard propped up. However, this usually results in my wrists being sore from resting on the edge of my desk while typing. However, the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting solves this problem for me. Instead of my wrists resting painfully on the very edge of my computer desk while I’m working, the
Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting comes with a built-in, non-removable palm rest. This soft, cushy plastic is far more comfortable to rest one’s wrists and palms on than a hard, wooden desk is, and it has helped to keep my hands from being sore after long hours of typing; the support that I never had before has really made a difference in my fingers and wrists. I’ve never had a palm rest before, but I’ve known that they existed. However, ones that I tried out before always slid on the desk and didn’t really keep still while I was typing. The built-in palm rest on the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting is absolutely perfect for my needs!

Obviously, another feature of the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting that I find myself enjoying is the backlighting feature. The thin, black, Logitech Illuminated Keyboard is more than visible at night, as the faces of the keys are illuminated in such a way that allows users to see which keys they are tapping, but is not so bright that it distracts from one’s monitor screen. Each typescript is well-lit and has made working at night incredibly enjoyable for me; while my monitor screen is generally bright enough to somewhat illuminate my keyboard, the soft monitor lighting was never bright enough to allow me to see each of the keys individually, and lighting an entire room with overhead or lamp lighting always seemed impractical while working late hours on my computer. The backlighting feature on the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting is another perfect fit for me!

Since I junked my broken keyboard before I purchased the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting, I don’t have a good way to compare the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting to a generic keyboard as far as key placement and such goes. However, I’ve not noticed much of a difference in key placement on the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting. While some keys are considerably larger than others on this keyboard, I can’t find any keys that seem to be out of place. The letter keys’ sequence is perfectly in order as are the number keys. One thing that I have noticed while using the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting is that they keys seem to be easier to press down, that is to say, a lighter touch works just as well as a heavy one with this keyboard. While none of the keys on my old keyboard were sticky, they still took a heavy hand to press them down, especially the spacebar. I have no such problems with the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting.

So far, I have really enjoyed owning this keyboard. I never knew that backlighting could make such a big difference in owning a keyboard, nor that a proper palm rest could work such wonders on tender wrists and sore, cramping fingers. Additionally, the sleek design of the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Ultra Thin with Backlighting looks great matched with almost any style monitor and/or mouse. I definitely recommend this keyboard for all of those out there searching for something new.
