Max Allan Collins: After the Dark review

I waited this book enthusiastically, as I am a huge fan of the tv series and this is the final sequel Max Allan Collins has written (so far at least).
But it wasn't as good as the previous Skin Game.

The story continues from the same year than in the previous book, but the time has passed six months. So far it seems like that the transgenics and the ordinaries are starting to coexist in peace, and that the normal people start to accept the "Mutants" as a part of their society.

But in personal life of Max, things aren't great. Logan has a secret that Max can't stand. And things get even more complicated when Logan is kidnapped. Ames White is always lurking behind the corner and Max has to make decicions that affect both in her personal life and perhaps in the lives of everyone else.

First of all, I'm always more into reading how the tense situation between the normals and the transgenics is developing to a better coexistence. There wasn't much of that in this book. Secondly, the personal issues between Max and Logan and that secret that was so "big" - it wasn't that big. I thought Max overreacted and behaved like a stupid teenage girl, which she definitely isn't.
Thirdly, all the omens and prophecies that the tv series started to imply about Max being "the one", are revieled and frankly... what the heck? (not going to spoil it in here, though - read it yourselves)
Oh well, religious cults have very weird beliefs, so I guess we could forgive it.

But still, it could have used more realistic arguments and more plausible way of handling the prophecy. But, something was left untold, so perhaps there is another sequel and things get explained. Better.

If you're a fan, then it's a book for you. All the rest: you may pass this and don't miss a thing.
