Of the many characters from the “Harry Potter” series, Rubeus Hagrid is definitely one of my favorites. Truly a gentle giant, Hagrid is one of the first friends that Harry Potter makes in the Wizarding World, and unlike many other wizards, Harry does not judge Hagrid for his giant ancestry. Hagrid is actually featured in the series quite a bit for a peripheral character, and despite his many blunders, he is really quite harmless and loveable.

The Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure accurately portrays Hagrid, especially when it comes to the detailing in the paint job as well as the general sculpt. The size of the figure is also quite accurate when compared to other figures in this line; scale is rather important when it comes to creating a line of characters. Measuring in at just over nine-inches-tall, the Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure towers over the other figures in Neca’s seven-inch line of Harry Potter characters, which is really a great feature for play and/or display.

The Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure looks remarkably like the character from the “Harry Potter” series’ films. His clothing is accurate, more threadbare and patch-ridden than not, and the detail to texture is incredible. Every fold of the clothing is realistic and provides the figure’s clothing with actual depth. The Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure’s face is as full and ruddy as it is in the films as well, the eyes smile appropriately and the general effect is really quite good.

Accessories for the Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure include the lantern that he was featured with in the film, which is exceptionally detailed and actually does swing from his huge hand when held. The Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure also comes with the pink umbrella that he carries in the first book/movie. This umbrella carries the power of his wand, which was broken upon his expulsion from Hogwarts. Additionally, the Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure includes several sets of dead ferrets which may be strung around Hagrid’s neck or around his shoulders. Dead ferrets like these were fed to Buckbeak the Hippogriff in the third book/film. Other figures and accessories that are included with the Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure are Norbert, the baby dragon that Hagrid hatches from an egg, and Fang, Hagrid’s massive hound-dog that is more of a sissy than he is anything else! Each of these accessories is wonderfully detailed and is accurately lifelike in both sculpt quality and size.

The Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure also is something of a talking figure. By pressing a spot on the figure’s back, one may hear any of the following phrases; “Mad and hairy? You wouldn’t be talking about me, now would yeh?,” “Rubeus Hagrid, Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts,” Welcome, Harry, to Diagon Alley,” Strictly Speaking, I’m not allowed to do magic,” “You’re a wizard, Harry,” “Codswallup,” “ I’m on official Hogwarts business,” “ Never insult Albus Dumbledore in front of me,” “ I shouldn’t have said that. I should not have said that,” and “The trick with any beast is to know how to calm it.” So long as the battery within the toy is fresh, the sound emitted by the Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure is quite clear, though as the battery life wanes, the phrases begin to sound somewhat distorted and are a bit choppy coming out.

As far as articulation goes, the Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure isn’t excellent. As with other figures in this line, the Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure looks most natural and realistic when allowed to remain in the pose that the figure comes set in. However, the figure does have points of articulation at its neck, shoulders, wrists, waist and ankles, which allow for moderate pose-ability, though the figure may not look all that realistic in many of the poses that can be made.

I use my Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure more for display than for play, and as a collector of the figures in this series, I definitely recommend the Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure for all “Harry Potter” series collectors. While the articulation for the figure isn’t necessarily incredible, it is still decent enough to allow for moderate pose-ability. Additionally, this figure comes with a huge assortment of accessories that are all wonderfully detailed. The Neca Harry Potter Hagrid 9" Deluxe Figure is a perfect addition to any “Harry Potter” figure collection.
