Neil Gaiman: American gods review

I read this quite a while ago and decided it was worth of taking a second look.
Neil Gaiman has once again written a brilliant fantasy tale of a man named Shadow. Shadow has just got out of prison when he finds out of the death of his wife. Uncertain of his future he ends up working to a mysterious man who calls himself Mr. Wednesday. Little by little Shadow realises he's gotten himself inbetween upcoming battle of the old gods and the new gods and neither side is willing to back off.

I really enjoy Gaiman's narration. It's simple and complex at the same time. He needs only a couple of sentences to describe a character and the reader gets a total visualization. The plot works and the characters are interesting. Gaiman's gift is to combine all these mythical beings to a fantasy narrative that takes place - not in a lost world - but within our own world.

If you call yourself a fantasy fan, you need to read your Gaiman.
